Be patient, there are a few pics...
Battle of the playground bullies
Playground: Rivalry
|
Bullies:
| +Anathema+ (BLUE Protoss --Top Left)
| |
LunarSkyz::AE: (BROWN Protoss --Top Right)
|
These two will from now on referred to by their respective colors, and you all shall show them the playground respect they deserve. If you don't, one of them will steal your lunch money. I guarantee it.
Background:
The BLUE vs BROWN Rivalry has long been fought on this playground. The question is: Which bully will rule the playground this recess? Just for future reference, BLUE prefers big yellow hotdogs to do his bully work, while BROWN loves his invisible blade-weilding bullies.
Early game:
The bullies don't wait very long to lay claim to the playground. Both start with fairly standard 2 gate openings, with BROWN eventually getting a nother gate and quickly getting his Templar Archives. BLUE in this time goes for reavers (which will be referred to by their proper playground term of big fat hotdogs).
However, things get mixed up pretty quickly. Both players scout and find their opponents quickly, and then BLUE lays claim to a completely different corner of the playground. You can tell he wants more turf. Unfortunately for him, while Aiur is send him a pylon, battery, and a gateway, all to help secure this expansion, BROWN sees this total lack of respect for his playground. A couple of BROWNs young recruits gain some rank in the mighty BROWN gang by putting a stop to BLUE's foul play.
Interestingly enough, this was the only expansion attempt for a long time.
In order to teach BLUE some more respect, and to hopefully show BLUE where he belongs, BROWN goes for the throat. BROWN successfully (and almost completely) cuts off BLUE from the rest of the playground. It's going to take quite a few fancy tricks to slap BROWN back into shape. BLUE's going to have to show where his mighty gang power comes from.
Mid Game:
Yes, enter the big fat hotdogs. Big yellow hotdogs save the day when BROWN attempts to clean BLUE off the playground. BLUE had his main built solid as a rock, so the foul BROWN invisible-blade-wielding-guys couldn't completely trash the hotdogs home. So BLUE keeps his home turf, but he's cut off.
However, in the next few minutes, an interesting thing happens. All of BROWNs youngest recruits (probes) simply die. This is where the bullying starts. Out come the hotdogs and their shuttle escorts. (Unfortunately, due to blindness on my part, I didn't get to see this...) BLUE effectively kills all of BROWNs income in a matter of a couple minutes.
BROWN has the only expansion of the game, but BLUE's big hotdogs take out first the peons, then the expansion itself.
At this point, both gangs are pretty hurt. BLUE has been spending lots of cash keeping his hotdogs fed, and BROWN simply has no income at the moment.
So, with 437 minerals in the bank, BLUE captures a little more turf by building a nexus at the bottom left corner. He eventually develops this into a proper BLUE outpost. Keep in mind that the BLUE shuttle service is getting a lot of work here, because BROWN owns a very important part of BLUE's home turf (yes, the ramp).
Late Game:
When BROWN hears through his vast network of spies that BLUE has taken some of his playground, he is furious. Unfortunately he doesn't have a lot of cash to spend on this battle, so he sends some of his elite. A few zealots, a dragoon, and a High Temp go on a finesse attack of BLUE's expansion.
But, the hotdogs are back. They quickly eliminate the threat. The tide is beginning to roll in the other direction... BROWN is getting worried that BLUE might reign this recess. So, what is a gang leader supposed to do? Yep, that's right...strike at the heart of the enemy. So, that's what happens. BROWN masses his army at BLUE's main. Meanwhile, the hotdogs are flying around in their shuttles, heading over to BROWN's main, with a few Goons to keep them company.
Here's the result of this double whammy. Due to a VERY nice layout in BLUE's main, the combination of a High Temp, DTs, and zealots falls just short of wiping out BLUE's main.
However, the goons and hotdogs are quite successful in wiping BROWN's main. They don't meet much resistance, and the hotdogs show just why they are the biggest bully on the block.
For a victory celebration, they get shuttled up to BROWN's only expansion and quickly slap BROWN in the face a few times... just for fun.

Post Recess Analysis:
|
#1 -- | These gangs rock. If you don't treat them with respect, they will walk all over you and stomp you in the ground with their big bully of choice.
| |
#2 -- | This game could've been called the see-saw battle simply because I had no clue who was going to win until the very end. It was a very close game.
| |
#3 -- | If you wanna rule the playground, you have to master your game. The word out on the street is that one of these days, if you're lucky, you too can learn the "hotdog howto" from +Anathema+.
| |
#4 -- | If you wanna scare the living $@&!@ out of your opponent gangs, simply use a few DTs and build right inside their base, right on top of their ramp. This is quite detrimental to your opponent's success :)
| |
#5 -- | The reason this game was so close is because both gang leaders knew what was going all over the map. If you wanna compete with the big dogs, you MUST expand your network of spies so that you too can know what's going on around the rest of the map. (In simple terms this means, if you wanna win, scout constantly.)

Ok, there's my first shot at a battle report. I didn't expect to write one, but I started taking pics during the game, and it turned out to be one of the most excellent games I've seen. I'd spend even more time messing with it, but frankly I'd rather see people's response to this one... BLUE wins this recess, but wait until next time...BROWN will be back.
Do me a favor and email me any comments.
