Heh, neat stuff, although I like the tactical discussion better :]
By the way, if I'm still a rookie, you should sack me, and wait for a guy with higher bravery. After all, you can't count on a guy with 10 bravery, and if ou aren't counting on your support person, then he's just a waste of space.
Also, since I've starting playing, It appears to me that throwing accuracy is the most worthless stat in the game. If it affected the distance, it would be good, but people with 50 throwing accuracy almost always throw correctly, and if someone misses, it's no big deal if that grenade / whatever you are throwing landed 1 space to the left, you know?
So basically, for my support/medic people I just look for 50 or 60 bravery, and high strength. The other stuff is just extra (good TUs are preferred). So if you find someone like that, could you make me him please? I don't want to be worthless X_X
Also, what type of ship was that last one? (the one with all the protrusions) I've fought a terror ship before, but none of the other large UFOs.
Perhaps what you could do is, before each mission, describe the UFO and the surrounding terrain, then tell us your strategy for attacking it. And after that, you could quickly outline the action.
BTW I can't believe you did so well vs. those chryssalids. That's completely insane. I haven't fought them yet, but I've heard plenty of nightmarish things happening (like, a Chrysallid walks around a corner, kills an entire squad of three soldiers, and those all hatch into 3 more chryssalids). Anyways GW.
That turned into quite a ramble. |

Bravery isn't important so long as none of your high-ranking soldiers on the mission die. If they do, though, expect panic and berserking. I'll recreate you, though, if you like.
That last ship was a Medium sized UFO. Odd that it was 2-teired, but a lot of it was closed off.
I like the idea of mission description. I'll use it.
Well, I got lucky vs the Chryssalids. Thse kinds of TSWs (Total Squad Wipes) do happen, but I was separated from them by a large stretch of empty road, so they got blown apart before they could get to me. The TSWs happen when they catch you by surprise, like when you're in tight quarters.
Yes, they're increasing it. Probably should've been more clear. |

| Heh, I assumed that Bravery helped with the mind blasts that sectoids and ethereals used. If not, then bravery isn't as important, but bad things do happen even if you play flawlessly (as evidenced by that mission in this BR). So I generally require that Rocketeers and Medics have 50 bravery (prefer 60), but that was because I thought it helped with psi attacks. |

I wish to volunteer my skills in the fight for the preservation of mankind. And if I get to shoot the crap out of any nasty aliens that come my way, so much the better.
Have previous experience as a search engine, so would like to be a SC, but hey, anything is considered.
Have also survived a Cunjo hunt. After that, even those nasty Chryssalids should be a walk in the park.

I totally disagree with you Eldritch. I likee ythe x-com reports because it is funny to read about frindly fire, civilians being shot, operatives who keep missing the aliens, and of course
I really like to read about my actions. Do I kill an alien? DO I get killed? Do I save another operatives' life?

Argh! It is the mighty Leet Floaters of Doom! I think we have too many people, Eld. The rotations are taking so long that no one is going to get to go on more than one mission if we keep getting only small and medium UFOs. Oh, wait, I just answered my own question. Where are all the big UFOs? Im getting bored and my rocket launcher is full of cheese!(whoever did that is going to die in many horrible ways) Well, if any really big UFOs show up, lets hope it doesnt turn out like in Independence Day. Love that movie, but its a little creepy for me. I love when the aliens are blowing up New York and the guy turns around in his car and he's like, "Aw, crap" like two second before he gets consumed by the fireball. Loser. Well, hope we get some good missions soon and I get to go on them. By the way, what status am I? I'd like to know what the likelyness is that I'll be selected for tricky missions.

Yeah, you get the hang of it though :)
Here's a tip: whenever you first start a mission, have the front guy toss a smoke grenade out below the ramp. (The first two guys in the inventory screen at the start are your first two guys on the ramp. Put the smoke grenade on one of them.) |
| #59 Keilah AKA GaynusUpTheAnus[157357] |

| #60 Artius[157358] |
| 67.97.164.20 |
I'm not so sure about that GUTA. I'm pretty sure that you can get a leader from a battleship to tell you as well.
Also, as a tip to Meatwhad...
One thing that helps a lot is just knowing how to get out of the ship without dying. You can often use the wheels of your ship as cover points. Sometimes you still just get unlucky initially.
The big thing though is to use proximity grenades liberally. That was the key tidbit that helped me to "win missions" as a new player. When you know an alien is in a building or ship, just throw a proximity grenade right into the doorway square and then wait him out. |

Hmm, badme died....I should be shot for saying this but...
ALL VERSUS BADME KE KE KE KE
Ok, I said it. I'm going to read all the reports over again, partly because my Dawn of War multipllayer isn't working and partly because I'd like to see what Haike is talking about. That was the worst mission to date, right? Not even the Great Floater Massacre of '05 can match the horror of that night! Also, you made The Dark Lord Sindri a soldier? Do you know how much outrage his reports caused anyone? (the comments were funny tho hehe) He will backstabbinate us all and get mindcontroled and we'll go unsubconcious and then he'll sell the story of our defeat to the newspapers ad we will have to hide out in Canada and start a mackerel Farm!
I'm very sorry about that. I learned that hard way that you should never eat cheese that you find near nuclear missile silos. What decides the size and frequency of what UFOs show up, is it random? Oh, and I'd love a site where I can download a demo of X-Com. |

| SNK, sort-of. You have to be a Squaddie (one rank above rookie) in order to increase your stats at all. Beyond that, I don't think it affects it that much. After you get Squaddie, your stats increase by what you do (I think). Like, if you shoot and hit enemies alot, your accuracy increases, if you run around alot, your TUs and stamina increase, etc. |

Amen Archbound, amen. I am already writing the funeral speech. AH-HEM-HEM
"We are gathered here today to mourn EldritchEvil, righter of wrongs and writer of battle reports. But even more so, we are here to mourn the loss of the X-Com reports we all loved more then life itself. A team of elite Battlereports.com staff was inserted into Eldritch's house in an attempt to retreive a copy of the reports. Unfortunately, it appears that Eldritch died at the computer, and as he fell, his head hit the keyboard and erased the battle report he was working on. It appears it was the sixth installment of the X-Com report series, and although the other five intsallments were later secured, we will never know what happened next. Did General Captain Eldritch save the Earth from the alien invasion? Or were they overwhelmed and the Earth fell? Perhaps when we die, we can ask Eldritch when we, too, are up in that big gaming convention in the sky. But for now, let us drown our sorrows in massive quantities of root beer and potato chips. This is RabidMurloc saying, let us party."
So what do you think? Thumbs up, I be happy. Thumbs down, I run from Eld's terrible vengance. |

So, uh... to commemorate this momentous event, I went back to check out the old EldritchEvil Escape velocity reports, but the links for 5-7 have broken.
How unfortunate.

If you what you mean by 'comments broken' is when you have to scroll horizontally, all you have to do to find the perpetrator is find the person who has a very, VERY long word in their comment. Of course, I'm sure you already knew that...
BTW, I think I got your fatal, life threatening disease :( |

Ah. It was SnK-Arcbound.
I will think of an appropriate punishment. Execution by firing squad seems likely. |

Comments after reading series:
1 Who says playing anything above the bottom 3 diff lvls is impossible? Fighting off base invasions before your first reaserch item is done is FUN, damnit!
2 iirc, bravery affects how fast moral falls/rises. Moral drops can trigger off of even a rookie biting it, and you DO have to deal with post-mindcontrol chain-panics with low bravery units.
3 Not in gif or png? Bad boy, no cookie.
Fun read otherwise. Is the hidden weapon proficency thingamabob in UFO:D as well as TFTD? Might be good since you're roleplaying the squaddies a bit |

Arcbound, you just hate me, don't you? And my IQ is 186.
btw, you can get to X-COM no. 6, even though it doesn't show up as posted. Go to this report, click on the link, and then change the address bar to read xcom6 instead of xcom5. really weird. |

| That's because the report seems to be incomplete and still being written BeRzErKeR. Apparently EE uploaded an incomplete version as a backup copy or for someone to proofread. He'll submit it when he's done. |

Great job EldritchEvil. I know you will probably NEVER read this, but if you get the chance, I would like to have my name in as a soldier. I am currently writing my first full report for the site, but I have been here for many years. If you would be so kind, I would like to be a Sharp Shooter, or, to put it in your words:
"EldritchEvil, I want to fight aliens in XCOM! Make me a soldier. Please try and give me an SS classification"
Thanx, and again, great job |

At least one person has posted a link to download the game in every single comments section of EE's X-COM reports. Including this one. |
