Anyway, never EVER tell people that you lost in the first paragraph. You need to edit your pictures, even if it is just cropping it into a rectangle. Screenshots save as pcx, and these were in gif, so you must've changed them somewhere along the lines. If you don't feel comfortable with collages, just include 1 screen's-worth of "valuable" footage. Get rid of the crap.
Also, not much text compared to number of pictures. You have a decent writing style, but there simply wasn't enough of it. Nice for a first try.

Ok...this was ok for a first report. DO NOT EVER, EVER, GIVE AWAY GAME WINNER IN FIRST PARAGRAPH! Takes away all manner of suspence the game may have had. It seemed as if you kinda half assed this report. I know that sounds harsh, but I don't mean it in a mean way. What i mean is that you only used pictures that were uneditied, no html, and probably no spellcheck (seekrit?)...and yet it was still a decent BR.

Um, the part in the beginning where you said that this was a not exciting battlereport, was kind of negative. Plus the appearance that you didn't really take the time to get good screenshots (you could have fast forwarded to the right location with Fastest*16 in no time with a game that length), strongly suggests that you don't care in the slightest whether your battlereport is any good or not (there were other issues, but these were the most striking to me).
And if you give that impression, your battlereport will be viewed as such.

"seekrit" is, like, stylized writing.
Also, I suck with Photoshop, which is what I used to convert them to .GIF files. I'll try to edit them next time.

Why does every newer reporter here always insult themselves in the first paragraph of their battle report. I mean, have some confidence in your reporting abilities. You write well, so you have that going for you. You just need to refine the art a little.

I don't know if it was the flurry of fanfics I've been forced to read as rater candidate, or the suddenly rather nice weather over here, but I didn't think this was nearly as bad as Strega said.
This definately showed an awful lot of potential. Your text was great ( even if there was not enough of it ) - witty, communicating the action nicely and with a lot deal of flow. Try going more indepth about micro and the like, but, hey, I guess this is your first br.
The pics were, as others have said, not cropped, and not in collages - you're gonna have to change that. But then, that's also a newbie mistake and I'm sure you'll fix it for your next br.
No you CAN'T say you lost in the opening paragraph. And this game was quite bad - extremely one sided to say the least. Better next time.

So it is that, since I won't/wouldn't give extra points for first time brs ( kind of unfair to all those who deserved and got a gold mark in the past for a first report ), I'd hand this a 6. With a bit of work, you could've gotten a 7, and I'm sure your next attempt will go even higher than that. |

Oh and here's some tips on your game by a fairly average nh player ( me ):
- First of all, defense<offense. A player who goes heavy defense and spends all his money on sunkens or bunkers won't have enough cash to create a decent offense to get you, and you'll have the initiative. I hardly ever make a bunker these days, except maybe one in my mineral line if I'm really worried about drops.
- Secondly, never lose the initiative. It seemed you just waited outside the Zerg main until something good happened. You should have gone on the offensive and ripped that base to shreds - what if he came marching out with lurkers?
- Third, recon is the key to victory. Comsat should be your friend. Use it very often.
- Fourth, I'd suggest going after expansions before mains, but other people have other opinions on that.

If I were ever to write a battle report, I would not present it as a first timer type of thing. Just saying 'oh, well, my next BR will be better' is not good enough. Try your hardest to make a great battle report.... that includes a good game between known players (you would think it wouldn't matter who the players are, but it gives it a sense of familiarity.), graphics, html, humour, the works. There are thousands of good battle reports here; use them as examples.
Naturally, this is just my personal opinion. I've never written a battle report before, so it might be best to take this with a grain of salt. Good luck in the future.
Oh, and about your firewall: I thought if port 6112 was blocked, that just meant that you couldn't host games, but you could still join them. Am I completely wrong about this? I don't know. |

Most of it's been said - crop the pix, more text, don't give away the ending in the first paragraph, etc.
But it was pretty good for a first time. Although you did switch to calling your friend Brian once, maybe twice, instead of Cyborg :). And your "signature logo" is probably 3 times the size it needs to be.
Oh, and fix that map - get rid of half the minerals at each base, make the other two corners starts, and it looks like it would be a good 4-player map. But for a 2 player, it might as well be a money map - and that's just not a good thing :P. |

Killah and Dagomar, all I can say is WTF?!?
When did I make out that this BR was awful? I said that the text was pretty good but there wasn't enough of it. I also said that the pictures needed to be cropped. That's not harsh, that's me trying to give friendly advice. Also, I said that it was a nice try for a first report.
Later on, I added a comment saying, basically, that money maps suck. Please tell me where I was "a dick."

Overmind, I don't think you guys really know how the rater test works. I give my PROPOSED marks to Mark4, if they're too far from what he'd give I don't get in, otherwise I do. THEN, all the raters can rate again and your reports will be rated as normally.
