That was a comp game? Hmmm, I didn't know comps sent probes to scout another comp. If this was, as you say, comps, then why did you waste the time to actually sit through a comp game, and waste your time to actually report it?

You obviously have some talent with doing battle reports. Why not try a real game, but then of course, you and I_am_Gen_Patton like to do fake games, so I can see where it comes from.

But anyway, I would say that you have some talent, but to waste it in this way, is so much a shame.

Grrr...
It's hard to find a game where people will actually let you br...and if you create a game that you will br in, people won't play...can't help that.
That and I'm a stupid newbie that tried 3812974190741097 to get into "nohunters" but ended up in creating 3812974190741097 different channels with 3812974190741097 different variants on the name "nohunters."
My guess is that the Probes and SCVs were sent out to expand, but were destroyed by expansion defense...
The two comps were good for comps...you have to give me that...and if you're a newbie watching those comps...just makes them seem all the more gosu-er.

Ahh I see. BTW it wasn't an insult about you and I_am_gen_patton. It did sound like one, but with his reports he has done, and with you being in his latest, it just looked like you two are freinds. So I kinda thought maybe he and you were just doing this as a way to make fun of the readers and/or the site. So I was just trying to understand why you would do this. I agree finding good players is hard to do, but still, reporting a one sided game between 2 human players instead of 2 comps would have been better. Although I hate one-sided games almost as much, but still.

It was well written though for a comp game. The only reason I knew it so early was because you said you would name the players at the end, so I went to the end first before continuing the report.

I just can't beleive that you would have wasted your time to report a comp game.

Hi, whatever-your-real-name-is.

>Some of you may know Rommel from World War II. Let me assure
>you that he was NOT a Nazi, and I am NOT a Nazi. Rommel did
>not support the Nazi regime; he was fighting the war for
>Germany, not Hitler. He may have been close to Hitler, but
>in terms of politics, Rommel made sure that he didn't make
>any waves. My name is meant to show my admiration for him,
>not that I have the skills and genius that he had.

Being from Germany, I cannot let this pass without comment.
You might be right about Rommel not being member of the
NSDAP (the Nazi party) - most of the Wehrmacht (Germany army)
were not members. But nevertheless, they followed the
orders of Hitler, committing crimes of unconcievable
brutality. However, the most unforgivable crime they (and
most Germans) committed during the Nazi time, was 'making
sure not to make any waves'. Not fighting something that
you know is wrong and closing your eyes before atrocities
committed against countless innocents, is what made the
Nazi regime possible. In that sense, Rommel was as
admirable as any other German of that time, like e.g., a
KZ guard (concentration camp guard). If I recall correctly,
Rommel continued to fight in Africa even after Germany
had officially surrender, causing many more to die when
they could have been saved.

And, as a sidenote, all soldiers of the Wehrmacht vowed
to server *Hitler* not Germany. (Maybe digging more into
history would be even less pathetic than br'ing - and
could help you avoid comments from offended Asians and
Germans.)

So, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're a Nazi, but
I do suggest that you have a closer look the next time
you state things about 'German heroes' and 'shooting
chinese peoples'.

Cheers,

Chris

PS: I found the pictures of your BR pretty neat.

Okay, you probably won't remember my name since Moltke was from the Franco-Prussian war, but here's my 2 cents:

Germany officially surrendered on May 7 1945. Axis forces in North Africa were wiped out in mid 1943.
Rommel was not a member, and was renowned for lenient treatment of his Prisoners of War. Rommel supported the NSDAP and did his duty to his nation. Rommel was very popular not only in Germany but also in Great Britain, which lacking generals of Rommel's caliber, began idolizing Rommel. The army did take an oath of allegence to Hitler, but if you lived in Germany during that time, im sure you would too.

Scroll up a few comments.

...Rommel fought even after Germany surrendered?

Rommel committed suicide, in 1944...fearing that Hitler would brutally torture and kill him, because of his connection to the Stauffenberg bomb plot, a plot to kill Hitler. The only reason that war lasted another year, was because the bomb was moved prior to its detonation, and Hitler ended up with barely a scratch.

I can't withdraw that last statement, even though I'm regretting it now for various reasons; it wasn't meant to offend, it was meant to be a shot at humor (failed miserably -- jackasslike humor comes to me more easily, probably because I am a jackass). I'm Asian; my friends and are always cracking racist jokes and laughing with each other over them. I'm sorry for getting too personal in that respect.

Also, about the German army -- the earlier Chiefs of Staff (esp. Seeckt) took great pains to make the Army and the State (the Nazi Party) as separate as possible. The Germany army was fighting for Germany, not Hitler, though the officer corps did take that vow of loyalty to him; many, if not all, of the officers had no interest in politics, and simply wanted to serve their country. Of course, later in the war, Hitler had quite a few Nazi-supporting generals and field-marshals replace his best commanders because he was paranoid and losing faith in all of the original generals. Rommel had a sort of faith in Hitler earlier in the war (and before; he had, after all, restored patriotism and pride in the German people), but by 1943, he had lost faith in the Fuhrer and stated in no uncertain terms to close members of his staff of what he thought of Hitler at the time. Rommel was a patriot of Germany. He fought only for the people and his men.
The SS and SD were the arm of the NSDAP -- they were the ones that carried out the Holocaust and the executions in the Eastern Front. The "regular" Germany army were led by generals who tolerated no belligerence or cruelty to the civilian populace and prisoners of war.
As for turning a blind eye to the Nazi cause, the Allies were no better. The US allied with the Soviet Union, knowing full well the atrocities commited by the USSR and supported them in the war (they also slaughtered Jews and Gypsies), and also allowing them to claim blocks of land in Eastern Europe.

---

I've always been fascinated with WWII. My Grandfather fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and lost a good number of friends. He got his honorable discharge two months before they shipped the rest of his unit out to Korea. Almost all of his friends who were going career military were killed. He has two Iron Crosses that he took from German soldiers when they liberated one of the Concentration Camps.

My Great Uncle was a field medic in the Pacific Theatre. He took two (I think) sniper rounds, and has two Purple Hearts of Valor. And my Cousin's Grandfather was on Utah Beach on D-Day. He made it, but took a round in the leg the next day and got shipped home.

I guess it's just so deeply rooted in my family's history. My father is equally obsessed. You should see the number of books in his personal library, he has an entire bookshelf just for himself. But I'm getting off-topic.

---

The report was pretty well-written. The pictures were nice, but I'd suggest resizing them, and using a single color scheme for the entire report. The borders around the first few pictures kind of detract from the overall appearance of the report. Also, try real players =].

At any rate, nice job, a solid 7/8.

Aside from the history lessons and the confusion about the comps i offer these thoughts in the hope that i will infact enlighten someone.

1) A computer will never scout with a peon. It always sends troops in because it can see you no matter what. I believe you and another friend played the game and set up some very nice shots and that this BR is a very well choreographed fight scene.

2) I too am asian and I can understand all types of humor. My friends and myself always joke in an offesive way to each other and we know its all in good fun. The readers of Battlereports.com are not your close personal friends and will not respond to your humor. I understand it was a mistake and you need only to use better judgment in your reports.

3) No matter what his ties to Germany and Hitler, he fought for a side that caused enough pain and suffering an eternity. Remeber it takes only good men to do nothing and Rommel did nothing. He was following orders that he knew were wrong and he sat silent during the plans for the final solution. 1941-1945. He acted too little too late and he is as guilty as anyone. Admire him for his genius but not for his character.

A wise man once said..."When in a room of gun powder it takes only takes one match to fuck you over, but one drop of water to save you"

Actually, going back to the earlier statement, Rommel became a suspect in the July assassination plot. He was given a choice of commiting suicide or standing trial. If he commited suicide his family would be reparated, and he would be given a state funeral. Rommel chose suicide by poison. Just before he died, Rommel wrote a letter to his wife telling her everything that is about to happen.

>He was following orders that he knew were wrong.

Why did many US soldiers not refuse to fight in Vietnam, although they "knew" it was wrong?
Why did Russian soldiers not refuse to fight in Afghanistan and Chechnia although they "knew" it was wrong?

Maybe this is not as simple as that. The regular army was not well informed about the Holocaust because it was kept a secret. This is why the Concentration Camps were mostly located outside of Germany.
The Wehrmacht and parts of the armed SS forces are not to be compared to the regular SS and SD. The Nuremberg trial made clear that the Wehrmacht was no criminal organisation. Surely, Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS soldiers have been involved into warcrimes, but as well have been Russian troops, American forces and almost any army that ever fought in a war. If you don´t believe, I´m willing to tell you some examples.
The point is that the regular army was not to be blamed for the Holocaust (at least if you think that not all Germans in general are responsible for it - i hope you do). Please keep that in mind because this is what the Allies said out after the war. As a matter of consequence, the High command of the German Army is not to be blamed to be responsible for the extinction camps without further investigation.
Rommel was never directly involved into atrocities in the way that he allowed them or ordered them to be done. Being a member of an Army that attacks another country without cause was - until 1946 - not considered to be a crime. Just remember that the US Army invaded Mexico to conquer what is now New Mexico. The same with Texas and Hawaii.
Finally, Rommel chose to betray his Fuhrer although this was almost unthinkable in a society that educated people to obedience and militarism for almost a century.
The question I have is: If you had been a German soldier, if you had seen that there is a war that decides the fate of your people, if you were full of all this propaganda and fear - how would you have acted?
Maybe this question is not so abstract. Just ask it to yourselves when next time the USA calles to arms against Iraq just to protect their Oil support.

#22 It is not true that Rommel hold on fighting after the surrender of Germany.
I think you messed this up with Colonel von Lettow-Vorbeck who kept on fighting in Tansania after WWI ended. He did this only because he did not know that the war was over.
Admiral Dönitz continued the war after Hitler´s suicide for about one week. He ordered his troops at the Western front to capitulate, while the Eastern front was still fighting. This way, he saved millions of German refugees, who would have been murdered by the Soviet army else. Although, he rescued about 1/2 of the German Eastern front soldiers of soviet captivity.
Why? From 91.000 Stalingrad survivors of the Wehrmacht that were in Russian captivity, 6.000 returned.

I am not deniying any crimes of the Nazi government, but still, one must be very accurate in his judging of any man, regardless, if he is german or not.
#43 FM_Moltke[73252]
206.248.114.254
It would be impossible to accuse the German people of these so-called "crimes" without condemning humanity as a whole. If you think the National Socialist party was criminal, everyone in the world who thrives on ambition and power must be considered evil as well. If I were a German living during that period, i would have gladly served my country to expell those evil Bolshelvik invaders.

Germany knew no such thing that killing Jews was wrong. In such a culture, killing of Jews was like killing cattle. It was the belief of the nation that it was right. As long as the nation believed such, they were right in doing so from their own point of view.

I find this to be quite a big generalization, one of the most wrong I ever heard. That times idiology told that Jews are below all the other races, but Its wrong to assume that the average german (not SS, just a normal citicen) would have concured with genocide.

I am from germany myself and I know very well that WWII will be what we will be remebered for in world history. We deserve that, this dark time should never be forgotton. But its also a fact that most people at that time had no idea what was happening, propaganda enshured that no disturbing facts were turned to eneral knowledge. As for Rommel...he was one of the few men in WWII on german side we can be proud of. He was a military genius and as human as one can get in a war.

Germany was not aware of the full degree of persecution of Jews during the war. Germany simply believed that Jews were subhuman, whether they concured with genocide was in doubt, but i would have no doubt that most would agree with anti-jewish policies.

As for your definition of "wrong", i dont know what that is, but looking through the history books, the wrong is just a synonym for the losers. (of the war)

FM_Moltke:

Don't start that moral relativism garbage. The fact that someone is "right" from their own point of view is not only worthless in a philosophical argument, it's also a very slippery slope. If you want to argue that because Germans thought whatever Hitler did was "right from their point of view", that it somehow lessens the burden of guilt, that's your right. (I wouldn't have trusted Hitler to grant you this right...) However, in doing so you pretty much lose the right to complain about anyone's morals, or to place guilt for other's actions. If someone murders your family in their sleep, would you let them walk away because they judged it the right thing to do?

I think this was a great BR, even if it WAS comp vs. comp. Sometimes it's fun to watch comps beat the living shit out of each other. Like, during this game.

I would just like to point out that the defending troops in the battle of Stalingrad held out, and forces the Nazi's to a stand still. So in effect you used a bad analogy.

"Water is easily manipulable and conforming, but for breaking that which is strong nothing surpases it.

Still I want to point out that the majority of the German soldiers did not consider it wrong to do what they did. Persecution of Jews and World War II are two things that relate but they are not the same. The "average" soldier did not know of concentration camps and the camps were guarded by the Totenkopf (Skull-) SS, which was not commanded by the army but by Hitler himself.

The German army did not commit any more or less warcrimes than the US army or the British or French army (in relation to their participation in the War).

Jew persecution is a different topic.

and even in the persicution of Jews it was similar to the US treatment of their Japanese minority. There was no way USA could have come out of that way claiming moral superiority over Germany.

Although FM_Moltke is somewhat overweighting the US treatment of Japanese minority let´s say this: Americans are responsible for the extinction of 50 million Indinas. I know it´s a while back but still...
Germans are e.g. responsible for murdering the population of Jerusalem during the first crusade. This can go on forever. I am sure, none of you has killed Native American, as well as I have killed no Jew. Moral superiority is a question of individual persons not of nations. Still, the bible sais: "You shall not judge, for you will be judged."

I don't care about anything anyone tries to say as an exscuse for the Germans. There is no exscuse for killing innocent people no matter what there beliefs
