A long week of school was done and there were two days for me to hang with friends, watch a little TV, and of course, play some BroodWar. On Friday night I had stayed up until 2:00 am and then I slept in until about 11:00, so I was well rested. I at breakfast, did some chores around the house, and then sat down at my computer and logged on to Battle.Net.
I immediately entered NoHunters. I always go here, as I can always find several people that
are fun to chat with. But, to my disappointment, the room was almost empty, so I started an FFA, which are now my favorite type of game.
I ended up sitting around for a couple minutes, but soon two people entered my game, and we started.
The game was on Lost Temple, the usual standard for games that I play. I chose Protoss and ended up at 6:00 and was Blue. I can't remember my opponents name so I just call them by color. White ended up at 9:00 with Zerg, and Brown started up at 12:00 with his chosen Terrans under his command.
I started a build that I have been doing lately. Pylon on 7, Gateway on 9 and the Probe scouts, Assimilator on 10, and another Gateway on 12. My Probe found that Zerg looked to be going for a turtle and tech strategy because he had a Hatchery at his choke making Creep Colonies which would probably become Sunkens, and an Evolution Chamber going up for Spore Colonies. I hurried out and looked at 3:00 before 12:00 and when I got to 12:00 I found that the Terrans had constructed a Marine filled Bunker at his choke and my loyal Probe died.
At home I was busy. Several Probes were happily mining gas and minerals and several Zealots stood guard at my choke point. A Forge had just warped in, and Photon Cannons were being placed for defensive purposes. A Cybernetics Core was also being started for Dragoons and then the Tech to Psi Storm and Reavers, as they both perform well against Terran or Zerg.
The first probing attack against my defenses came in the form of 8 Zerglings trying to run past my Zealots. Half were lost going past my Zealots, and the other half were lost from the attacks of Photon Cannons. I decided it was time for me to test the defenses of the Terrans, since as far as I knew, he had done nothing. I ran up 8 Zealots to his choke and hurried up. I thought that if I could run them past the bunkers all of them could attack and therefore get more damage. 2 of them died during the run up and the rest injured, but they did manage to take down a Bunker and 4 Marines before they lost their lives to Gauss fire.
During the attack, I had the rest of my Zealots as well as a Probe make their way over to my natural and set up Pylons and Cannons. After my defenses were well set, I warped in a Nexus. When it was complete I transferred some Probes w/ cloning. I placed a Dragoon and I High Templar up on the cliff in the chance that I might get attacked by units going after my Probe line.
By now I had 3 High Templars with Psi Storm as well as 2 Reavers in a speed-upgraded Shuttle. I decided it was time for me to attack. I headed left and up slightly to the bottom of White's base and was surprised when there was an opening left by the carelessness of the Zerg. Several Creep colonies were at the ready, but something must have distracted him. A quick "Damnit Brown!" gave me my answer and I charged in. I landed my reavers and started Psi Storming his drones. Several Hydralisks charged in to save the precious workers, but were easily cut down with simultaneous Scarab shots and a Psi Storm.
But it wasn't much of a victory for me. A pair of Queens charged in and Spawned Broodlings on 2 of my High Templar and the other was cut down by splash damage when the Reavers attacked the Broodlings. But I knew that White had felt the sting of my blow.
I reloaded my Shuttles with my Reavers and knew that I wouldn't be able to come back into his base that way again because Spore Colonies were presently being morphed.
I looked back home to see how I was doing. My main was mined out so I transferred a Shuttle load of Probes to the south east island and started a budding expansion there.
I had just finished warping in an additional gateway as well as a pair of Stargates when I suddenly heard Arclite fire pounding on my Photon Cannons at my Expansion. I tapped the space bar and saw 4 Siege Tanks bunched up within Cannon range. My Photons were being pummeled though, and my Zealots moved out to Engage. Brown didn't have enough sense to manually target the High Templars and I got off a Psi Storm just as my Zealots got there and the Tanks were crushed moments later.
I knew that White was now the weakest opponent in the game so I decided to turn my attention to Brown. He had showed with the attack on my base that he lacked the micro management to attack my High Templar and I figured that he would show the same clumsiness in a defensive situation.
I gathered together a full group of Dragoons, A full group of Zealots, 4 Archons and 2 Shuttles of Reavers for an assault on his base, as well as 2 speed/sight upgraded Observers. I grouped outside of his base and then charged in. Zealots went first, then Archons, the Dragoons, and my Reavers were on a mission elsewhere on the map. When he pulled all of his forces out of his base, I dropped my 4 Reavers in the back of his base pummeling on his SCV's, which surprisingly still hadn't mined out his main. There were no Turrets their either. (Don't you just love it when things go your way?).
During the attack, I queued up several Dragoons and Templars as I knew that White might decide it was time for a counter-attack.
Browns expansion quickly fell to my army, and they moved up Browns ramp and cut through his defenses like a hot knife through butter. I did take some severe losses but Brown was now out of the game and I assumed that White wouldn't take much either. After I had destroyed Browns last building, he gave me and White a "Good Game" and left.
I moved what was left up my forces to the outskirts of Browns expansion at his secondary natural. I did manage to take out all the Sunkens there but died when over a dozen Hydralisks poured in. At home I had another full group of Dragoons, A full group of Zealots, and my Shuttled Reavers. There were also ready with an pair of Arbiters. I swung my Aribters up around White and came in at the top of his natural. I cast Recall and managed to get all of my force except for a couple Zealots. I unloaded my Reavers and Stasised the incoming force of Hydralisks. At home I had a group of High Templar doing nothing so I waited for a little bit of energy and Recalled them as well, and Psi Stormed when the Hydralisks were freed from their Stasis.
White said that he had no more minerals left and only some Zerglings left so he said "GG" and left the game.
I didn't really learn anything in this game that I didn't already know, but I can tell you that High Templars and Reavers are a really good combination when faced with Terrans or Zerg. They work okay with Protoss too, but are not as effective. Also, Aribters rule. I think that Arbiters are probably the least used Protoss unit. Right now High Templars and Reavers are possible, as new school grows, they get used more and more. But Arbiters are good for Recall and Stasis Field, as they can surprise and disable the opponent.
Kudos to my opponents and a game well played by both of them. |
