It was cool to see GammaRayBurst on there, since his reports are my favorites.

If I had Starcraft and a high speed connection I would have played. :(

I've got to get a decent report out and a decent connection so I can play in the next tourney...

Anyway, I played BlueRibbon 1v1 the other day (Thursday?), PvT. I'm 0-1 against him now - he dropped my main just as I was thinking about forcing his ramp (thought he didn't have enough tanks) and/or expanding. gg me. Of course, I'm notoriously slow, indecisive, and sloppy, but the rep shows good execution on his part. Gj man.

7 for this report, btw.

#15 maareek[158342]
mblt-aa007.gtcom.net
First game it was obvious I had the game, I mean I had him outexpanded and had popped a ton of ovies. At times like that I almost always just start experimenting, and since I knew I had to face eri next (because I didn't know he was out ;/) I wanted to soak in all the winning I could on the day. :/

Game vs Blueribbon I just played like an idiot. I expected him to either go for a quick drop or muta, possibly mass ling so I did a build to punish any of those builds. Unfortunately, that's not what he did. -_- Though as badly as I fucked up the timing, I probably would have lost to any of those 3 builds anyway.

Hey dibb, you've been mentioned in several battle reporters...just never as a player before. :)

#16 Raider[158343]

Nice write up mark.

Yeah that game vs fox was ugly--really poor start by me.

Congrats to Corb.

#17 maareek[158344]
mblt-ab075.gtcom.net
haha, I've figured it out! Blueribbon got ilnp to play for him then ilnp got Elky to get (insert random semi-pro/pro Z player here) to play for him, who then lost to corbalt. :)

** I am not the only person who thought (thinks) BlueRibbon did not play in this tourney.

I WILL say that ribbon told me he hadn't been on east since December and at least two people (DD and Peaceable) have said that they played him within a week of the tourney and that he was around the level he was the last time I played him. He was also fairly low apm, compared to his ~220 in the tourney games.

There's no way to prove anything and honestly it doesn't really matter, but I'd be pissed if it wasn't blue playing and blue got the money. ;( Plus I think we'd all like to know who we ACTUALLY played.

(and the ilnp thing is a bad joke, BUT IT COULD BE TRUE! ;p)**

Awesome reps. I really wanted Eri or Fox to win this thing (out of the probable candidates) but I'm impressed with Blue! Corb was arguably the favourite along with Eri so the outcome is no surprise. The report was also pretty good considering it was only a summary - going to give it a 7 for all the great rep links, and your own work in organizing this Mark. GJ!
#21 [158348]
user-12l2ep3.cable.mindspring.com
I'd give mark a 10 for this easily, but I'm obviously biased so I won't rate it. He deserves it for the incredible amount of time and effort that he put into running this tournament. He recruited the players, managed the tourney during game time, updated brackets, wrote up the summary of the tourney, posted replays, and paid the winners. Damn!

This was seriously the most fun I've had online in a long time. The tournament actually got me playing BW again.

Maybe I'll play in the next one! If so, you all can pray you play me. =)

me = 37 apm, *cries*

summary plus reps plus organizing = 10

P.S not that i like to toot my own horn........but in both of the games i obsed before i played, killed all scvs:P ggthx

Game 1 vs GRB, I guess I did okay for not having a build order at all. I deduced he had expanded, so I was just going for the main, since one island wouldn't be enough for him. I tried to at least separate up my drop forces into 2 different spots so he couldn't storm them all. =) I was reasonably competent in the fact that as I dropped his main I was expanding twice, and in fact was going to drop a drone on several other isles as well and just power mutas once I got gas going.

Game 2 vs Everlong, I don't know how to explain this one. I would remember to do a few things, then remember other things 3 minutes past the fact. I knew he was expanding early, yet I just couldn't figure out a build to go attack him with any semblance of force. Very awkward. That's what I get for not practicing at all. My friend was watching me play, and I did tell him "how do I wall in again?" =/ Great use of observers by him, as I was pretty determined to expand 2x. I knew on some level what I needed to do, I just couldn't process all of the information and actually DO it.. kinda like I was lagged 3 minutes behind.

Lots of fun, great to play bw again and there's just no doubt it's the best RTS ever made. I loved war3, but it can't hold a candle to this.

Having watched all the reps now, I'd be guessing that, whoever BR was, it wasn't a pro... or at least, if it was, he was very rusty. Unit control was of course ridiculous, but I noticed that whoever it was consistently had a lower unit count, even when expansions etc were equal or near-equal. Which would seem odd from a pro. But then, what do I know. Here's hoping for some honor among gamers.

#26 maareek[158355]
mblt-ab012.gtcom.net
Well, BlueRibbon was obviously not a pro or even semi-pro for that matter. He wasn't on par with Corb, though I'd call him probably a C/C+ PGT player, at least at ZvP (only MU he played in tourney). I mean, pure and simple, in that first game vs Corb on nost he choked. And then in that second game, on top of the fact that he picked THE BEST non-island P map, he was outupgraded really badly, I don't recall seeing a really good Z get so badly outupgraded in a while.

Yeah, yeah, Johnny we all know you'll play in the next one and own us all hardcore. :)

sorry for not sending the replay, i thought you already had it. i just mailed it now

summary of the game:

lt, me chosen toss at 9, all-fear random zerg at 3. as soon as i see he randomed to zerg i cancel gate and to double nexus with forge and cannons. he exps to his natural and a little later to 6 main. i chase away a lord from his cliff with a sair and cannon it up unnoticed. he never recovers from that, i take 6 main with superior numbers. the end.

not really that much fun replay imho, the cannons gayed it up.

@overtheunder: man you so had our pvt game won if you only attacked at any time before i got carriers, that gas incident really screwed me up. what was even more outraging was that the same fucking thing happened to me in the game vs fox too. probes just moving to the assim but not starting to mine gas =[, guess i clicked on the assim just a fraction of a second before it was finished :/. i noticed it way earlier in my game vs fox, but while i was busy angrily looking at my probes fox went up my ramp with 6 speedlings tt

@snowy: i totally agree, i uninstalled war3 at new years cuz i wanted to stop gaming at least for a while, started on bw again a few weeks afterwards and now i spend the time i used to spend on war3 on bw again. there is no doubt which of the two is more fun ö

@peaceableghost: in pvz, zerg normally has lower supply count most of the game. if zerg has higher supply count he usually has the game won. i remember some ownage replay where zerg was down 35-140 in supply and still won with crax, really awesome replay, dun remember who played but it was some pro game

thanks mark for running the tourney, im glad i could play, and also glad i actually won games ö

ps: i had lowest apm from all the replays i downloaded tt

I love how everyone has nothing better to do than conspiracy theorize. It's a little ridiculous to assume that I went to the length of hiring a professional StarCraft player (of which I know NONE) to try to win a tournament on my name.

And let me say it again, APM is overrated. Your APM with Zerg should always be higher then with any other race, and hitting 200 with Zerg isn't unreasonable. Assume this for instance: Everytime you select a hotkeyed Hatchery with a hotkey (say 1) that is 1 Action. Now lets say you want to make units from it. You would have to hit 1 (and count with me, 1) S (for select Larva, 2), and then whatever other button for the units to make (let's say D, for Drone, 3). For Protoss, you click 1 for the Nexus, Gateway, etc. and then the hotkey for the unit. This is a three to two ratio when hotkeying for Zerg. Not to mention the micro that Zerg requires (especially against Storm, such as Cobalt's, and when you use Lurker's (how many other units do you often burrow?)). And again, just clicking on random shit on the map, and making your APM 400 *COUGH* NADA *COUGH* doesn't make you a good player.

I hope this open's some people's eyes who are obsessed with APM.

I believe BlueRibbon. Here are my reasons.

- BR contributed a great report recently, which shows he is the kind of guy that likes to contribute to a community like ours. Most people who would spend time on a report like that, wouldn't then turn around and cheat in our tourney.

- Seeing him in chat, and online, he has shown that he's a smart, and mature individual.

- I watched the replay, and while BR definitely played very well, Corb appeared to make a number of bad mistakes.

- Since BR was "unknown" nobody knew what to expect out of him, and this most likely enhanced his chances of winning.

Therefore lets not diminish from BlueRibbon's victory, by this silly conspiracy. Congrats man, we are glad to have you as a part of br.com!

One time, I was at Mark4's appartment, and... I think it might have been T-Mac... but Mark4 logged on as me to give someone an asswhooping they wouldn't expect. This was just after coming back from the pawn shop shooting range to try out his 357 (for me anyway, I'd never shot one).

Of course, it was a one time visit to a person hundreds of miles away and done as a joke (mostly because I sucked at SC even when I played).

Sounds like this was a good tournament, and, I honestly doubt you can get someone to cheat for you to split $50 or $25... why bother?

Impersonation is only worth doing when it's to make T-Mac cry in shock as he gets completely owned by a worse player...

Do you remember the game I'm talking about Mark4?

Anyway, entertaining report, as usual. Feels like old times reading a Mark4 report about Necro and Snowsquall and all those guys.

I get comedy value out of my match. Ah well, I never was a very good player and then I went on a two year SC hiatus that I just ended a few months ago. I'm pretty proud that I remembered to upgrade the heck out of my hydras, but there were just too many temps out there. I was kinda surprised there weren't more temps in maar's second match, also against Z.

it isnt too hard to tell, just watch about 10-20 rounds ( if u wanna over do it) and if there is no "empty time" then keep 3:o If i am playing a map for the first time i just look at it for a whenver i can while im building and can usually tell how many it needs:O
#49 maareek[158396]

4 peons on gas if geyser is below cc/hatch/nexus ALL THE TIME. If you only have 3 you will be mining at a large disadvantage over someone with 3 on a geyser to the side or above the cc/hatch/nexus.

And 4 is actually faster on any geyser, but the difference in most situations where it isn't below the main isn't really that big.
