i hope you realize that blizzard cut out a lot of animation and features to make the stress test smaller to download. You should see an improvement in graphics and features when the game comes out.
And your character does reflect what you have. You didn't notice that your cap appears as it is as do your weapons?
And as for the storage... it's annoying, but it's intended to be that way. You're not supposed to be able to carry everything you have and you're not supposed to be able to keep everything you find. That's why they're even trying to get rid of "mules" or characters created just for the purpose of holding items. |

Blah is exactly right.
In order to make the stress test as small as possible of a download (So everybody that got accepted could actually play it) they cut out a LOT of stuff.
Animations (they took out the animation of you kicking barrels to make them explode)
Sounds (not as many sounds for ALL things, and especially people speaking in town)
animations on your charecters equipment (in the full version, each shield WILL appear differently according to its size, you WILL see yourself wearing different armor, i'm not sure about boots and gloves though [unlike the stress test where only swords/caps look different] )
basically, it's stupid to judge the game by the stress test.
Supposedly, the graphics are going to be 16 bit in the full version, instead of the 8 bit that they are in the stress.
Also, stop griping about the inventory system, it's realistic to not be able to recall your items from the stash in town, it wouldn't exactly make for fairness... and by the shots of your inventory, you were carrying around a lot of useless items, unless you're a weirdo. (fulminating potions? umm, ok)
I personally love the stress test in all catagories, even the inventory. Sound effects are amazing, if you turn off music and listen to the sound effects..
Listen rain at night, the lightning cackles, the raindrops pooring...
listen to the night with no rain. The owls hooting, the crickets cricketing..

Okay now to comment about the report: Nice report, very informative, etc.
I think I can explain the not hitting at all thing though... D2 is supposedly AD&D based *On a D2 add I saw it had that in huge letters across the top*... In D&D and AD&D you have a to hit roll *in games the computer does all the rolls for you*... You subtract that from your to hit. If the remaining number is better than their armor class you hit. If it is not, you just plain miss.(say you roll a 15, and your to-hit is 20, that number is five, say their armor class is 6, then you would hit. If their armor class was 4, you'd miss.)
That might confuse some people... In AD&D and D&D lower armor class is better. Worst AC=10, best AC=-10. It wont be that way in D2 though, because it is only LOOSELY based on AD&D... It might use THAC0 but I know almost nothing about that. (THAC0=To Hit Armor Class 0)

Totally OT, but AD&D RPG's rule. I absolutely love them. BG rocked the casbah, and so does Dungeon Hack, Unlimited Adventures.... I used to play those for friggin' hours... Speaking of RPG type games, I should get XCOM out again...

Um yeah it is ducky. I've seen the adds and talked to other people about it. Its not directly based on AD&D, then you'd see platemale with an AC of 0, and a longsword with a damage of 1d8, and really tough bosses would only have about 50-60 hit points. Its loosely based on AD&D. You cant see it because blizzard wanted to keep the game simple and easily understandable.

ummm phoenix, blizzard never said anything about that, fuck the magazines. they probably got confused because in the collectors edition, you get an AD&D version of Diablo 2, so they probably got retarded and figured D2 was just a graphical version of the AD&D thing.

Phoenix don't be retard. It's very remotely based on AD&D, but only because it uses the same sort of terms. That's about it.

i agree - battles in diablo were clean and logical, battles in d2 are a blur :)
the whole style game is blurrier... the old diablo was really gothic, u could only walk at a given speed, not run... it was all very strict
d2 looks way more vivid, there are wilderness areas and stuff, the floor isnt divided in "tiles" so strictly as in d1 - i mean it still is but u dont really see it any more
if i would compare the atmosphere of the games to movies i would say diablo 1 = the crow, diablo 2 = braveheart

That means it LOOSELY *albeit very loosely* uses AD&D rules, but does not have to be turned based. Its not a big enough thing that you'd ever really notice it in the game, as you said ducky, but it CAN affect some things. Like I explained with the armor class thing. It will change a few minor things but overall it doesnt make enough of a difference to stand out and be a MAJOR factor.
Probe was completely wrong about the AD&D based thing, Ducky, you were partially right. Its a little more like it than you probably think though. I personally think it would make the game rock if it was alot more AD&D like, but thats not going to come true.
And about how it is similar to the pen and paper game, ITS NOT! That was just an extra bonus. Except for it being loosely based on AD&D rules there are few similatities. BUT why would blizzard include something D&D if Diablo 2 had nothing at all to do with D&D/AD&D?
Diablo 2 is very loosely based on AD&D... Well the AD&D rules. Its not in an AD&D Campaign Setting nor does it use all of the AD&D rules exactally, but what I was saying this whole freaking time was that it is loosely based. =/
God I must sound like a rambling idiot by now. But I read that thing and was just trying to help him understand why he might not even get hit when he has a high enough armor class, and it turned into a huge argument 8(
Oh yeah... In the pen&paper D2 game, the necro is no good =/ I know that is probably different in the real game but in the Pen & Paper its alot different. Start with an amazon, their armor class bonuses rule. With a regular suit of chain mail my armor class is -5, and I'm almost impossible to hit. And sorc fball kicks ass, barb is awsome melee fighter, paladins auras are awsome, etc.
Anyway the D2 collectors edition is woth the extra $10 just for pen & paper RPG that comes with it. A hint though, do your inventory on a seperate sheet of notebook paper, it will make it a LOT easier on you. Also add up your experience on that sheet, that will aslo make things easier on you. |

oh yeah and this report was ok, kinda nice cuz im wating impatiently for d2, but a lot of the bad stuff u mentioned was just because they wanted to make the stress test smaller. i think the final release is gonna be 4 cds === about 2.5 gigs
so anyhow the game is gonna rock and wc3 will too but i dunno from what ive seen wc3 interface looks kinda confusing but mebe that me and o yeah i was #3 on wc2 igl so muhahahha i own you all ok bye now |
