Round Two
The Psychic Hax0r
Map: Dire Straits
SC Style: Vanilla
Players:
Ioti - Bottom Left - Terran
Phoenix-S- - Top Right - Protoss

In the second match of a 3 part series, Ioti is itching to get revenge for his previous defeat. Both players agree to play on Dire Straits again, and some early game banter ensues. Ioti has drawn terran out of the random hat, and goes for a depot, while pumping out lots of SCVs, instead of building a barracks quickly. For this reason, Phoenix-S- has 2 gates and his cy. core started before Ioti has 1 barracks. Soon after, Ioti continues building in a tight pattern, and places his factory, along with a machine shop.
However, Ioti perhaps has not studied terran as much as he should have, as he is forced to tear down his machine shop and move his factory to make way for a comsat.

Ritual Intergalatic Redneck Suicide (RIRS for short).
Meanwhile, Phoenix-S- has warped a forge, and several cannons behind his mineral line, 'Guarding his Bread'. Soon after comes a citadel of adun, which would indicate templar soon. Across the misty waters, Ioti has become less than impressed with his economy, so does a CC float to the island directly to the north of him. As it flies, an engineering bay is built, and turrets appear both in his main and his expansion.

A smashing anti-air defence, which will soon be used as evidence of Ioti's hacks.
As Ioti gets this base up and running, Phoenix-S- builds a robotics factory, and a shuttle to scout with. Eventually this shuttle reaches Ioti's expansion, and as Phoenix-S- has not been paying enough attention to it, it perishes to mass turret fire.

This is the last thing the Protoss pilot sees before slamming headlong into the terran encampment.
Now, Phoenix-S- is not very impressed by the loss of his 1 and only shuttle, and proceeds to call Ioti a hacker.
| Phoenix-S-: You hacker! You knew my shuttle was going to that island so you build an expansion there! |
Everyone smiles, and Phoenix-S- holds a silent memorial for the braze shuttle pilot. Shortly after, he is held by grim resolve to win the battle. He decides to expand, and does so on the island to the south of him. He plants a nexus, assimilator, and several cannons on the island, and brings the base up to capacity.

The building of Phoenix-S-'s first expansion.
Ioti has an academy and comsat now, and scans Phoenix-S-'s base, finally getting an idea of what his opponent is doing. Seeing the fact that Phoenix-S- has an observatory, Ioti starts work 2 starports, and starts training wraiths. Soon after he builds a 3rd starport, and the most feared of terran buildings....

The birthplace for Bill Nye the Science Guy! (aka the science facility.)
On this 3rd starport, Ioti builds a control tower, and gettings cloaking ability for his wraiths. Phoenix-S- too has been teching up to air units, and now has 2 stargates. After a quick scan Ioti sees this, and gets an armoury to allow the production of goliaths.
Now, somewhere in this period, Ioti scouted with one of his wraiths to see if there were any nude exps out for a stroll in the lovely spring air. Phoenix-S- does the same with observers, and in a startling coincidence, the air units pose for a picture together.

Nice and close now..
| Ioti: Hmm.. there is something blurry on his lifebar... What could it be.. |
Ioti does a quick comsat, and almost manages to destroy the dreaded flying doorbell, but alas, it escapes with 2 life. So close and yet so far.
For a while, only minor skirmishes occur, with Phoenix-S- attempting to expand onto the upper left natural, but being cut down by cloaked wraiths. Ioti has been perfecting his tactics of observer hunting, and now has a fleet of wraiths and a science vessel careening across the map looking for trouble. One of the wraiths has 'Saturday Night's All Right For Fighting' stenciled on the tailfin. Top gun indeed. Now this group is fairly imposing, and the tiny observers' only advantage is the speed difference of the science vessel and the wraiths.

Bill Nye's (the SV's) voice is heard in the distance... wait up!!
This would have proven to be a good idea, as one of Phoenix-S-'s observers spots the massive fleet, and starts making for the state line. Bill Nye's keen eyesight picks up a trace of the probe on the edge of its vision, and soon the wraith fleet gives chase. However, at 25/75 a piece, Phoenix-S- is not prepared to lose his cloaked fly on the wall. With the agility of an Irishman dodging a police roadblock, the observer turns tail and runs.

Soon after, in a glorious blue-grey explosion, the observer is dead, and Phoenix-S-'s troops suffer a morale drop, while in the other camp wraith pilots are regaling the marines with the fantastic tale of the observer hunt. Ioti himself remarks on how much fun it was.

About now, Ioti decides to expand, and builds a CC on the left middle island, under the watchful eyes of a tank, and a couple wraiths. Also, climbing higher up the tech tree, Phoenix-S- builds a fleet beacon, and starts building carriers.

However, Ioti can not keep control of his still-ecstatic wraith pilots, and must attack Ioti's expansion. He flies in with 12 of the brave soldiers, and starts attacking probes. Unfortunately, in the wraith's excitement, they missed seeing the 3 grave templar patrolling the island. The 3 look at each other for a moment before they realize what must be done. The leader of the triad raises his hands in a psychic macarena, and...

Soon the overzealous wraiths have lost half their number, while inflicting only minor damage on Phoenix-S-'s expansion. In response to this attack, 5 of Phoenix-S-'s carriers float to Ioti's expansion on the island to the northeast of his base. They proceed to raze a couple turrets, but are forced to flee after losing 2 of their number to Ioti's sizable wraith force.
At this point, Ioti remarks something about the high winds that are blowing outside his house in real life, and pauses the game. I take this opportunity to grab some screens of various bases.

Phoenix-S-'s expansion, with the 3 aforementioned templar still on guard.

The back of Phoenix-S-'s main, with a robotics bay warping, and another stargate soon to start, putting the total to 4.

Ioti's tightly packed main.

The map at this point, with Ioti controlling the lower corner, and another exp about to start on the other middle island. Phoenix-S- has set his eyes on the bottom right natural, and is defending it with 2 carriers, and several ground troops.
At this point, I was asked what my general strategy on island maps was. I said, for terran, turtle up and hope that everything turns out ok (I'm not very good with terran) and toss, I have a healthy mix between templar and idiocy. To which Phoenix-S- replied:

About now, Phoenix-S- said with grim resolve: I AM going to expand. And I mean it. His nexus has finished warping in at the bottom natural, and with his increased economy he starts warping in bunches of scouts from his 4 stargates. His previously mentioned troops are standing an everlasting vigil at his new base as well, and all is going just fine. Or so it seems. Someone has snuck onto the island without the protoss watching.

The dreaded nuclear launch detected message materializes on Phoenix-S-'s screen, and he is terrified at the implications, as he can not find the dot. Ioti, having done this before, has hidden it beneath one of the carriers at Phoenix-S-'s expansion, and it is invisible. Shortly after a frantic search, Phoenix-S-'s base goes down, taking 3 carriers, 2 templar, and a few other units. On a scale of 1 to 10, Phoenix-S- is not impressed. He flies his whole fleet of scouts over to the island, and along with an observer, they track down and kill the offending ghost.
Thirsting for vengeance for their fallen breathern, the 12 scouts and 1 observer head off into the sunset to meet their destiny in the main terran encampment. After the scouts inflict minor damage on one of oti's supply depot, a fleet of wraiths arrive, and head directly at the observer, popping the droid almost instantly. From then on in, it is a bloodbath, with cloaking wraiths destroying the scout fleet quickly. With no detection, the scouts have no defense.
After this failed assault, Ioti follows up his nuke with some wraiths to eliminate the nexus on the bottom right natural island. The game has clearly turned in favour of Ioti, as Phoenix-S- is only mining from 1 base, and has very little in the way of troops. Phoenix-S- knows this as well, and gathers his forces of about 10-12 scouts, and a few shuttles full of templar and goons, and several observers for good measure and goes again for Ioti's main. The game has clearly lost it's status as a 'manner game'.
This battle looks like it will be very close, as Phoenix-S- has at least 3 templar in a shuttle waiting to unless storm after storm on the fairly unattractive purple wraiths. Ioti has guessed this from the shuttles, and has also realized that cloaking will be of no use, as Phoenix-S- is not the type of player to make the same mistake twice. However, Ioti has one final trump card to play. Just as Phoenix-S- unloads his templar, Bill Nye crams an EMP shockwave straight down the grinning energy being's throat, and zaps him of all his mana.
Bill Nye reminds us all once again, that Inertia IS a property of matter, despite what the dastardly conclave of protoss would have us all believe. With this advantage gone, the remaining Protoss troops are smashed back into the world they belong in, the one without real rules or physics. Get lost you strange creatures, this land is the new terran colony of New Texas. Now lets all listen to TNN and have a few drinks.
When this final crushing defeat has sunken into Phoenix-S-'s morale, he makes one last ominous comment. Ioti is a psychic hax0r. It's so obvious. With that, he smiles, and says gg. The second match of the 3 game series is over, and the two players meet back in the channel after a match very well fought.
Lessons Learned:
1) Terran can really turtle up from any kind of drop attack without gayweb, and can become near impregnable.
2) Bill Nye is one tough cookie, because he won the game for Ioti. (that's my story anyway.)
3) For those of you who are uneducated in the ways of high culture, Bill Nye is Bill Nye the Science Guy, who does a kids science show, made by Disney I believe. The reason he is the science vessel is because there is a map I helped make called Bill Nye Madness. (Very, Very funny, if I dare toot my own horn.)
Til Next Time,
