I was looking forward to this game. He advertised it as 1300+, so I said 'Hey, a real challenge.' We both selected and started our game.

I followed my standard 8depot, rax, rax, 3 more depot, academy build. My scouting was less than fruitful, as I found him in the last place I looked. He was able to scout my base with a probe which should have been killed by my 2 marines. The marines let me down, and he got a really good peek. I was also able to do a little scouting of my own and saw triple gateway with cyb core spinning (it means he's getting the range upgrade for mass goons, in case you don't know). There were also 2 zels on my SCV, but Deon Peon scouted the day and came through with the info. He even made it back alive...

So he's going goons. I can deal. I get a bunch of marines and some meds and get ready to knock on his door. He's up cliffside with range upgrade, so I'm not coming through the front door. I retreat back to my base and chill. Started an expansion at my natural at this point. If he comes knocking, my marines will kick his teeth in.

I do another scan and see the Bay and Facility, and think 'Ok drop time'. Get my factory online, for tanks. Build a bunker and a turret near my CC's, and fill it with 3 marines and a firebat each. Got my tanks and lodged one up in the little nook of each of the CC's. He wasn't going to win with any little drop. It was going to take more than a shuttle with a reaver and 2 DT to kill me.

What he does next is nothing short of brilliant. I have about 24 marines/meds sitting in my natural, doing a little guarding, when all of a sudden, 10 of them go up in a reaver shot. He walked the damn slug into my natural. Great play. Real bad for me. He cuts off a second shot and gets another 6. I get the survivors out of there posthaste. I never saw the reaver, but I assume that the defending tank at my expansion tore it up.

I see "gg", and about 15 dragoons come barreling into my natural. I'm no slouch, and I've been through much worse.
They're working on the bunker and the tank, and I'm desperately pulling the scv's back to the ramp. Another siege tank is sitting on the ramp (unsieged), so he gets involved as well. I also have another tank sitting at the cherry spot on my main plateau. As long as he doesn't make it up the ramp, that tank will punish the goons.

Thats the stuff...

The surviving marines go balls out against the goons trying to climb the ramp. There was only probably 5-6 of them, but they carried the day. Blue soup for everyone. He withdrew. I still had about 6 scvs, 3 marines, the expansion CC (which was hovering over the cliff, slowly burning up), 3 tanks in various flavors of damage, with reinforcements coming from the 2 rax and the 1 factory (new SCVs from my main CC were rallying to the natural). IMHO, I won that skirmish. Not because I won out on resources (I didn't, that's for sure), but because I had 1 1/2 bases to his 1 base. He'd have to expand in the near future to catch up.

So I re-secure everything, get another comsat up and charged, and set up some serious 'don't mess with me' action at the front of my base with 3 sieged tanks, a horde of marines and a turret.

Well, he messes with me. And while I lost some tanks, I was able to come out ahead in that exchange. I order up another factory. I also push ahead and begin another CC (I've got way too many minerals at this point). Dropship being built.

So now I have a formidable force and I start toward his base. I have a group of 12 marines, a group of 4 SCVs some meds and some more marines, 8 tanks. I'm going to start pushing. And I run into Dragoon central. Roughly 20-25 goons are waiting for my guys. Storm tears up my lead marines. This is bad. So I head back and the goons follow. And I crush them like little bugs. I'm going to need ghosts to back me up.

To abbreviate things, I get ghosts, expand to my 2nd natural, kill a whole shitload of dragoons (pictures speak louder than words). He almost busts through, killing my 2nd natural, but ghosts are able to lockdown over 6 goons, for easy cleanup by my marines. This display of micro also probably scared the shit out of him.

I rebuild, try to turbo newbie 3 times (repulsed each time).
Eventually I start pushing on his 2nd natural, nuke near his main twice (targetting his main force with a ghost actually inside the group, but he saw the dot each time). I also got a decent nuke off at the mouth of his natural.

He expands to 12:00 and the natural at 12 (This could have been really bad). I attack with marines and meds, get butchered by DT and goons (but a lone cloaked ghost survives). I nuked the 12:00 natural from the 12:00 plateau (killing about 30 probes, no lie), then proceed to nuke the probes at the 12:00 start, bringing his production to a standstill. I also expand to the bottom right island.

I really like ghosts v. protoss.

I eventually M&M at the 12:00 start and solidify the area outside his main with about 8-10 tanks. At this point his resources run dry and calls it 'gg' for real this time. The ending stats stated that he out resourced me, out produced me and outspent me. Marines baby, no matter who you're fighting, it's all about marines.

The game took an hour and was really intense. Finally someone who doesn't just depend on an 'unbeatable' build order to DTs.

Here are some screen shots to enjoy.

Soup anyone? This was the defense action after my first tank push

Whoa nelly! More of those little soup spiders. This attack was also repulsed. He was never able to completely clear me out of the center.

For all my fighting, I was never able to scale that cliff. But I did the next best thing by sieging next to the cliff wall and using the Sci Vessel to spot. It was just a war of attrition. The place where goons came to die.
