Opponent: SLOWCANNON->picked Terran in the last second

It was the first time for me to play Rivalry, but I just play for the fun of it anyway (look at my ladder stats boaaah). So I joined this 1 on 1 and hoped to have a good time. Well, I had :-)

My Nexus warped in at the top left, while the CC of SLOWCANNON landed bottom left. I warped in a pylon with my 7th drone and sent it to recon. While it was on the way, my peons mined happily away and warped in a gateway. The scouting peon finally found the terran base and reported heavy bunkering activity at the chokepoint. The peon was ordered to build a pylon out of sight of the bunkers for cannon containment. In the same time a forge was ordered to warp in near my nexus. Zealots were sent to the containment area to protect the warping pylon. As soon as forge and pylon finished, some cannons were on the way. Things started out nicely...

Now as the cannons were done, I warped in a gateway at the containment area. Then I sent a Zealot near the ramp to lure some marines to my cannons and to look if there were any missile turrets (you guess why). The marines died and I saw there are no turrets yet. Fine. Dark Templar production rolled on. The first 2 of them were sent up the ramp, but he had a turret and a comsat ready, as well as sieged tanks. My DTs died after taking out one turret and one tank. What a pitty.. now this was not nice any more.

I kept my DTs in the base and in the containment area for defense, and started dragoon production, 2 high templar, psi storm and an exe. The tanks of SLOWCANNON were happily destroying my cannons in the meantime. This was really bad, but they could only reach about 50% of them and the gateway was out of reach anyway. But my starting advantage was gone and the terrans were gaining terrain.

As I feared cloaked wraiths, I teched to observers, while finsihing the production of my first dragoons and the templar. Now things started to turn against me. He did a nice M&M drop on my exe which was only guarded by 2 or 3 cannons. I ordered my dragoons there for backup and they suceeded in killing the terran strike force, but not before my cannons, my drones and my nexus were gone. Sh... I started to set up the exe again, leaving my dragoons there.
Of course this was the time for the terran forces to attack my main with 2 shuttles worth of M&M. I only had 2 DT, 2 Templar and 1 newly produced dragoon there. As the templar were hotkeyed, I managed to kill nearly all the forces with 2 nice psi storms before they could do much damage. Can you imagine what would have happened without them? *shudder*

As my expansion was back full speed, my economy was really going nicely and I pushed on dragoon production, upgrades and started 4 stargates and soon a fleet beacon. My obeservers were hovering above most of the resource spots and in the middle of the map by now. They detected a terran expansion in the lower right corner, which was already secured with bunkers and turrets. I was also running low on minerals in my main and expanded again to the top right.
While I did all this there were more attacks to fend off, like more drops and some cloaked wraith, but I really can't remember all those small skirmishes. I was hellish close to being destructed several times though, because my major plan was to defend with dragoons and templar while heavily producing carriers...

The first 4 of them were sent on a strike mission to the backdoor of the terran expansion, while nearly a dozen dragoons knocked on the front door. Well, the dragoons were torn apart by tanks and bunkers, but they managed to damage the ring of defense by destroying some tanks and some bunkers. The carriers did some decent damage, but 2 were locked down by ghosts, the other 2 were EMPed by a SCIV and all were shot down by marines and wraiths finally. The terran commander made use of my suspected lack of troops and assaulted my top right expansion. He did quite well and nearly finished it of completely before my newly produced dragoons and 3 carriers saved the day.

I planned a new assualt on his only expansion, because if I would be able to stop his resources I would eventually win. So I made my spare 4 DT to Dark Archons ( had developed mind control already), upgraded my carriers, which were 2/2/2 now and produced dragoons and carriers like crazy.

He really was turtled in quite nicely (terrans are really good with that...), but as I already described he also had quite some offensive tactics, too. We had fought countless small and medium battles and he often enough razed my expansions. It was a really challening and intensive game.

But back to the action: strike time!
To begin with my 2 Dark Archons mind controled 2 siege tanks, which started wreaking havoc on the missile turrets before the terran commander managed to bring them down. I used this confusion to attack with my dragoons at the front door and with my carrier fleet (I think 8-10) at the place where the tanks struck. As a small backup I had 4 corsairs which dwebbed some bunkers. The attack was rolling nicely and my forces managed to nearly fight their way towards the CC leaving nothing but rubble. But the Terran commander showed showed some heavy skills again and without panicking managed to shoot down and destroy a good portion of my carriers and all my dragoons. I had to make a tactical retreat ;-). But only for 2 minutes, some newly produced carriers arrived on the scene... I had spotted a nuclear silo on the CC and so I was really in a hurry to destroy the remaining building of this expansion spot.

There was not much opposition any more and the cleanup began. As I was working on the last 2 bunkers of the expansion and even more carriers arrived from my main, the victory was obviously mine!! Yeah, it was hard work and a great game. Loved it! This terran commander surely did some nice work....you guess what come next?

waiting for player SLOWCANNON...the seconds ticking away, he disconnected on me.

Well I had not expected this, because he did not seem to be a lamer, playing that skillfully and I always thought he was enjoing the game just as much as I did.

As it turned out, we both got a LOSS for this game and as I checked SLOWCANNON today on www.battle.net his record was 0/3/3, with a total of 4 games played. He actually had won is first game, but his opponent did a DISC and on all other 3 games he just did the same with a double LOSS every time.

Guess what? I was having a good time in this game and the LOSS does not bother me at all. I think I would even play this guy again. Ladder rating? bahhh, I only play ladder because the games are more challenging anyway .-)

The morale? dunno, tell me if you find one, hehe
