Hey!
I love the idea about audio/replay reports.
Because i beleave that is the best way to learn
about the game. I like replay over battle reports
any time. The audio ceomments just makes them more great and
learning experience. Just make sure, your comments are correct. I mean comments about strategies and tacticts. You
dont want to missled ppl to learn wrong things. Learning is
the only reason i watch replays.
Anyway great job and keep them coming, but there is a little problem to shynchronize the replay and i dont
know if it can be fixed. I think that the speed of the replay depends on the processor speed and system optimization. Maybe your 4x isnt the same 4x speed than on
other's computers. I have Pentium 1000 and replay is always faster then your audio. if i put on 2x it is too slow.
So, do you have any solutions about this?
Take care, Jack Gates

Ok, one more thing not really that important, but
none the less. That report you are mentioning
Bihua vs Uknown or [9]Maynard vs [9]Villert.
I think that isn really Maynard. Because on
gosu.scnation they say it [aLt]Nirvana, the best player
from Singapore. Damn, damn, that terran is awesome.
They say Maynard is God of starcraft. And if that wasnt
Maynard, i mean how good can he be? Cuz i never saw
a better player in all my life. That means if [aLt]Nirvana
si so great, i cant even imagine how great real Maynard must be, if he is refferd as God of SC.

Well, if you're trying to weasel your way into this community, the least you can do is to take the hacks of the page you plugged in your first three replays you fucking lamer.
Why not wait until 1.08 actually comes out? I sure as hell am not going to use an unsupported patch.

Hm, I've got nothing against your style of reporting, Jack (er.. can I call you Jack?), but I do have a bone to pick.
That would be the distributing of map hacks on your website. I'd strongly advise that you remove them, or you won't last long in this community. Hacking is most definitly not supported here, and you've already got quite a fan club built up.
Hopefully, Blizzard will release 1.08 sometime soon (before I die would be nice! Sheesh!), and then a replay section will go up. |

| You know Jack, I'm no expert here, but maybe you should give up with these replays. I saw some of your earlier work and it got a few good scores. Nobody seems to like these replays and the fact you post hack tips is not really a great addition to your credit. Maybe if you had not said that "traditional reports" had no vaule and that these replays of yours are the way of the future, people would be less inclined to flame. I personally don't like these because they take way too long and who has time. They have no humor, no jokes, no pic that encompasses all the action at once. They seem to have a very hollow and shallow report that no one seems to like. People say to put it in the forum, does it belong there, maybe. It is definatly not a welcomed addition to the site and I suggest you take a hard look at the comments and try to mend the situation. Instead of blindly following your ideas that everyone will like these and those who don't are narrow-minded neanderthals lost in a stone-age you believe BR's too be. |

Before I start, I'd like to say that I do know some people who post here at Battlereports.com, and I do not wish to make them my enemies. With that being said, I'd like to state that I see nothing at all wrong with this style of reporting. It's a review of a battle isn't it? So is a text and pictures report. In my eyes, they're very much the same.
I realize there are some great writers out there who value their talent and do not wish to see it overwhelmed by simple audio reports, but I can't help finding the audio more entertaining. It gives me a sort of personal connection to the reporter. I would've thought that most people here would welcome new styles to the site... but then I haven't been here very long, so I guess I don't know you guys well enough.
All I'm trying to say is that I like the audio reports, and that I do not understand what's so bad about them. Also, I don't know what this hacking talk is all about. I must've missed a post or something, but I didn't see any hacks or hacking tips in these reports. Jack9, if you are promoting hacks, please stop.
Another thing that I have noticed, though, is that since it's an audio report, it can be tough to rate it if possible at all. This is probably asking too much... especially for just one guy, but maybe battlereports.com could open up an audio only section...? I dunno, I'm just throwing ideas out there.
I support Jack9's format, but realize that most of the community does not. I still don't quite understand why, but I just wanted to be heard since not many people have stood up for him.
Ack! I jump around too much in this post. =]
To Jack9:
I do not have the proper software to play the actual replay... (not the audio, the replay) is there a place that I could download it? If you posted that and I missed it as well, I'm sorry for asking.
To the regs:
Some of you are pretty nice to me on battle.net (CrackHeadJeb, ~Genesis, a lot of others in Clan ~NoHunters), and, once again, I don't want to anger you guys by posting this. I just felt like I needed to state my opinion, so please don't flame me too maliciously.

#17. Heh. You don't host hacks, which is why you link to files named MAPsHACK.zip and maphack.zip, with the quote, "The site I got them from is known for linking to working files, so although I've never tried them I'm pretty sure they work."
But then you say, "I have not linked to anything that anyone else couldnt easily find...which is the point."
So you're basically saying, "Since people can easily find these files elsewhere, I don't host hacks even though they're blatantly on my page." You're like a culmination of all of the lamers who have ever played Starcraft.
#18. Rowdy~Zergling, you don't have to worry about flames from me. It takes a lot to set me off. btw, get that report done, son. ^^
The replays essentially are to an unsupported game. You need the 1.08 alpha patch to replay, the replay files (from my understanding) essentially rebuild the game using internal program data. This is why these replays are small in comparison to the gigibyte-large .avis I create with Hypercam. ^^
A replay section was going to be created when a Blizzard-supported, balance-fixed patch 1.08 was released. I will not download a non-official patch to view these now, as there is no place for these on this site, yet.

Geee... You're fucking dense.
Mirroring the 1.08O and 1.07 BW install right under the link to the hacks page is a fucking slap in the face to me. I don't care what the inside joke with RedCloak is, linking to a hacks page will certainly not make me your friend.
I don't care when people plug their websites here, but when you inadvertently (or on purpose, I don't know) expose people to hacks, you have to be fucking dense.

| Dont know why my last msg was repeated. Hrmph. I have an 8 node network at my home with people who are always ready to play a friendly game and I do not play on battlenet anymore unless it's with someone I know. In fact, you'll usually find me on FSGS servers. I am a professional programmer, so calling me dense doesnt even hurt my feelings, heh. I do make mistakes, I'm not perfect and do not try to be when it comes to games and game related topics. They are just for fun. When you do not cater to other people's views on the internet, it tends to make them sound very bitter. Communication on the internet is often between seemingly intolerant parties. Relationships (good or bad) over the internet are BS. IRC is a classic example. So you're (and a number of others) are not my friend; I dont cry over it. As for not wanting to install a 1.08O patch because it is unsupported by blizzard...does this mean that you do not use mods either? |
| #30 Squeaky[88391] |

Plugging your site is fine. Plugging your site with hacks on it is what causes problems. You've removed them, but left up a link. This could cause problems for you, because hacking or the supporting of hacking is generally frowned upon here.
I'm not telling you to quit using/ distributing hacks, nor am I telling you to stop plugging your site (because what good would that do?), I'm simply saying that hacking in this community is not a good idea. |
| #31 CrackHeadJeb[88393] |
| mu-178245.dhcp.missouri.edu |
Dodge the reason why I'm flaming you more, please.
It's great that you are a professional programmer, I bet you are damn good, too.
That doesn't make you not dense, though.
You want to avoid the subject, because in your mind, your doing nothing wrong.
Maybe the average battle-netter appreciates that you point them to where they get the maphack, but I think I speak for many people here when I say that that link should disappear. I know RedCloak is an idiot, but you don't have to make yourself part of the problem. It's the principle of the matter. As long as the link stays on your page, I will continue to be "bitter" about it until it is gone.
-CrackHeadJeb
p.s. I don't use mods, and the vast majority of people that play Starcraft do not do so, either. |
