Each week MOTWR brings you battlereports from Blizzard's map of the week so you can see and learn of it. Hopefully it will get people to try them. This report is image intensive so please take the time to load the pictures.

Indigo waters is a 2-6 player map which requires Brood war to play. It is 256x192 in size so it is fairly large. All the starting points are surrounded by walls and some expansion points are on high ground. We witnessed a four player FFA on this map which we are please to report to you.

The Players:

IceD_Tree
From the onset, it is clear he intends to rule this world, he puts up a pylon, gate and then expands to the west. He then puts up a second gate, a ccy-core and a citadel of adun. At the first engagement he is ready with templars and goons and a third expansion this time northwest of his main.

Headless_Clown
Randomed as protoss, he was dealt an ill hand by fate which placed him in the center of the map. He immediately expanded east, and the focused his build on getting 3 robotics facilities, a support bay and a observatory. When first blood is spilled he is ready with reavers and shuttles and also a third expansion.

DoomDragon
Drawing the bottom right corner, his build consist of an early pool, then Overlord. He expands fairly early to the west. Ready with zerglings and hydras around the time of contact, he also has morphed a queen's nest.

[Purple]Jim
Depot and rax then 3 more depots is his build. He gets 2 factories and then expands to the west as well, the last one to do so. When the first shots ring out, his troops consist of M&Ms and tanks. He kills time by having his marines do a little hunting.

Chapter one: Ice Age.

The first blood is spilled when Doomdragon sends lings to assault Clown's middle expansion. His lings manage to kill a zealot, and a reaver before expiring. He sends some as well to Iced_tree's main where they fall easily to canons and zealots. Meanwhile, Jim curses as he tries to comsat this unknown map and gets little info.

Iced_tree sends zealots to Jim's expansion where they kill a tank and some marines before falling to arclite fire. At this point, both Headless and Iced_tree are neck and neck with 3 expansions each while the others have two. Doom dragon expands to the north while sending more lings to harass Clown's expansion ostensibly to conceal his move. He then sends queens to parasite the reavers he ran into. Ice_tree expands yet again right to the west of clown's main. Clown sends reavers to deal with that but he is repelled by a mix of goons and zeals with some good storms by ice.

This proves to be a bad decision for Clown as his main his almost immediately dropped on by Jim who brings 3 dropships full of tanks and vultures. Jim, who had expanded to the top west corner, really lays the smack down on Clown who loses a shit load of probes in the process before managing to repel Jim with more reavers and dragons.

IceD_tree is now firmly ahead thanks to the setback suffered by Headless_Clown. He then consolidates his power by bowling over Jim's top corner expansion with two waves of goons and crippling clown's first expansion with a swarm of goons and temps. There is a brief hope that the scvs and medics will repel the invaders in the top corner and it does indeed take a while before the expansion finally falls and ice takes it for his own.

Both IceD_Tree and Doom dragon both send lines of troops to each others bases and they almost miss each other. A simultaneous frays ensues both on the road and at Iced's expansion. Good use of storm wins the day for ice's road war but suffers a set back at his exp and uses the arbiter's cover to save his probes from certain death. He takes back the spot using goons and temps again. Doom dragon's attention is diverted by a reaver drop from Clown on his newest expansion leaving ice time to breathe and regroup

He doesn't take long to impose himself again this time recalling goons inside Clown 's main. Clown had been busy making an air force and he had carriers and sairs with reavers thrown in. But his carrier fleet is still too young to be able to do anything so he lets his main fall, keeping his carriers alive for another day.

Ice_tree also intercepts in transit a force of marines and medics sent by [Purple]Jim to take back the top left corner. Storm once again comes true and even [Purple]Jim admits storm is sexy.

DoomDragon sends whopping 8 ultras to bang on ice's front door while at the same time [Purple]Jim decides no more walking for his troops and loads MMs in two dropships that accompanied by wraiths attack the top right corner expansion. Maybe DoomDragon was busy macroing his base but some of his ultras end up following a lone zealot that makes his way around the various bases that Ice has.

That's when the others think that its high time that the ice age be over. Loading up a major army in his overlords DoomDragon makes a massive drop on iced_tree's main , [Purple]Jim sends Medics and marines en masse to the top corner to take it for good and Headless_Clown, who has a fully fleet of carriers now, attacks the middle expansion. Good use of dark swarm by DoomDragon neutralizes ice's goons and he is forced to look on as his main falls. Everyone joins in a triple gang-rape of Ice that sounds the death toll of the Ice Age.

Chapter two: The jester's gambit

.
Having forgotten him for awhile, the other players were kind of taken aback by the power of Headless_Clown's carrier fleet. He wastes no time in attacking [Purple]Jim's main with his fleet leaving doomdragon to finish crippling ice. [Purple]Jim throws everything including the kitchen sink on his defense and manages to discourage Headless_Clown from further invasion.

Even though he has lost all mining possibility, IceD_Tree maintains a pretty good war chest as he is still able to field wave after wave of dragoons to bug dragon. DoomDragon is desperately trying to find a expansion to mine as he is also mined out. Headless_Clown's also attempts a foray into DoomDragon's territory and begins a pitched battle for the center-east expansions which can be still mined. [Purple]Jim, meanwhile, Mops up what remains of ice and leaves a few buildings standing at ice's request so he can watch the show.

Though is carrier fleet is massive, Headless_Clown is unable to lay down the law on either of the two remaining contenders. One of his fleets dies to to a mix of mutes hydras and devourers while [Purple]Jim's wraiths knock out one of his assimilators and generally make themselves a nuisance.

Chapter three: King James.

DoomDragon has massive swarms and Headless_Clownstill has a lot of airpower, yet the two are involved in a battle of attrition for the top right starting point. Even though his wraith squadron is wiped out during an attack on clown, [Purple]Jim still stays King of his castle resisting all attempts from Headless_Clown to break him while building a strong ground army of gols, tanks, ghosts, and marines. Of the three he appears to have the strongest chances coming out on top due to his buildup. His reign is short lived however because he replaces his fleet of wraiths with valkyries not knowing the DoomDragon is defeating Headless_Clown with mostly ground troops.

Chapter four: Time of DOOM

DoomDragon has just won the top starting point leaving Headless_Clown next door with a non-mining base. He decides to take the fight to [Purple]Jim who has also decided to send forces to stop DoomDragon's mining. The forces meet on the way but [Purple]Jim's marines run into a line straight into DoomDragon's ultralisks who then proceed to mash his remaining attack force and proceed to [Purple]Jim 's main to bowl him over. All that remains for DoomDragon is to mop up the map of the remaining bases and while token resistance is given by Headless_Clown in the form of an archon, GGs are exchanged and the day belongs to DoomDragon.

Comments on the map.

All players said they would play this map again if given the opportunity. Our feelings here at MOTWR is that 1 V 1 is too little for this map but it would make for an entertaining 2 v 2 or 3 v 3.
