I understand why corbalt didn't want to have the replay posted though, he seemed to be trying weird stuff at the start that would hardly work, especially with the terran scouting the quite delayed dt drop and the stargate

lol that's right Breeze! I just found a really good one, so my next battlereport will be about that one. I'll be leaving for Edmonton on Thursday ( gonna go camping in the rockies ), so I won't write another br after Thursday for about three weeks+.
Which is why I'll probably hand in my next report after this one on Wednesday . . . though that'll be quite a bit of work :).

about your images, they are much crisper and the black border looks nicer than, like, bright blue
but until you use photoshop to create anti-aliased text (is that right?), i would avoid using 'image text'. it is jagged and just screams MSPAINT.

There were some mistakes, as you mentioned there was the occasional white gap. Also, a horizontal bar cuts into one of the pics when viewing on my comp.

I tried to radically cut down on adjectives and what some might consider useless descriptive writing, but I'm not sure that worked ( it certainly made it alot harder to write ). I'm not quite sure whether I'll keep it that way, maybe I should seek a compromise between these two writing styles, I dunno.

Two problems
1) Most of the collages weren't framed and therefore, you have 3-4 pictures running together making it confusing.
2) Vague writing and lack of minimaps made the action tough to follow.

Well, I'm not changing my writing style again . . . it seems that ALL of you liked what I usually do better, so that's how it'll stay. I was just trying something out with this br . . . but I'm thankful for the feedback =D. Adjectives are still my friends . . . I'll use them next time, with more description. I think the major reason the writing was worse here is because I didn't LIKE writing this way . . . it didn't work for me, I was continually irritated.
One thing that will change from now on: more pics like this. That's about it.
And maybe more white backgrounds =D.

I liked in the beginning how you had a small picture to go along with what happened in every paragraph. That just made sense to me. And like everyone said, the game was kind of hard to follow. You didn't introduce the players, you didn't describe their build orders and you didn't even say what map it was on (although that could be inferred from the minimaps). Before the end, when Heaven started to overpower Corbalt, I still had that mindset that Corbalt was the 'good guy' and he was going to win, and I was a little surprised when he didn't. It seemed too sudden.
I'm glad someone's experimenting with new styles, rather than just sticking with the tried-and-true. Good job. |

| Dag, even though this time the game was abnormally good and had a few twists, the main problem with your reports is that they're a bit boring. Funny alt text or pictures, music, flash, anything, but try to spice your reports up some (1 naked chick isn't spice). Although it wasn't by any means a bad report, if I had just skipped to the bottom and gotten the replay, I wouldn't have really missed out on anything. 7. |

I'm not sure about my battlereports being a bit borring . . . some are, some aren't. I think it's very easy to see where I was enthusiastic about the game, and where I wasn't and was just kinda trying to have some fun. This is one of the latter cases ;). Sorry Corbalt, I only noticed that comments section AFTER I posted the br, otherwise I can assure you I'd never have done it.

So ya - I'm releasing one more BR before I go camping in the rockies. This one will be my best yet, I hope, and will have my normal writing with better pics. I also hope to include more humour than normal ( I'm not an overly funny guy when writing big battlereports, especially not an 1:00 AM ). And, I'd like to have some more originality. I've been looking through ten rated battlereports and my brs that were rated over a nine lately ( or at least, the ones that would load on my 56K ), and have realized those were some of the key ingredients that got a report over a ten.
By the way, that pic is a shot of my girlfriend before we had wild sex. Just letting you guys know.

I preferred this writing style Dag... don't give up on it yet. In many cases of writing, less is more. My favourite example is Tolkein. He rarely every uses long or complicated words, but he evokes emotions better then any other author. Everything about his work is epic, but he seems to do it so effortlessly. Its all in the timing I guess, I have tried to duplicate his style as have others but noone can succeed.
Anyways I'm kind of off on a tangent, but to me excessive use of adjectives makes the writing cumbersome and annoying to read. It also takes away all the impact of the times you do use elaborate wording. As the molson ex guy says, moderation is the key. |

I agree with the comment about Tolkien, that guy rocked! I bet that the Lord Of The Rings movie will suck in comparison to the book. =(
One of the best features of Tolkiens writing is his descriptive methods. He doesn't use enormous, overly-complicated words (usually), just as Napoleic pointed out. What he DOES do, however, is work magic with the simpler words. The mental picture is the same (if not better) as if he had used large "intelligent" words, but you don't need a degree in English to understand it.
The point is: I am simply trying to sound smart by stealing somebody else's comment.
Personally I liked your old style better, but with a little work this style could be just as good. Stick with what you enjoy, or else you'll end up quitting BRing because it just isn't fun anymore.

Anyhow I liked this report. I think i enjoy your older style better but this one is very good also i believe. Its short, sweet and to the point. Although some more description of certain points int he game would be better. Like when da hell did Heaven get starports or factories? Or when did Corb dish out a stargate? ya kno things liek that...maybe you could re-organize things. I don't know much tho becuz I didn't watch the replay or read the BR twice but that is what i remember off the top of my head. I think just add some minimaps, some more description and keeping up w/their troops/strategies/buildings every couple paragraphs will make you a Hall of Famer :)

So far we is like 20-5 on old school hunters and temple. Personaly i loved this report, to the fact that you cant see girls nipples i say, hey partly covered is sexier than fully exposed. Anyways i liked the white background, makes it easier to read, and I liked the blue divider, Dag you were right though about the wide open spaces, needs something... I give this a 8.5 for kudos work. Also to the fact that Corb says dont br any game I(Corb) loses, i think I(myself) would be honored to be in a br no matter if I won or lost. I just believe its for fun and if I or other players learn something from my mistakes then hey, something good came from me losing.

Well, unlike EVERYONE else, apparently, I hate your adjectives. I like writing with maybe a few adjectives scattered here and there... any more and it seems like a fanfic. It doesn't work for you, because you don't like doing it, so you're screwed either way when it comes to me really liking your reports.
I really liked the image style (except for the text, god that was ugly). The writing - eh-eh *waggles palm*.
