1) I need to get over the fact that Mutas aren't weak, just hard to manage
2) I'm prolly gonna get to play again in about a week. WAHOO!
3) DSL is coming within the month, 90% chance...
4) I still need a job, a car, and a girlfriend... :-/
5) I use ellipsises (ellipsi?) too often...
6) My macro falls apart mid to late game... what IS my problem?

You know ADQ3, your forces could have easily beat some mutas. I mean, you had and ARCHON. An archon, facing only mutas, can kill even large groups easily.

I remember one game facing a muta rusher in an FFA on temple. He tried to expand upper left island when I was at 3:00. I sent one shuttle with two archons. He had so many mutas, the shuttle died in two seconds. Luckily, that was one second per archon. The entire base and force was razed with no losses.

Wow ADQ3!! You are a machine, pumping out these BR. I enjoy reading your reports as you climb up the ladder.

Two archons are a LOT better than one archon is because of the splash praetor. One archon will die to ten mutas. Especially if they are microed and spread out a little.
#9 Persian-POW (proxy2-external.rdc1.az.home.com)[13681]
Hmm..
Why 6? I think it deserves gold, but I'm not a rater.
#10 Persian-POW (proxy2-external.rdc1.az.home.com)[13682]
See, I'm very influential here at BR.com I say it should be gold and 2 seconds later it's gold.
#11 TheRubberDucky (dfiatx100-044.dsl.gtei.net)[13686]
pers I gave it an 8

Early mutas aren't a big huge deal, but they CAN burn you if you don't know they're coming. If you do know they're coming make at least 2 cannons that cover each other and your probes. However these won't kill mutas by themselves. So you also should make some dragoons, but the best way to handle them is with archons. If it's an early muta rush you probably won't have storm yet or at most just one storm. And it's easy to misfire that storm. However you can make archons pretty easily. If it's a super fast muta rush then you probably won't have archons yet, however you should have dragoons and cannons and that will hold off the 6 or so mutas that the super fast muta rush attacks with.

That's the thing, if you don't know it is coming. That is why if I cannot scout out a zerg because of choke, i alawys get corsair. 1 corsair to scout out 1st and if I see a weaknes, I will get more. I think toss should get into the habit of using corsair for recon when the choke is blocked.

Observers, imo, isn't that ghreat vs zerg because OLs can mean his base is tough to get into while corasir is fast and can sneak in and get out fast. In most games when you lose, the real reason is because of a lack of recon and everyone should aim to have recon as their first prority and a lot of the times recon is even more improtant than expanding.

Nice report! I give it a 7.

#15 Blank (204.hartford-05rs.ct.dial-access.att.net)[13715]
err, nifty report=]

Probably a stupid question, but did the zerg player 2 hatch or 3 hatch? He didn't micro his zerglings very well either, I mean, he couldn't take two seconds to kill a freakin' probe? Oh well, my zerg sucks ;-0

#16 Papa'Smurf (ts5-10.amery.spacestar.net)[13719]
Damn you, 1 point over me. Gonna have to go back to ladder...
#17 T_Mac (ts7-54t-8.idirect.com)[13725]
Damn you both aqd and fiz, 1200's too good for me
#18 AQD3[13728]
He never had more than 2 hatches, but he had two hatches in his base when I killed it. Most players don't realize what a probe does to a zergling vrs zealot battle and won't make killing it a priority.
#19 Fractal_Wave (24.64.215.34.bc.wave.home.com)[13744]
Verra nice laddie, verra nice indeed....

(pardon the accent:)

In my experience, the way to remove early muties is w/ templar. Either storm or archons. Add a few cannons around that mineral line so he has to think twice about attacking. Only thing you need to be careful of is storming your own probes. Sairs work well too, but that's a different part of the tech tree...

But then, my toss is horrrible. So don't listen to me
;)

All the best,
Fractal_Wave

One of my favorite strats against zergs is pure zealots / corsair, with heavy upgrading. Zealots do nice against zlings if you out upgrade them, and with speed upgrade they handle small groups of hydras as well. Make corsairs until you have about 6 or so, and when they find out you have them they will probably forget mutas and switch to hydras. Now ya gotta get some goons and templar. Most important thing is to keep the upgrades coming. 2 forges minimum. From what I've found many zergs don't bother to upgrade, which is very bad. Out upgrade, and out expand them =)
#21 StimmedCorsair (sdn-ar-003kylexiP020.dialsprint.net)[13755]
Another thing I forgot to mention, if a super early muta rush hits, you will usually have 1, maybe 2 corsairs and 2 cannons or so. This will hold 6 mutas easy. A key thing when using corsairs is to make sure you attack when their mutas are clumped. If they spread out, run away and when they give chase they clump again.
#22 YourRoleModel (1Cust175.tnt3.greensburg.pa.da.uu.net)[13764]
Hmm... You were in Korea? Do you have family to visit there, on vacation, what? Other than starcraft or being there under obligation, I can't imagine Korea is a hot vacation spot, but what do I know?

Good report as always.

#23 [FLS]prozerran (HNW0511.RESNET-STUDENT.UPENN.EDU)[13775]
StimmedCorsair,

What if he went hydras instead?
#24 GoofBall <font color=red><i>"YRM's RoleModel"</i></font><font color=333333> (wal[13858]
Corsairs are nice, but I would <i>never</i> rely on them for anything other than backup. They're way too specialized.
#25 Phelsior (ti01a69-0064.dialup.online.no)[13869]
Hannibal?

You still alive, man?
I've missed your posts since the Foxhole "died"

Great post as always, AQD3 ...

1 archon with shield battery > 6 mutas
2 archon with shield battery > 12 mutas

archons > mutas

Nice report
