Prologue:
It was a long night of playing poker and even an earlier morning of being awakened by my cats. But instead of executing the feline sleep assassins like a good general I decided to log on to Bnet to find some worthy fodder. Like most mornings Bnet is rather dead except for people exchanging taunts and bad advice. Mostly the latter... when this Protoss praetor declares the Terran species an inferior child-like race. Well that’s a call to arms if I’ve ever heard one. Invitations to death were quickly exchanged and accepted.
Opening Moves:
I decided on a smaller map; one befit my mood. Cold and nasty... Ice Flows it is with my CC landing on the Northern plateau and the Nexus warping to the southern one. Say your prayers to Auir.
There are three things I fear in the early game from the Toss. The mass zealot rush, goon pushes with their extended range and the insidious dark templar. I quickly do a 7 rax, 8 scout, 9 depot build wallin. Let the high ground be my ally. My scout sits by his front door. 1 and then 2 gateways go up before a zealot comes knocking. Zealot rush it is. Up goes the 2nd rax at home and an academy. Stim, medics and firebats are going to be served piping hot from my bunkers.
With a ComSat station coming online at my CC I start pumping bats and replace the marines in my bunker with the fire lovers. A quick scan shows 3 gateways churning out zeals... this is going to be a rush since I don’t see any cyber core. Time for stim and a factory.
Feint and Counter:
Just as I get 4 bats all nestled in their bunker with the ranged medarines behind them up the ramp rushes a load of zealots with cries of death. My warriors held their ground with even the civilian SCV driver doing his cause keeping the bunker intact. 8 dead Auir warriors and just a burning bunker to show for it. The bats like it hot anyway so I grab the medarine units and go on a quick scout to prevent my enemy from expanding. The middle was clear and the bottom left too. I need to keep the toss away from the gas otherwise it’s game over for me. Out rolls the first of many siege tanks and then I switch to vulture construction in hopes of containing the toss. I drop a mine to extend my tank vision, 1 on the main path to my main and the last in the centre. I must have been dead asleep because I hear “You’re under attack.” My enemy has sneakily took the middle maybe seconds after I scouted it. This doesn’t make me feel warm and toasty.
I quickly decide that if that was me I would Maynard transfer my probes to that new base. So it’s offensive bunker time just outside his main. Up goes the bunker and turret and out comes the probes right on queue. After punching 4 probes first class tickets back to Auir my opponent realises my move and stops the Maynard transfer. I have time so I expand to the mineral only patch the left and start working on sci vessels and drop ships. My opponent presses the attack against my o-bunker in 3 waves. Once destroying it but my trusty SCV rebuilds just in time. Finally my o-bunker is destroyed and I retreat the medics and lone SCV to my new expansion to my right. They have bought me some valuable time and they can R&R for the short while. I start a tank push to the left of the middle expansion to remove his gas production and I move to the nastiest of Terran weapons: the nuke. I siege up the tanks and eliminate his middle gas. Just as the Arclite cannons reverberate with each concussion I launch a nuclear strike to his expansion peon line. No gas, no minerals from his first expansion. I call that progress.
Lock and Load:
I push into the middle base but I am slowed by the appearance of a wave of dark templar. Good thing I upgraded the infantry armour. Gives those Toss busters half a chance. A couple scans eliminate the threat and I send two sci vessels to provide better detection. As I rally the troops to end the middle expansion I set down another silo and scan the other two possible expansions. Both reveal Nexuses... my foe is not going down easy. I order two ghosts to head into the Southern realms. One cloaked unit deserves another. I load two transports for a drop on the left expansion. Remove the gas and remove the Toss threat. I punch up the launch code and two nukes scream out into the night. Take that from a child-like race. As the dust clears on the left expansion the 2 drop ships unload their cargo of medarines and siege tanks. That expansion is sent back to Auir the way all Terrans like to see.
Simultaneously, I push the middle again and launch 2 waves of medarines against the right expansion. With no more defenses it quickly falls even with the help of several corsairs, dweb and scouts. Lockdown is a marvellous tool.
Final Chapter:
I’m out of minerals in my main so I know he’s hurting. I send in a flight of wraiths on a mission. They quickly spot the observatory and start razing it to the ground. A shimmer of cloak and a wing of corsairs fly in to greet the valiant wraith pilots. Scan and take out the observer... those corsairs aren’t so tough when they can’t see. Have a safe trip back to Shakuras! Right beside the observatory is the forge. Better clear that out too... and set up another o-bunker on his door step. No more expanding. This Toss is going down. I shuttle in a cloaked ghost to his back door and bring up one to his front. Time to give this toss a gamma radiation tan. Double nuke and double expand... where is that fat lady? I want to request a song. Emp to the nexus and another nuke... game over the Terran way. Look me up the next time you’re in the mood for some home cooking Toss boy. Just remember I deliver.
Lessons Learned:
Cats are really evil incarnate.
As a Terran don’t be a turtle. If you control the pace of the game it really throws off many opponents who expect a passive, defensive Terran.
Nukes are your friend. Best launched with a bit of distraction and a good dose of deceit. |
