Flaming Pikachu

Prologue:

Location: Planet Shakuras, Homeworld of the Dark Templar

The small corsair trailed flames as it hurtled through the twilight sky. It's pilot, Dark Templar Hsiatrasi focused his energy, easing the small craft's nose up. The four mutalisks chasing the corsair remained on his tail, but he could see the distinctive profile of the protoss nexus and defensive structures in the distance. The executor's voice pierced his mind as Hsiatrasi received a telepathic message.

"Well done. The scouting data you have provided will prove invaluable"

Hsiatrasi responded

"I may not live through this..."

The corsair continued towards the base, and as it approached, a battery of three photon cannons elevated themselves out of the ground. Phase Disruptor energy gathered, fed by the pylons near the cannons. Three brilliant blue balls of pure energy shot out from the cannons, towards the zerg flyers. They impacted against the lead mutalisk, destryoing it in a shower of blood and gore.

"EEEEWWWW!!!!!!! My brand new corsair!!!"

said Hsiatrasi.

"We've got them on the run"

said Executor.

Hsiatrasi maneuvered his corsair towards the base's shield battery, and could almost feel the energy flowing back into the craft's shields, reenergizing it. He glanced towards the numerous probes gathering minerals and vespene gas, and pondered what the Executor had in mind to deal with the zerg threat. He could see the stargate in the distance humming, apparently warping in some air support. He also noticed a probe create several new warp rifts. His sensors told him they were a robotics support facility and a fleat beacon. Apparently his executor was planning on building reavers with disruption web support.

Spotting a stray overlord in the distance, Hsiatrasi requested permission from his Executor to harass the flying behemoth. His request was granted, and he started flying away from the base. Hsiatrasi was by no means an experienced pilot, though he had shot at overlords before. He almost felt sorry for them, defenseless and trying to escape ever so slowly. Almost sorry, if they weren't zerg. As he flew towards it, he could feel rage well up within him as he remembered the zerg's first arrival on the worlds of the dark templar. He remebered their fury, the impersonal manner in which they fought. No honor whatsoever.

Nearing the overlord, Hsiatrasi's sensors detected a large group of rapidly moving small ground units. Hsiatrasi assumed they were zerglings, the small attack beasts the zerg used so effectively in massive numbers. He was surprised by how many readings his sensors picked up, and quickly relayed a message to his Executor.

"Executor. I have detected a large presence moving rapidly towards base."

"Investigate."

"Adun Toridas!"

As Hsiatrasi neared the horde, he noticed these zerglings looked rather odd. There were literally hundreds of them, and in the fading light of the Shakuras twilight, he could barely make out what he saw. The creatures were too small, even for zerglings. He noticed they were rather round, with short stubby legs, pointed ears and a long tail. Along their yellow backs were a number of stripes. Hsiatrasi had never seen such a creature.

They noticed him. All of a sudden, all of the creatures stopped their advance and turned towards his corsair, now in the middle of the horde. Hundreds of eyes glared at him, and hundreds of small red dots on their faces hummed with electricity. It was like a templar's psi energy gathering, thought Hsiatrasi. He started to get nervous as he sensed something was about to happen...

The last thing he ever heard was "PIIIKKKKAAAA-CHHUUUUUU!!!!!"

Chapter 1

Location : DSS Aleksander, Deep Space

Admiral DuGalle looked at the boy. The boy was around 11 or 12, was very short and had unkempt black hair. He had a funny looking creature sitting on his shoulder. The creature was unlike any other THING that DuGalle had ever seen before. It was violently yellow, with bright red spots on its cheeks, brown stripes on its back, and had an absurdly long tail. It was rather cute really.

"Why are you staring at my Pikachu, mister?" the boy asked. His voice was scratchy and annoying.

The grizzled old man said nothing and turned away. The empty chamber aboard the cavernous battlecruiser seemed to reverberate as his combat boots hit the ground as he walked away. He took a long breath and sighed. The boy had apparently become rather uncomfortable with the long silence, and hoping to create some rapport, said,

"I'm going to be the greatest Pokemon Trainer Ever!!"

DuGalle did not react at all. He stood still, his back turned to the boy.

"Well? What do you think of my Pikachu?"

The Admiral flinched. So the creature was called a Pikachu.

"Boy.. I guess you're not one for words. What do you think Pikachu?"

The small creature looked up and simply uttered, "Pika"

"What's your problem, old man?" The boy demanded. DuGalle flinched again. He was sensitive about his age. "Do you have any Pokemon? Wanna battle?"

DuGalle remained silent. He walked over to a microphone and paged Samir Duran. He disliked Duran. Perhaps he could torture him by making him babysit this boy.

"Duran! My office! NOW!" He barked in to the microphone.

"Yessir." Duran replied. A few minutes later, Duran arrived at his office.

"Take this boy, and his THING out of my sight. You will babysit him for the next few hours."

Before Duran could respond, the boy leapt up indignantly. "Hey!" He cried "Pikachu deserves to be treated with respect, you old geezer!!" The creature also joined in, angrilly shrieking

"PIKA-PIKA-CHU!"

"NOW!" DuGalle said to Duran, indicating the boy and his creature.

Duran also disliked DuGalle. Too old fashioned. Too old period. He should have retired ages ago, and done the UED a favor.

"What about my duties, sir?" He asked.

"Ignore them. You will stay in your quarters with the boy, and entertain him by any means necessary." DuGalle responded curtly.

"Yessir." Duran said through gritted teeth. "Come on." The boy followed him out the door.

Admiral DuGalle smiled. One good thing had come out of having that nuisance around. He paused for a moment, and reflected on how this entire mess came about. The boy's name was Ash Ketchup, or something like that. Why the UED had selected him for this top secret project remained a mystery to him. He rather liked another boy, by the name of Barry Oak.
He wasn't as annoying, and actually had a normal name. Barry had gone aboard another ship to a Zerg encampment. There was also a girl with fiery hair who had gone with Barry. Another boy with a girl's name was aboard his ship. Alexei Stukov was staying with him.

All of a sudden, the door sprang open, and an angry looking Stukov came bursting through.
He was followed by the other boy. "I cannot stand this child anymore!" Stukov screamed at DuGalle, spraying him. "All he does is talk about POKEMON! POKEMON this! POKEMON that! And he brags about being the best Pokemon watcher in the world!"

DuGalle smiled, he had a plan. The Admiral walked over to the microphone and yelled "Duran! I have another for you to babysit!"

A groan was audibly coming from the microphone. "What was that?" DuGalle asked, looking triumphant. "You will obey your superiors."

"Why me? Why me?" Duran was lamenting. "I mean, yessir."

The moments while Duran was en route were torture. The boy continued babbling about his exploits and kept asking if the two would like to see sketches of these Pokemon, and thrusting pictures in their faces. By the time Samir arrived, DuGalle was ready to throw up.

"It's about time!" said DuGalle, as Duran and the boy left the room.

Alexei seemed to have calmed down quite a bit, and was now somewhat relaxed.

"Now, we must discuss our plans for the invasion of Braxis" said Alexei.

"Of course." remakred DuGalle as he activated a holo-projection of the planet.

"We will land marines with medic support to the south of the capital of Boralis. We will set up a chain of bunkers and missile turrets with the minerals on the surface. Once this is completed, we will fortify our position with Siege Tanks. It will be a good old fashioned siege, Alexei."

"Just like you, my Good Admiral."

Rather than take offense at this statement, DuGalle seemed pleased. He continued. "As the Siege wears down their morale, we will surgically remove their defensive emplacement with wraith squadron alpha. At this time, we will make one final tank push towards Boralis, supported by marine squad C. We will take the capital by daybreak."

"And if everything does not work out just as you say?" asked Stukov.

DuGalle grimaced, as though pained to say it. "We go to plan B"

Meanwhile, Duran's patience was really being tried. As soon as they saw eachother, the boys started talking about Pokemon endlessly.

"And then Pikachu did an amazing thunderbolt. He knocked the stuffing out of that old Golem." The first boy bragged.

"No way! Electric Pokemon suck against rock Pokemon!" The second boy pointed out.

"Well, well, Pikachu's SPECIAL!" The first boy insisted.

"QUIET!!!!!!!!!!"Duran yelled above the boy's screams. Both boys stared at him.

The second one said "Hey mister, didn't that old guy say that you had to 'entertain us by any means possible'?" Duran nodded. "Well, don't you have to follow orders?" Duran grimaced, and replied

"I suppose so."

"Well, then we'll go to him, and tell him you aren't obeying him." The first boy said. Duran sighed and said

"Alright, Alright. What're your names?"

"My name's Ash Ketchum, I'm from Pallet Town, and I'm going to be the greatest Pokemon master in the--"

"I'm Tracy! I really like drawing, and I'm going to be the best Pokemon watcher."

"Hey, you cut me off! I was going to say 'in the world'!"

"Okay, so what do you boys want to do?" Duran asked before Tracy could retaliate.

"WATCH TV!" Both boys screamed.

"I'm afraid that that's not possible. We can't receive radio waves from Earth this far away." Duran explained patiently. "You could watch an old movie. On this ship, we have 'The Hunt for Red October', 'A Civil Action', " Before he could finish, Ash started bawling at the top of his lungs.

"I'm missing teletubbies! WAHHHHHHHHHHH!" He screamed.

"If there's anything else I could do..." Duran said. At that the boy brightened up, and said

"I know! I know! We can play teletubbies! Pikachu can be Po! I'll be Dipsie! Tracy can be La-La! And YOU" he pointed at Duran" can be Tinky Winky!" Duran sighed.

"YEAH!" Tracy yelled. The creature also liked the idea.

"Pika Pika!" It said cheerfully. Duran sighed again, at least no one was watching him as he hopped around.

Little did he know, Admiral DuGalle had installed carefully hidden cameras in each of his crew member's quarters. In his office, he and Alexei had decided to watch Duran for entertainment. Every once in a while they chuckled at Duran's exasperation, and the two boys' antics. Now they were playing "Duck, Duck, Goose". Alexei laughed loudly as Duran chased the short boy half-heartedly around the little circle. DuGalle smiled. Things were looking up...for him at least.
