Report starts now-

It all started innocently enough. Random night of lurking in the channel Nohunters, talking to the 2 members not currently AFK. Then the challenge for FFA begins. 5 people, 4 of whom want to obs. One of these must continue to play. There is only one option.

SCV RUSH!

Map: Big Game Hunters
Players(All Terran):
Shadow D'Arc: Brown, Top Left (Shadow)
~Status_28~: Orange, Bottom Left (Stat)
Aer0: White, Bottom Middle
Twip-: Blue, Bottom Right (Twip)
TelferProject: Red, Right Middle (Telf)

Stat and Aer0 both started by lifting their Command Centers and tucking all 4 of their SCVs into their respective corners. Shadow and Telf, on the other hand, start their next SCVs and send the first 4 across the map to scout(Kill) any opposing nose-pickers.

These brave, loyal, powerful SCVs meet up at the top right natural, those with brown colors in a long line, the crimson in an L formation surrounding them. Shadow's SCVs attack the tip of the L, but allow the other 3 to take potshots at the front of their line. There are no losses however as the reds retreat, one SCV with 15 HP left, another with 45, and the other two unharmed. Had they pressed for but an instant, they would have finished off the only damaged member of the brown company, who happened to have only 5 HP.

Shadow presses the attack as Twip begins construction of a supply depot just before his 9th SCV begins production. The lightly damaged scarlet SCV gets surrounded and killed, with the other members of the company capable of bringing an undamaged brown to half strength. This weakened warrior is finally able to reach the critical SCV, bringing about his final destruction.

The remaining two members of the communist scouting party retreat back to base, the radical brown soldiers close behind. Shadow's SCVs begin repairing each other as they begin to eliminate the survivors of the previous battle, along with 2 of Telf's reinforcement SCVs. A single SCV dies, but the rest continue the attack. One more falls before they are able to eliminate all maroon soldiers and force him to retreat. The Command center lifts off at exactly 2 minutes.

Twip scouts with the 9th SCV and begins a barracks and refinery at 10/11 supply, respectively.

Recap time:
2:30 into the game.
Shadow: 2 SCVs on minerals, 2 survivors scouting for anyone else, and one more in production.
Stat and Aer0 still have 4 SCVs each, but are doing nothing with a paper cup/string telephone slung between their command centers, floating above the bottom left cliff.

Telf has no SCVs, a barely harmed Command Center, and 26 minerals. Needless to say, he's out.

Twip has 9 SCVs on minerals, 2 on gas, one at his choke, one scout, and one in production.

Shadow's scouts reach Twip's choke 5 seconds later, and begin attacking the blue SCV at the choke. It retreats with 10 HP left, the brown SCVs go back and forth between attacking the depot and the blinking barracks, when 3 fresh Twippian peons run towards the pair. They run like pansies as the barracks stops blinking, and they start taking damage.

Twip begins production of a second depot to finish the wall, along with a factory and his second main refinery. Shadow finally gets off his ass and builds a depot with 9 SCVs moving about the map and a 10th in production.

Once Twip's factory completes, he begins a star port and then a second factory as resources allow, but destroys it at about half complete and builds a second star port over the ruins, and a science facility at 21 supply (only 1 of which is an actual combat unit). Covert Ops soon follows.

5:30 recap:
Shadow has 12 SCVs, 2 in production, a command center, a supply depot, and a barracks just beginning.
Twip has 22 SCVs. 1 marine, the CC, 3 supply depots, one barracks, one factory, 2 starports, a Science Facility with CovOps in production, and an Academy just beginning.

Twip begins construction of twin wraiths and the necessary ghost upgrades, including a nuclear silo, as Shadow begins his second barracks. At about 8 minutes into the game, Twip's wraiths, now a total of 3, attempt to attack Shadow's mineral line, but without cloak, 6 marines push them back, one wraith destroyed.

The next move belongs to Shadow. 8 marines head southeast, to engage anything blue. Their first target is the supply depot that the two SCVs attacked at the beginning. They drop it to 200 HP before 3 vultures engage them. Two marines become little puddles of blood as the depot goes boom. The vultures soon eliminate the rest. A long period of quiet ensues as both parties build their armies. During this time, Stat leaves the game.

At 11:30, Twip heads out with 7 wraiths and a pair of ghosts in a drop ship. He sends them north, then west, into the not-quite-ready arms of an incomplete star port and armory. The wraiths destroy the turrets that would screw with the ghosts' mission. The mission: Double nuke the Command Center. The ghosts start right above the star port and 2 comsats fail to spot them in time. End result? Mass destruction with maybe 4 Brown SCVs survive with no command center, no comsat, and burning refineries. The wraiths then attack to southern part of the base, namely, the supply depots. Hastily placed turrets fight them off, but all but one SCV lost their lives attempting to rebuild.

At 14:30, reconstruction barely started, Shadow sends 7 vultures to attack Twip's wall-in. They drop 80 HP off the center supply depot, but are beaten back by a tank out of their range. 11 marines move to reinforce the "Containment." The 5 remaining vultures attack again, but are beat down by a second tank. 4 wounded vultures, one with only 2 HP are all that remains of their once mighty and glorious (Yeah right) army. On an unrelated note, one of Twip's wraiths found the hiding command centers of the three failed commanders and began to attack Stat's command center. After it dies, the others flee to the north.

The next attempt comes from Shadow: rax float from the left side of Twip's main. As this is happening, a single brown wraith runs around the map looking for any expansions. The funny part is that there is a large pack of enemy wraiths close behind, but never able to actually see him. Once the finishes the barracks, it is able to hide in the corner of Twip's main, undetected.

The blue pack of wraiths turns and heads for the 'containment' force at the natural, which now included a whole two medics. The rines stim, fire at the wraiths, then they cloak. The comsat comes just as the last marine dies to tank fire. End result? No containment force. Many of the wraiths suffered slight damage (One down to 12 HP), and went in to the base for repairs, but got a little too close to the barracks, and while detected, Twip decided to ignore it for the moment.

20 Minute Recap:
Shadow-Few soldiers remaining, mostly goliaths. 3 marines and a barracks attempting to hide in the corner of Twip's main.

Twip-Large army mostly consisting of ghosts, vultures, and a few tanks, with poor macro for the moment (Almost 4K/2K in the bank), but it wasn't much of a problem.

Less than a minute later, Twip's ghost army attacks the marines surrounding the barracks; it attempts to retreat while the SCV who produced it begins making several turrets along side the main. However, the mass of wraiths heads down and quickly eliminates any threat of marines from said barracks. Shadow's next act is to take ~10 goliaths and park them outside Twip's natural, acting as another containment force. This does little more than inform him of the next move. 10 wraiths and 6 drop ships move out, directly towards Shadow's main. After taking down a single drop ship, the goliaths retreat to base in a futile attempt to defend it once more.

Twip's entire force drops directly into Shadow's weak mineral line, which quickly suffered mass destruction. Poor building placement and even poorer (Is that even a word?) Goliath AI prevented them from receiving help from the main part of the army. Four factories, a burning barracks (which returns because it was going to die soon anyway), a science facility, an E-Bay, and two SCVs (only because they weren't at the base) survived the attack. The SCVs attempted to rebuild in the bottom center main, but were found by a scouting wraith. Two nukes later, and the rest is cleanup. GG Twip.

Scores are obvious (Twip got about 2.5 times me)

Lessons learned:
Don't win an SCV rush if you are trying to obs.
Don't waste time with goliaths unless your opponent is going all air.
Repairing SCVs when attacking will give you an edge.

Even though I lost this matchup, it brought a strange desire to the pit of my stomach. Newbies, strange creatures, especially considering how old the great Starcraft has become. Shared base... I know I shouldn't, but, I can't help myself. Newbies are such easy prey...Stay tuned for part 2!
