Mage vs. MacGuffen
I was waiting on Kali the other night for something to do I decided to try a battle report. About ten minutes later Mage said something about him making a game and the first one to join gets to play him. I immediately sent him a private message asking if I could watch and he said I could.

This is a best of four (??) series between players [TNT]Mage and MacGuffen.

Game 1:

Author: Davy

Map: KBK New Lost Temple v1.02

Players
Mage
Zerg

Observers
Davy

Mac
Zerg
ColdBladded
Both players begin by sending their drones to separate mineral patches and sending the first overlord to the others adjacent base.

Mage gets early gas and when completed takes four drones from mining minerals to collect vespene gas.

At this point Mac has already started morphing his second hatchery and soon after starts building his own extractor. When Mac's extractor is completed he only pulls three drones from mining which varies from Mage's four. Both Mac and Mage start their spawning pool at the same time.

Once the spawning pools are finished, one hatchery from each side is morphed into the more powerful form on a lair. Both players then use all their available larva to create zerglings.

As you can see, Mage has placed two overlords in Mac's base. Most likely to cause annoyance. Mac still has his overlord placed in Mage's base as well.

Once the zerglings are built each player immediately sends them to their ramp in case some one decides to attack. Mac has a total of ten zerglings at this point, while Mage only has 6.

Once the Lairs were completed, spires are immediately placed down. Due to Mage's stupid drone (like drone like player) that traveled around buildings instead of going the direct path, Mage's spire was 150 build points behind Mac.

The major change in gameply occurs here. Mac, unlike Mage, continues to spawn zerglings constantly through his hatcheries. Mage sits idle waiting for his spire to finish.

Then Mac makes his move. He sends around twenty-four zerglings to Mage's almost bare base. The only units of attack mage has is ten zerglings at his ramp. Remember that the spires are almost done at this point. Twenty four zerglings attacking followed up by mutas could be the finishing blow to Mage.

Mac slips and a few of his zerglings go up the ramp and are alert Mage of the attack. Mage gives up his ramp advantage and he retreats back to his main where the drones and zerglings can fight together.

Shown here is Mac's zerglings at Mage's base right after he forced Mage to cancel his spire by attacking it. As soon as the spire is canceled. Mage starts a hydralisk den and a spire at the same time. He knows that Mac's mutas will be arriving at any second.

Mac leaves his zerglings just outside of Mage's base. His spire is done and he knows that Mage is vulnerable. Mac has been smart and saved his larva. Immediately six larva are transformed into muta eggs.

The mutas arrive and Mac starts laying waste to Mage's main base. Here are the finishing battle shots.

Mac starts hitting the half-way completed spire first. He doesn't finish killing the spire due to some freshly hatched hydras that drive the mutas away.

Mage desparately tries to spread zerglings to recieve minimum damage from mutas while hydras try to drive them away.

This is the final battle between Mac's muta/zergling combo and Mage's hydra/drone combo. After a couple seconds of extreme micro by both sides, Mac is victorious.

Game1 Winner: Mac
