| heh carriers I would have chosen goliaths over wraiths if you already had lots of factories as opposed to 1 starport, but I suck so don't listen to me. |

| First off, I hope I catched the jumbled way I was thinking the report. When the realization that carriers were on the way hit me, I was confuzzled to the nth degree. I first thought gollies, then I realized.. hell, he'll just park them over my cliff. So I needed marines to shoot the interceptors (and go attack his exp's later) and wraiths to assault the carriers directly. Oh well. Weird game anyways. |

Wow, interesting game. Man, this sounds very similar to the PvT BR's that I've been posting recently. The theory is that if he early expands, you should be able to crush him with a minimal tank push. The problem is that it's far too easy for Terran to get into a rut where they try to execute micro attacks (such as your gully siege), but lose sight of the big picture. Although your attack would have been very cost-effective (i.e. take out probes, Nexus, some other structures, at zero loss to you), it is costly because it distracts your attention from the grand scheme of things.
If I were him, I would have expanded to the islands too, since those are easier to defend and it's unlikely that you would spot them since you were showing heavy metal with emphasis on ground units.
But boy, that really sucks, how in the world did he have 3 stargates, a fleet becaon, AND an arbiter tribunal all up in mid game? That's just insane. It would make macro expanders like Whoop proud :-).
Yes goliaths would have been useful, especially if you were already working on ground upgrades. Unfortunately, I find that they tend to just delay the inevitable unless you can actually get into his base and force the carriers to engage your goliaths and other forces on open ground.

I'll probably do a regular BR later, but here's my timeline quickie:
7 mins: 2nd nexus started up @ 12
7:30m : nexus cancelled before scout SCV finds it
8:30m : 2nd nexus started, this time @ 3
9m : citadel of adun started (teching to HT)
9:30m : SCV scouts my main, sees adun
9:45m : nexus #3 @ 12
10:15m: templar archives started
12m : cannon/templar defense in main
13m : stargate started @main
14m : gully tank pooch started
15m : pylon grid for stargate support being installed at 12&3
16m : install 6 more stargates + 2 fleet beacons (12&3)
19m : 3 carriers pop out, greet 7 marines, 3 tanks @ 12
20m : lost observatory to tanks, no copy, observer production halted, rebuld it
21:30m: 3 carriers (2 more on way) destroy gas at Snow's natural, run from wraiths
23m : use lone scout to pick on floating ebay while i wait for new observatory
24m : start 5 more gateways at 3 to prep to fight mass marine counter
24:30m: storm squad attacking 6, lose nuttin
24:45m: send 6 carries with lots of observers to Snowy's nat, kill comsat, Snowy resigns. |

9.5 minutes before you scouted his main? Yikes! And with such a minimal force being seen at his choke/main why didn't you set up shop just outside his main?
Biggest problem I see is that you were too defensive to start with. I have the same problem when I play terran. Got to play it more in Heartcutter style. Attack, be aggresive, lose those marines/tanks by keeping the pressure on.
Your opponent basically got to expand for free because he didn't need to build any defensive/attack units.

| Imo, i've found dropships to be indispenisible in all terran games, especially in taking out expansions. Anyone agree? |

About scouting later. S.O.P with Heavy Metal is not to scout until your wallin is complete, and you scout with the last SCV to complete the 2nd depot or barracks there. That means you're not scouting until 15 or so, and considering I found him in the last starting spot, that's why it was so late. I knew he was toss though, and I'm going heavy metal nonetheless. Shoot me for not scouting with a vulture. Brain fart.
About the NWTR League -- you missed it! It was advertised the whole month of November over in Shockwave's forum (you know.. Shockwave.. that cool smiley :-) guy ) but it's started now. |

Ah yes, dropships. Another thing HC, JV & I were b*tching about. Slow, you need an addon to even construct them, and they're the only transport that costs gas. (yeah you have to upgrade it on the overlord, but then each one has it) I should've dropped one of his bases.. IF I could find a non-cannoned area. I swear it was like a BGH game. Then he had to be smart and not take any naturals so I couldn't turbo newbie.
Btw shock, the reason he probably didnt take the islands was a) he expanded long before he had shuttle tech, and b) I had a wraith sitting over them.
The good news is I played him again tonight and destroyed him. Too bad it wasn't the league game. :P
Here's a cute little trick I did on him when I went after his expansion. I was just forming it here, but I blocked his ramp with medics on hold position while my boys inside took care of business. Plus my reinforcements on the way (i.e. tanks + M&M's) ripped into his reinforcements from behind. Tasty. Also had 1 mine take out 3 zeals but I didn't catch that one.

Yes, I understand. I tend to still scout with my first depot builder is finished even when I go Heavy Metal. Too many toss see the heavy metal wallin go up and go immediately to being expansion whores. 8^)
I tend to keep patrolling with that first SCV too... the other mains on temple and his natural are all good places to keep an eye on. When my factory finishes then I'll pump out my first vulture and pull back 'Deon' to start working on my expansion while my vult takes over the scouting/recon business.
Sounds like a great game... we all make those mistakes. I find when I pay terran recon usually wins or loses me the game.

This is a perfect example of why recon is important. Also when you scouted and saw 1 zeal and templar archives you shoulda tried to bunker his silly ass in and pushed from there. This is another reason heavy metal isnt as good of an opening because you're limited as to your options early.
Gollys suck vs carriers btw. Carriers stack up so 6 fit in a small space. Gollys are big and clumsy. Your best bet is lots of marines killing the interceptors. Shoot down shuttles transporting reavers/templar before they can unload and you're in business. |

You always have to at least try a frontal assault.
I thought the entire point of heavy metal was to mine your opponents natural, and then scout.
You didn't even do heavy metal. |
