Well I usually don't write reports of my games, but this game was just so hilaroious I had to write something down. Definately one of my funniest game ever. I'm sorry I don't have any screenshots and I really wish I'd taken some during the game, but it's still worth to read.

This evening I was trying to climb the ladder fast and I had been looking for a game for at least 20 minutes but everyone even above 1100 refused to play me as I was only 1075. Really frustrated I joined one of those 1050+ !"#!"#%" games expecting a fast win. Obviously this guy was korean because first he wanted zerg vs zerg, but he then accepted a zerg vs protoss game instead.

It was a regular protoss vs zerg game on lost temple with me as protoss starting at 6 o clock and him starting at 9. Since he was korean I was sure he was going fast mutalisks with zerglings. So I played extremely conservatively making two cannons and a shield battery (for archon) at my main. I scouted him not taking his natural. Maybe if my brain activity would have been a bit higher I would have realized he was going hydras. I could easily have scouted his main as well if I wouldn't accidentally have run my probe into a group of zerglings. Also my zealot scout moments later got killed due to poor micro from me.

Finding his natural empty I expanded at my own natural placing two cannons along with my ground troops there for defense. I also scouted the rest of the map making sure he wasn't doing any sneaky expansion move. I transferred probes to my natural giving me a huge temporary advantage in economy and I really felt I had the game won.

Suddenly I see his whole natural turning white before my brave probe-scout gets killed by maybe 30-40 friendly hydralisks. I look at my defense and I'm like oops. 6-7 zealots, a dragoon, an archon, two templars and three cannons. If I wouldn't have let my stupid zealots suicide themselves at the hydras I could actually have fended off the attack since his hydra control really sucked. I managed to get off three good storms at the hydras killing a great deal of them. Still the hydras practically plowed through my natural and proceeded to my main. But I could easily repel them with continous new troop reinforcements and two cannons.

This left my main base operations intact so I had three gateways continously pumping goons/templars and a forge upgrading, a robo facility building and lots of probes. I figured I had already lost so I made a really bold move expanding at 3 o clock natural with a probe I had already snuck out earlier. I was able to transfer a lot of probes to my new expansion without him noticing before my main base was totally mined out. Then I expanded to my natural again. After a while he did discover my 3 o'clock expansion with a scouting zerglings. He constantly sent waves of hydras first to 3 o'clock then to my natural. I really was on the edge all the time. I think I fended off his first attack at my natural with like 2 dragoons, a cannon and some probes. And I stopped one bigger attack at my natural with effective use of one reaver. I had a really big accumulation of gas all the time by some reason so I was able to make a lot of templars all the time which probably saved me. I must have killed hundreds of hydras with only psi-storm. He tried some mutalisk harassment at my main as well but I could hold all his attacks back and after expanding three times more, to my mineral only natural and to 2 o clock and 12 o clock he realised he'd lost and conceded the game to me.

Even though I had almost lost the game I could pull my self back into the game since he had no lategame skills whatsoever. Obviously this was a one strategy guy because I rematched him in a protoss/protoss game which I very easily won outexpanding him by at least 4x and containing him while he tried some 4 reaver drop and later 6 reaver drop. I killed 6 reavers with two psi-storms! =]

I guess I coulda been a bit more offensive of-cannoning him with templar-zealot-archon support but I felt that would make me very vulnerable to mutalisk attacks so I played passively instead since it usually works. Basically I made two big mistakes that nearly lost me the game. I wasn't able to scout him and I didn't micro my defense good enough losing one of my templars before he could fire off his last storm.

This has actually happened to me before, getting my natural completely wiped out by hydralisks but then working my self back into the game with psi-storm. I guess most zergs just don't have any lategame =]

Morals
Never give up!
Scouting is so extremely important, especially in this matchup.
Psi-storm still owns non-micro zergs.
Protoss vs zerg is all about micro.
Any strategy is lethal when you don't expect it.
