In my last installment, I had two games in which I beat a terran opponent. This time, the fates handed me terran. Will I be slapped around like the hairless monkey I am? Or will I stick a spider mine right up his protoss arse with some heavy metal action a la Heartcutter?
Map - Lost Temple
AngylOfDeath - Random Terran
][Dark~Shin][ - Chosen Protoss
Ok, I got Terran. Not all is lost. I hear there's this thing called heavy metal and that it works pretty good against Protoss. I'll give it a shot. So I end up getting the 3:00 start and he ends up at 6:00. I start up SCV production and build a depot on 8 at the ramp, preparing for a wall-in. I continue with SCVs to 11 and build a rax, then refinery soon after. I scout with the SCV who built the depot and, because I'm a pimp and didn't want good scouting data, I found him in the last place I looked. Well, lucky me. His choke wasn't blocked and I got a good look anyway. Hmm...1 gate, a spinning cyber core, and another gate warping. Neurons start firing and tell me that this is a fast, range-upped goons build. I build a 4th marine at the ramp just in case he starts knocking before my mines are ready. He comes soon after with a pair of goons. My 3 marines did pretty well, killing 1 and severely injuring the 2nd (he danced a little). The 4th marine pops out and finishes the job. Heh, wall-ins own.
I have 2 factories ready, and 2 vultures prepping with mine upgrade researching. I get 4 and go wandering about laying 4 on my ramp as a deterrent to DT and then mining his canyon. I get 3 more and then start researching siege and send an SCV to build an eng. bay down in his part of town. He sends about 6 goons at my vultures but the mines keep him from pushing too hard after he lost a pair. I siege up the tanks and spot with the bay, but he's not at the choke. Damn, he's got his goons a bit back so my tanks can't hit him. I send about 3 more tanks and some more vultures down, when I notice a shuttle at my offensive. He drops a few zealots right on top of my tanks and manages to kill 1 before falling to concentrated vulture fire (and a spider mine). I take this opportunity to expand b/c I figured he probably took an island with his shuttle.
I figured wrong as my 2 scouting firebats (don't ask why I used bats, I just happened to have them lying around) found that he had taken the 9:00 main for an expansion. This isn't such a bad idea vs. terran because turbo newbie owns those cliffs. But I have him contained so he can't defend it right? Wrong. He proceeds to beat my pansy ass down with about 8 zealots, 4 goons, and a dark templar (he had observers of course). Why? Because I was slacking. I had an expansion, but I didn't add more factories and money was piling up a bit. I reroute the 2 tanks that were moving down to reinforce the siege and place them on my cliff and start working on 2 more factories as well as a starport and armory. My now 4 tanks hold off his leftovers and he retreats to a position outside my natural. I start scanning everywhere and see that he hasn't taken the island yet, nor his natural. At least expansions are even.
Now I have 4 factories and a pair of dropships. I notice that he doesn't seem to have that many troops and suspect reaver drop. I have 1 tank sieged at my command center and a turret, but no bunker. I lay a bunch of spider mines in likely drop zones, but to no avail. The drop comes and he kills my tank and turret, but unfortunately for him, he was a little too close to my factories and the 4 tanks that popped out quickly dispatched the intruders. My wraith takes care of the shuttle that lingered around just a little too long as well.
Time to counter his expansion and regain map control. I load up 3 tanks and 2 goliaths and drop his expansion, but his reflexes are pretty good and he manages to get his probes out of the way quickly. Defenses were light as he only had a pair of cannons. I siege up getting both cannons and the assimilator, but don't manage to finish the nexus as all the units that were previously in the middle came to rescue the expansion. I kill a ton of goons with the tanks as I had my dropship spotting, allowing me to rip on the goons as they came up the ramp (9:00 position remember). But eventually he gets me out. Taking advantage of the fact that all of his units moved to his expansion, I quickly move out 8 tanks, a number of goliaths and a science vessel to take the middle that he vacated. When he comes back, he finds that he just lost control of the middle as well as a large portion of his army before retreating.
I expand to the 12:00 start and the top left island, while continuing to pump tanks and goliaths. I'm also scanning everywhere out of 2 comsat stations and see that he's pumping more zealots, goons, and high templar. Goliaths do a pretty good job on zealots and I prefer them to vultures because it discourages corsair or carriers.
Well it's all but over, but we continue to skirmish as I gradually push him back into his base (there is a pic of my push at the end). I irradiate a bunch of templar (4 or so)during this time as well. I lose my 12:00 expansion to a bunch of goons that managed to evade my push, but ignore it as the game's practically over. My factory units hit 3-3 and I decide that the time is right. I siege his canyon again and ferry tanks up to the high ground with some dropships. And that was all she wrote. He said gg and left after losing a pair of gateways. Good stuff. | | Battle Shots! | Me securing the middle...I think it's secure =)
Final stats (more even than I thought it would be)
