1v1 FOC: Footmen Can Swim! - by Ubergenerl of the WarCraft Town Hall
10/17/99

This game started as a 2v2 water map with me (Ubergenerl) and Warlock, facing off against two others. However, about 3 minutes into the game, one of the players droped, so I suggested a 1v1 between Warlock and the remaining player.

Participants:
Warlock(WC:SoL) - Blue Human 3 o'clock
vs
BrianRT - Orange Human 12 o'clock (down some)

Early game:
Well since my report starts after the very beginning of the game, I'll just hypothesize. Both players built 3 farms then a mill. Brian decided to build more farms, while Warlock opted for a barracks. Around this point, Brian's ally droped and we decided upon the 1v1 sitation. Here are pics of their bases just as this report commenced.

Sorry for the poor quality of the pics, I don't know what is up with my image editor.

At this time, both players laid down their shipyards:

And then their foundries and oil platforms:

Turning Point:
After completing their water components, each player took a different path. Warlock slapped down a blacksmith; for what purpose? I dont know, while Brian built 2 barracks and more farms.

Shortly after, Brian started puming out the footmen, while Warlock seemed content to build a few towers along his coast as well as build a ballista.

Finally, after building a transport, Brian loaded up 6 of his footmen and dumped them in Warlock's base, of which the sole defender was the ballista.

Brutal Defeat:
Brian relentlessly hammered Warlock's base, moving first to the towers, then to the peon line, then finally the major structures. Warlock didn't stand a chance, and while he did attempt to sneak a peon out, it was quickly found and dispatched.

Conclusion:
An excellent game by Brian in my opinion. That's really the first time ever that I have seen that executed that well. Warlock had a little to say afterwards on ICQ "I've never played on FOC before, which is why I suck :) You see me in a FOC game, you will most likely beat me :) Thing is, I've never played multiplayer water maps, so I had no idea what I was doing :) hehe.. I didn't even build footmen :)". So a good lesson would be to always build some base defenses: walled in tower, few grunts, or harcore navy to gun down transports (destroys are good only for this).
