Toilet-Duck-28 VS Datac3

By: Gruntwrapper

Map name: The River Styx

Both participants go random. Toilet-Duck-28 gets zerg in the north, while Dattac3 draws terran in the south. Toilet-Duck-28 sends his Olord south, as well as his 6th drone. The drone arrives when Dattac3 has 9 SCVs, looks about, then slithers to his enemy's natural to the east and sits on the bridge watching for expansion. The first thing Toilet-Duck-28 builds other than drones is a hatchery at his expansion to the west. Hatch #2 finishes 3:30 into the game, as does a pool at his main.

Meanwhile, Dattac3 goes for a depot on 8, then 2 barracks. The 12th SCV or so scouts north. The first skirmish of the game comes when an SCV goes to cross the bridge leading to Dattac3's natural and meets that drone, about 3:30 into the game. The drone flees...to Dattac3's gas & begins to form an extractor on it at the 3:45 mark!

3 marines eventually fire at it until it morphs back to a drone. Then they inexplicabily walk the other way. Non-plussed, the drone tries again! This time it finishes the morph, and the marines have to return.
Next we skip ahead to the 6:30 mark. We find that Toilet-Duck-28 has completed an extractor at his main along with 3 sunkens just south of his hatchery. At the same time, Dattac3 has just finished a bunker to the immediate south of Toilet-Duck-28's main! Toilet-Duck-28 has 6 lings by 7:30, but by 8:00, there are two bunkers there, 4 marines in each, + 1 SCV.

BUILD-UP

Dattac3 also begins gas production at 8:00 into the game. Toilet-Duck-28 Is mining gas at his natural at 8:30, and has a lair at 10:00 into the game. Dattac3 Has a factory w/machine shop at the 11:30 mark, a starport w/no control tower at 12:45, makes his first tank at 13:00, and gets seige ability at 13:30. Toilet-Duck-28 has a Qnest at 12:00, a spire at 12:30, and 2 token scourge to patrol south of his expansion. At 14:45, 6 marines and that tank arrive at the 2 bunkers. Dattac3 Finishes a cc at his expansion at 15:30, and has 2 more bunkers even *closer* to Toilet-Duck-28's main at 17:00. Toilet-Duck-28 has been building mutas. He's got 10 at the 17:00 mark, floating between bases in a clump.

THE BATTLE BEGINS

At 17:30, 2 wraiths from that starport take down that Olord sent a-scoutin' at the start of the game, just north of Dattac3's base.

Toilet-Duck-28, however, is on the move. At 18:00, a flock of 12 mutas descend upon Dattac3's main. They target workers building turrets, then the turrets themselves. 12 marines try to engage them. The mutas eventually fly over to the expansion and kill the SCVs. Most of Dattac3's forces are at the budding tank push.

Did somebody say tank push? At 19:00, it offically begins. Apparently thinking that the best way to counteract the mutas is to attack as well, Dattac3 launches his assault. Toilet-Duck-28's answer is 0/0 lings, in waves of 12-15 at a time. It gets bloody as the lings barely dent a tank. But something else is stirring deep within the zerg camp. At the 24:00 mark, the defenses are broken, and Dattac3 sends in 10 marines to mop up. GG. Except the 4 guardians that just hatched bomb them out of existence. By 26:00, the 3 guardians that survived the 10 marines are mopping up what's left of the tank push. Then a wraith shows up, and Toilet-Duck-28 has zero means to attack air. Some scourge at this point might have been huge. By the time some scourge arrive, there are more wraiths. A little dance ensues, as the wraiths strike the guardians, the scourge chase them, the wraiths fly to the safety of the bunkers.

Another tank rolls up but gets nixed by a spawn broodling from a queen Toilet-Duck-28 had built earlier. In trying to replace lost guardians, Toilet-Duck-28 fails to keep up scourge production, and 4 wraiths roam free in zerg airspace to destroy most all the remaining guardians, prompting
But Toilet-Duck-28 builds a hydra den, and at 34:00, has 6 of them. Dattac3 has 8 wraiths, and soon baits the hydras to die to newly installed tanks at the push. Had Dattac3 charged in here with the wraiths, there was very little Toilet-Duck-28 could do about it. Most of the drones could easily have been wiped out. Olords, too. Instead he waits. At 38:00, any tanks are broodlinged, and a guardian/hydra combo starts putting a serious hurt on the push.

POST-TANK PUSH

With his push in trouble Dattac3 takes a simpler and more elegant approach: Olord round-up. Between 41:00-44:00, most every Olord has been cleaned off the map by wraiths. In return, the tank push is turned into ruins, and some lings, still 0/0 like pretty much all units on the board, kill the SCVs beginning to mine Dattac3's mineral-only expansion & force the cc to lift off. At 45:00, Toilet-Duck-28 beigns an expansion at his mineral-only. A casual scan notices this attempt, and the 6-8 wraiths that had been Olord hunting run in. They try to kill any Olords and remain cloaked to deal damage, but Toilet-Duck-28 manages to hold out.
Toilet-Duck-28 then decides he's been on the defensive long enough. 16 hydras guarding the mineral-only expansion are sent towards Dattac3's base. It just so happens that Dattac3 had *just* seiged tanks with marine support on the bridge the mutas were about to cross.

The hydras flee.

END GAME

Dattac3 Now uses his wraith fleet of 9 to harrass drones. First at the mineral-only then at the natural. At the same time, he moves up his bridge troops to tank push the mineral-only. All this at about 49:00. Toilet-Duck-28 can't fight on both fronts at the same time, so he uses his remaining hydras to stop the tank push, while the natural goes under to the wraiths. It costs Toilet-Duck-28 almost all of his hydras to do so.

Toilet-Duck-28 has some drones to mine the mineral-only, but Dattac3 has his mineral-only going full-speed. At 56:00, 12 marines and some tankage arrive at Toilet-Duck-28's mineral-only. It is fought off, but Toilet-Duck-28's resource production pales to his enemy. A last desparate attempt to even the resource battle fails at 59:00 as 9 0/0 lings die before they can scratch Dattac3's mineral-only, compliments of a tank and a few marines. At the 1:00:00 mark, the 8 wraiths finish the demolition of the natural and along with 3 tanks and some marines destroy the other expansion. With no more resource income, Toilet-Duck-28 resigns.

WINNER: Dattac3!!!!

LESSONS LEARNED:

1. Neither side seemed to shift-click mass units in battle. Several times it seemed either side could have wiped out a similar size force doing this. For example, the muta strike could have been much more deadly.

2. Upgrades were pretty much forgotten.

3. It takes a loooooooooooooooooong time to do a br.

4. Either one of these two could kill me blindfolded.
