So for the sake of all the illiterate readers and also taking into account that this is mainly an English-speaking website, I have translated this factual occurrence in history from the Zerg tongue to English. I have also taken the time to replace the Zerg lingo with our own yet without changing the general meaning of the statement. You might notice some quotes above each segment of writing, these are from the Zerg literature chronicles or from famous speeches such as the traditional ‘Tiapese’ speech which is given before any major organized conflict. Each segment alternates between the Plebs (The zerglings, hydralisks, etc etc.) and the leaders, so you get both sides of the story. I will continue to post segments of the story here on BR.com and will go under the heading of ‘The Zergling Uprising!”. So without further ado I give you the tale of the Zergling uprising!
Careful planning is to go into every battle alongside the warriors no matter how small or large the task ahead is. Risk and luck must be incorporated into this plan, for without risk the battle would never start. Without luck, we are all doomed.
- from the ‘Manual of the Swarm’ by Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades.
In the week before the departure to Liak, when all the final scurrying about had reached a nearly unbearable frenzy, the elite of each zerg strand were summond to the chambers of their queen.
The air hung with anticipation, all were ready to spill blood and the tension showed. A few carcasses lay around the colony grounds, their murders lay dead beside them as a result of the punishment for their undisciplined actions. The few veterans of the group that had survived the taking of these grounds from the Terrans reminisced on the excitement they felt before their first encounter with war. They knew they could never go back to that care free mind set they recognized in all those who had not yet seen the battlefield, no matter how much they wanted to.
“We are about to move out and make a stand!” Kerrigans voice boomed across the chamber. All attention was fixed solely on her, partly in fear and partly in awe. “We are to leave here soon and the destination is Liak, a remote Terran facility outpost. This will be crushed leaving no survivors!” A roar erupted from the minions in absolute agreement. Kerrigan stopped it by raising her hand. ‘Such loyalty!’ she thought and smiled. “The Terran scum think us down and out! We will show them, you will show them!” There was a pause as Kerrigan looked over the sea of warriors before her, she continued. “Each and every one of you in this chamber has shown your skills and obedience to me. To reward you, I give you a gift,” and with that she stood down from her raised throne, took one last gaze at her fearless servants, and departed.
The Terrans attempt to formulate schemes to hold us at bay without understanding our nature, this is to attempt seeing truth without knowing falsehood. It is the attempt to see good without knowing evil, it cannot be. This is the first of many flaws in the Terrans tactics, a flaw that will be exploited!
- a segment of Kerrigans ‘Tiapese’ speech at the landing on Liak.
“My lady is feeling very generous today,” Sayakeen stated with underlying meaning between every word. ‘We will show them the might of the swarm,” a smug smile rippled across his face.
“You fool!” Kerrigan blurted out as she whirled around. Their eyes met, hers filled with fury, his with terror. “Are you oblivious to the facts that have been layed out before you? Numerous strike teams have infiltrated the Terrans base on Liak, most died but those that returned described a bleak picture. You think my gift generous? This was forced upon me! This is essiential! Now leave my sight, I do not wish to view you grotesque incompetence anymore.”
Nearly stumbling into Duran who was standing to the side of the main door, Sayakeen scampered away in a state of bewilderment not wishing to test the waters any further. The door closed behind him.
“Forgive me my Lady, but I don’t understand. Did not Sayakeen have reason to feel great confidence?” Duran questioned, eager to hear the wisdom of his mentor.
“Overconfidence is a consequence of a growing ego. An ego too large blinds the mind,” Kerrigan quoted. “We, Duran, must always look to the future. What we plant today we will reap tomorrow. We must put our leaders on the correct path today to avoid heartache in the future. He must learn to stay in line, an important lesson which results in death if failed.”
“Pour confidence into the body while keeping the head alert,” Duran stated from an old testimony, who’s he could not remember.
“Impressive, you still hold hope. You shine bright while those around fade away. The ability to stand strong while everything around you is falling to pieces is a quality I admire in you,” Duran’s face beamed with Kerrigans comments, but she continued. “Now go, and supervise my gift to the great warriors.”
“But my Queen, these upgrades are a very time consuming task, I…”
“These upgrades are essential! Do as I say.” The orders were clear and they weren’t about to be disobeyed. Duran left Kerrigan alone in her private chambers. “Overconfidence is a consequence of a growing ego. An ego too large blinds the mind,” she repeated to herself. “I should not have complimented him, not yet.”
This is only the first two segments and is a little short, but I plan to release bits little and often. I'm sorry for the lack of action but the this bit is just developing what happens later. So give me you views and suggestions and I hope you likes it. (Would you guys like to see pics in this fan-fic?) |
