{dl}omnipresent and I are in nohunters when omni tell me to go to a channel called "jax." So I do, and after some arguing on what the map should be, we all agree to a 2v2 on maeloseum.
I start out on the bottom (Zerg, picked, orange), Omni is on the top (Protoss, random, purple), dmb! on the right with Terran (random, yellow) and his ally -Tool- (Protoss, random, white).
The Begining: I go for my standard build with 7 pool, 7 overlord, 9 with 2 sunkens and 11 a second hatch with another soon to follow. I make speed upgrades while omni and I scout for the others. We assumed that white would rush because he had a pylon and 2 gateways. While I'm building up my force to attack, omni calls for help. It seems they did plan on a double rush, and failed miserably. Yellow had firebats which hurt omni's zealots and helped purple overpower him. Omni's goons came in time and managed to do some damage while my lings did the rest. I quickly turned around the reinforcements I was sending to omni and attacked white. He had little resistance, and I wondered why. A few zealots were overcome by my 24 speed-upgraded lings. Then, I saw my lings were being popped left and right by a dark templar. I managed to kill a pylon and 5 probes before they died. White wasted no time and sent around 6 dt's to purple. I had sent him a lord to detect such disasters early in the game and omni fended them off with goons. Meanwhile, I sent even more lings to white. I knew they would die but I also knew crippling him would be even worse. Omni sent a Reaver in a shuttle, but goons and dt's got them.
A Valiant player falls: I was reasearching overlord speed when my 15 or so lings met white's probe chain. They easily demolished them and started attacking his nexus. Omni sent men to yellow to attack. But white was smart and already had dt's to assist in case we attacked him. He threw my ally and my lings back while I researched Lurkers and Overlord speed. When that was done, I sent 10 hydras and 2 lurkers over to white to finish what we started. This time, I had an overlord, but it wasn't needed. We finally cleaned up white and it came to be 2v1. Yellow all the while had built up a large army. Omni had expanded to his natural, but it soon came under siege from yellow. I sent men there, but my lurkers were killed by stimmed marines and comsat and tanks. Omni was under constant pressure from yellow because he kept sending more men to deal with him. Remembering my victory under a similiar situation, I wanted to counter attack yellow while he was busy with Omni. Omni agreed and told me get him.
"Get that bastard good. Get him- damn! My expansion! He's coming for my main... get him quick!" cried Omni.
I sent around 20-25 Hydras at this expansion. I knew he'd hurt after I was through with him. I meanwhile reasearhced sacs and expanded to the island to my right. My attack was rebuffed by 3 tanks and 12 marines and medics with stims. I got a few depots and killed 8 scvs and got his cc burning before falling. Yellow was seeping deeper and deeper into Omni's main. Yellow had expanded to the Highlands to his north too. Omni saw this and dropped 4 zealots there to take care of it.
2v1? Or 1v1? The tale of a player's doom:
I kept sending more hydras and lurkers in an attempt to break yellow's chain and stop reinforcements from coming. I gave up on that and decided to just help Omni. I succedded in doing so... for about 2 minutes. More tanks and marines came. Omni was in trouble, I couldn't help him much longer and Omni had nothing to help himself. Seeing his immenent demise, Omni expanded to Yellow's attempted expandion. But a few scvs were left over and spotted this. After Omni's main fell, and few dropships loaded with marines came and hit Omni's last chance.
"Leave me a Pylon?" pleaded Omni.
"Sure." replied the Powerful Terran.
Well, it was 1v1 now. I had expanded again to the highlands to my left. I knew yellow would come for me soon, images of my hordes ravaging his ally streaked across my mind. This bastard was revengful. I listened to Omni and started to tech to a hive. But... once I got it, what should I get?
"Get Ultras! They help a lot!" shreiked Omni.
"Ultras?!? Pff! Hydras and lurkers do just fine against tanks and Marines." replied the cocky Zerg player.
Soon I saw the error of my ways. I was short on cash and needed to raise an army to salvage my main. Yellow had a record 6-8 tanks backed up by comsat and plenty of firebats, marines, and medics. I, on the other hand, had about 20-30 hydras and after they died, I made 6 lurkers. Remembering my victory against 'imhotep' in a previous engagement, I sent my lurkers to burrow in the middle of his forces. Well, it failed. After my attack was officially over, I counted his losses and found he had about 3 tanks and 5-6 marines and medics left. I was extremely short on gas since I forgot to mine it at my expansions. Yellow found my western base and dropped about 20-30 assorted infantry. I scrapped together 12 hydras and 2 sunkens. All that was left was my near-depleted expansion to the right. It was hopeless. I dropped some Hydras on his poorly defended main sometime, but they were killed by freshly made tanks and a bunker full of marines.
It was only a matter of time before I died, and he asked for vision.
"You first." I said.
He opened up and I saw many units keeping tabs on all the expansions. His entire attack force was the same one I faced at my main, but by now their numbers withered.
"Boy, you kinda gave up near the end." I observed.
"Yup." He replied.
"Ally up or just ally vision?" I asked.
"Sure, ally up."
Well, it seems his main had jack to defend it, and if I had dropped my hydras and forgot about my main, I might've won. He had only 1 expansion, and that was the same one I nearly destroyed. I left bitter and angry at myself.
Lessons:
1. Even if it's 2v1, don't get lazy. I managed to kill one guy with some (little) help from Omni (j/k omni.. hehehe). Yellow was left to grow without a solid counter attack from me. My fault, I blame myself.
2. Don't expand where the oppenent knows you are. And if you do, keep it guarded. Omni could have picked a better spot than Yellow's razed hill. He could have avoided detection and rebuilt to help me. I guess Omni didn't expect a drop attack from Yellow and decided to risk it. Bad idea.
3. Tech early if you're Zerg. I could have gotten ultras and cut through his infantry with lings and Hydras backing the big guys up. Even if I didn't go for that, I coud have gotten guardians, or queens, or defilers to help me. I didn't start teching untill my main was under siege. Big error on my part. Terrans can overpower Zerg if the Zerg stays low tech.
4. Don't be pessimistic. Throughout the whole game, Omni was complaining and whining about his game. If he didn't type so much and concentrated on winning, it might have been different. If you think you are gonna lose, you are and already have. |
