Lifetime Rating for Flint79: 6.3714 |  | Pre-Game: I went into nohunters and found nobody but Holy himself. He offered a 1 vs 1 game. This was my next big step...I've only had Brood War a week and am still trying to get to know the ladder maps. Needless to say I was scared...but I figured...gotta start somewhere. I told you I was gonna use that title Holy ;) .
Map: Temple
Me: Zerg (Spawned bottom middle)
Him: Terran (Spawned mid Left)
I seven pooled and sent out a scout party early....found him at last possible area. just my luck ;). I put a few lings to defend the ramp (That took me forever to find) and went for Hydra drop while expanding to my gimmie. He found my gimmie expansion early and took it out with M&M. Grrrrr. I had a real bad feeling about this game. I started pumping Hydras like mad and took out his force with Lurkers and Hydras. I was pissed because I knew he must have already expanded. This set the stage for my defeat.
I expanded to my gimmie again...bring down most of my guys to protect the expansion as I can't afford to lose it again. He then dropped 6 bats on my peon line. 2/3 fell to the flames before I droped the peoples elbow on the intruders. This did'nt really get to me...but it was a good delaying tactic. I then noticed that tanks were on the cliff of my gimmie...and the bombed the shit outta my expansion (AGAIN!). Oh my God...this was sooo not looking good and he is soooo f*uckin fast at doing this stuff and building up.
There was a dreaded pause in the game..what was next? I decided to take the offensive and I spotted his mass depots in his main base. I dropped about 12 hydra on it plus about 3 lurkers. This did considerable damage and he later told me his supply was like 28/74 (may be the other way around...but it was bad) or something like that...but it was too little too late. He had Tanks/Wraiths in what seemed like a milli-second. The tank push I feared from the start finally happened and I was defeated. I managed to expand once but that was also too little...too late. He did a good job at not letting me move at all while expanding himself. The whole game was him on offense.
I think I did ok for my first 1 vs 1 ladder map game and the fact I've only had BW for a week and Starcraft for 3 weeks :) . We won't even discuss the Toss vs Zerg game that followed...where upon I started wicked...but ended poor...so very poor. I've been only playing Zerg the last while and I was so bad with Toss. Do you pros mix up your races or only really use one race? I need direction in my Starcraft summer career before my 2nd year of Canadian University...where upon I will be drunk of my ass most of the time :) .
Lessons Learned:
Play people your own relative skill level...lol
Gotta build faster and secure my expansions damnit.
Being on Defence all the time blows...gotta counter that
How did some of you older players get started on ladder maps and train for them to get really good? Did you just get spanked enough to get good or what? I want some comments here damnit.
BTW: I later learned that Holy is 13 years old...I'm 19. I should give that kid a spanking for beating up on your elders at Starcraft ;) . Nothin like only losing once since I got BW and getting German suplexed twice in a row...the pain..the pain. I think I'm gonna play the ladder maps against newbie pubbies to get better...then make another appearance for a 1 vs 1 in nohunters. GG Holy. I'm gonna go get some team action in nohunters...so I'm not always the center of attention :D . |
