Cool.
I'll skip on the lame introductions and to the chase. It was me (terran) and -=JSH=- (protoss) against Dragoon748 (protoss) and oh heck, don't remember the other guy's name. He was the red reaver-happy guy on top. Everyone went random and got protoss except me, who got stuck with 4 lame, clumsy SCVs. No I'm not complaining.
My command center showed up at the west, with my partner at the east, while Dragoon and his ally taking south and north positions, respectively. In the first few seconds, between B.O. maintenance, we've decided to go with 'medazealots'... "why not?"
I've started teching up to academy after first barracks, while scouting. JSH's probe found a gateway-first B.O. at the north, then left.
Meanwhile my SCV sent to the south found a very strange thing. Dragoon's (2nd?) pylon was stuck just north of his expansion. I had to go through to scout his base which showed two gateways warping in. I've started a refinery then stopped and left. He didn't have any troops for a while, so my SCV returned to the pylon and started munching on its shields. First 3 marines were sent on their merry way.
"Help me with that pylon" I've said.
"I didn't realise you had that much success", JSH said.
He sent a couple zealots. Dragoon's first zealot came over to kick my SCV's butt, so the SCV ran away, coming back a couple seconds later with two zealot buddies, whining to them about this meanie who left him with 5 hit points all the way. The zealot went poof, and the pylon went down. The SCV helped both events, but died somewhere along the way.
Red sent about 4 zealots, while I dispatched first couple medics. JSH and my marines took them from both sides, but the attack on the choke point into Dragoon's base failed - because JSH's zealots ended up outnumbered anyway (2 to 1) and withdrew, while I had my hands full with pumping medics and marines out of two barracks and making a factory.
My marines and medics followed JSH's lead to the northern base, since both zealot forces were left behind at the south. 4 stimmed marines, 2 medics, and about 8 zealots made it through the choke point defended by two zealots and 3 dragoons; thanks to comsat. After that, we had a few seconds to ourselves chasing the surviving dragoons across otherwise undefended town. "Ahh, that's the stuff. MEEEDIC!" JSH got his zealots into the probe line, but didn't do much damage before the double zealot team made it over here. The last one to die was the medic. We didn't do much except scaring them and killing some troops.
Meanwhile... my first tank was done and engineering bay was about to, I'm floating my second CC to the island up north and JSH gets a reaver shoved where it hurts. Shortly thereafter Dragoon starts knocking on his front door, so he had to fight at both fronts, defending his new expansion (natural), and sending 6-7 dragoons to kill the reaver.
I've sent everything I had to his expansion - a bunch of marines and 2 medics, and one tank. It helped later on a bit. I was making more and teching, while I saw the shuttle near my landing CC. Uh oh.
Of course, there was a reaver in there shortly, killing both SCV's. I've lifted my CC. The reaver left, heading for my main base while the probe left behind had started a pylon
and two cannons to chase the CC off. It didn't work
because the dropship unloaded a siege tanks, 3 marines and a medic before they warped in. I'm not sure if they ever did -
I was too busy saving my SCVs from the reaver who killed the other tank. Thankfully, the reaver guy was distracted too - by what, I don't know. He forgot to reload the reaver.
I had a vulture nearby, so, bashfully it ran towards the reaver, and laid a mine next to it, then ran away. I had to do that twice before the SCVs could return back to work and my teching resumed - along with many more turrets, at both bases now. My mine laying efforts went unnoticed - noone ever tried to walk across the three mines in front of my natural expansion, while the odd mine I put near JSH was killed in the passing by red's goons. Should've put a lot more mines in there, but was too busy with other things.
The marines and the tank got stormed at the expansion in a bit, but the templar didn't make it. I didn't even see it, only the 'you're under attack' message and the splats where the marines used to be, while the tank had 5 measly hitpoints left.
The tank, surrounded by turrets, was prompty repaired.
After that, I went wraiths, and harassed Dragoon into leaving his mineral line entirely because there was no cannon defense in there and he didn't build templars.
Both Dragoon and his ally were concentrating on JSH. Poor guy he got reaver dropped about 3-4 times throughout the game, with dragoon stomps at the front all the time! My tank and marines got eventually stormed by red protoss forces, only a firebat and two medics lived for a while.
JSH went mass dragoons himself and fought back well, while I was left all by myself. The wraiths eventually ran out of mana and were chased off, while I was making more.
I said I was going to drop Dragoon while JSH said that he'll try to keep them busy for a while. It worked - after a few seconds the top protoss' expansion fell to mass goon fire and the guy quit, surprising everyone in the game.
JSH couldn't get through the Dragoon's chooke with his goons, but my 3-dropship drop along with eight wraiths and a science vessel caused enough of a distraction to break the defenses... assaulted from two sides, and without psi-storm, the last resistance was broken and "gg" debriefing was exchanged.
Noone ever claimed the island at the south-east, altho JSH visited it with a shuttle to make sure. I was way too busy orchestrating normal terran chores (an expansion there, a turret there, a supply depot there) to do much and when I did, I ended up with a thousand minerals in the bank in the next minute. Tsk tsk tsk. Despite my detection paranoia, the only stealth units in the game were my own wraiths. Ironic hmm.
LESSONS LEARNED:
- Scouting is good.
- Teamwork is good.
- Psi storm is good.
- JSH is good.
- Terran doesn't suck. |
