Lifetime Rating for Mediocritus: 3.0000 |  | Grand Funk Rail Road was on my car stereo. "I'm Your Captain" was in its sixth minute and I was feeling happy that he's getting closer to his home port. The Cadillac Cimarron hits a pot hole and I chuckle as the nearly shockless car takes a leap. Hell, it was buy a car deck MP3 player or new shocks. As "An American Band" cycles onto the stereo I know I made the right decision.
Twenty minutes left in the trip. I smirked as some decent looking lady of about thirty tried to cut me off and then did a double take when she glanced in my window. God it felt good to be in such good shape. It felt almost equally as good that my gas pedal was in good form that day, as I blazed by her. Missed your chance hunny.
I hit the city limits now. New York has never been a pretty place. To be honest, it's never been anything special in my opinion. But hell, it's got a lot of people. That means it has a lot of gaming houses. Probably more there than anywhere else in America, although L.A. might give it a run for its money.
I wasn't worried about getting caught up in the smack talk at the houses. I was above all that now, I represented a sponsor. TheNewReality.Org had hit the markey around Halloween of 2000 and since then had become one of the top electronic entertainment sites on the net. Luckily, I had ridden their success to the top.
My salary paid for my living expenses and I had a travel account as well. Good thing too, Fractal_Wave (One of the music section editors for the site) had been more than generous to upstart bands with the website funds. He even funded a "NewReality" Tour for a few of them. You'd be amazed how many hits you generate when your url is pulsating to hardcore music on a giant board above the band all of 300,000 people came to see. Made money of the admissions too, not bad at all.
That's where I came in, the site needed to be represented at all its events and I was one of the few site members living in the North Eastern United States. From goofing around on stage and introducing our bands to handing out prizes at our $100,000 tournament in Boston, it had been quite a ride.
Of course, we'd sent Nobody to Japan once or twice for NewReality Anime Conventions and such... but still, I think I had the best deal in the business. After all, today I was handing out the prizes at our women gamers contest and then spending the night hitting several New Reality cafes in the New York area.
