A 1.08 Report
Im pretty sure I don't know you, and you definately don't know me, but I'm here to present what was probably one of the best goddamn games I've ever bloody seen. I've never written a battle report as yet, and after watching this game using 1.08's nifty little replay option, I thought I could only serve this match justice by at least trying.
The battle took place on the ever so familiar Lost Temple (using 1.08), with our two heroes, Crap711 in the blue corner controlling the Terran forces and QsX^DAG^ in the yellow corner commanding the mighty protoss warriors spawning in at the 9 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions respectively.
Crap711 teched straight for heavy metal with a severe twist on vultures, beginning with:
- Supply at 9, upon completion the scv scouted clockwise around the map
- Barracks at 11
- Refinery at 12
- Supply Depot at 15 completing the wall in at his choke point
- Factory at 16
- Promptly afterwards 2 other factories were produced and a machine shop was added to one of them and began researching spider mines.
During all of this, Crap711 had completly neglected any form of defense inlcuding units and was defenseless until about 23/25 supply.
QsX on the other hand, opted for a quick tech to dragoons his build order followed:
- Pylon at 9 and the probe began scouting counter-clockwise as soon as it began warping
- Double Gateway, at 10 and 11 followed by just one quick zealot
- Pylon again at 14
- Assilimator at 14
- Cybernetic Core at 18, upon completion he quickly began reseacrhing dragoon range
- Another pylon at 24
Both of the initial scouting peons meet each other at the 12 o'clock position and a brief bitch fight occured until the scv ran away crying and found its way into QsX's base. It had a quick scout around looking specifically at the tech path and once again ran away and hid in the upper right corner of QsX's base like the bacon thieving pussy it was.
Meanwhile QsX's probe had found a much better use for itself and joined his first zealot near crap's natural, but they were moved too close to the ledge and Crap711 could see the pair waiting around. The two 'soon to be perpetrators' had a sudden brain explosion and made their way up Crap711 choke and began hacking away at one of the supply depots which wasnt doing much except minding its own business. When Crap711 saw the attackers move in, he quickly began producion of a single vulture, while a nearby scv which was at hand, made itself useful and began repairing the supply depot.
As soon as it was made, the vulture tore off towards the two attackers and fired one fragmentation grenade at the probe doing the equivalent of jack shit before the attackers fled back down the ramp and waited patiently for sufficient reinforcements.
2 newly produced dragoons begin traversing the map towards Crap711's base and join the zealot and his pet probe, but the dragoons in their stupidity wander to close to the cliff on their way over and the vultures are able to score a couple of free shots off the dragoons, not that it will make any difference because contrary to popular belief, vultures do not > dragoons, especially soon to be range upgraded dragoons.
The zealot and his pet probe are commanded far enough up the ramp to see whats on the high ground, but not close enough to come within the range of the vultures, so the dragoons, which are soon to = 4 as 2 more are quick closing the distance, begin firing at the supply depot closest to the cliff. 3 vultures squeeze their way in between the cliff and the supply depot and begin firing at the dragoons in an attempt to damage them but only succed in wasting everyones time and energy because once again, contrary to popular belief, vultures do not > dragoon, even with the high ground advantage, which were now range upgraded. The vultures retreat and cling as close to the cliff side as possible hoping to score a couple of free shots on any other dragoons dumb enough to get to close to the cliff on their way towards the battle field. And their prayers seem to be answered as yet again 2 dragoons travel to close and are fired upon, yet again wasting everyones time.
By now, Crap711has 9 vultures with spider mine research about 10 seconds away form completion, and there are 4 dragoons, a zealot and an injured probe craving human blood angrily waiting for the supply depot to burn so they can plunder Crap711's base. But Crap711 seems to have had enough of the waiting around and lifts his barracks off the ground, sending his fleet of 9 vultures through, killing the zealot and the probe guarding the ramp before they could even smell the excretions pouring out from the rear end of the vulture drivers because they are about to get severly owned by 4 dragoons. And thats exactly what happened. Due to some very poor micro and a nasty spider mine which killed 1 dragoon and 3 vultures. 3 dragoon are left standing, 2 severly injured as all 9 of the vultures crashed and burned horribly, to the general amusement of me, and QsX im sure.
Yet another 2 dragoons had found their way towards Crap711's base, but stupidly, all 5 dragoons began firing at the supply depot and the barracks positioned at crap's choke rather than go straight for his worker line, and by the time they had dispatched of the buildings, 2 more vultures and a tank were created just as the dragoons knocked on the door and were meet by a cowardly vulture who had some how been left out of the vulture ownage the dragoons enforced not 30 seconds ago. However due to poor micro, and Crap711 trying to lay spider mines everywhere, all the Terran forces were promply slaughtered, the only trace of their existnace was the crazy looking mushroom cloud and 4 spider mines, placed somewhere guarenteed noonewill ever go.
When faced with times of desperation, some people turn savage. Crap711's scv's proved to be no excpetion. A wild, crazed mass of about 10 scv sounded the battle cry as they charged the dragoons scattered about their base. The two dragoons who were severly injured beforehand were killed by the scv's which is always classic comedy to watch, and as the other three regrouped, another 2 vultures and a tank popped out of the three working factories. The scv's somehow surrounded the dragoons and were unable to retreat as the tank and 2 vultures, plus now 8+ beserking scv's butchered them. They tried to fight back valiently, but unfortunatly, dragoons shoot their loads at about the same rate as a Sweedish pronstar so the scv's had time to leave the country before fearing any form of retaliation. Crap711 had succeded in removing the threat from his base with the lose of 8 scv's, as stupidly, and somewhat expectedly, a vulture mine chasing after the last fleeing dragoon, surrounded by 5 scv's, managed not only to kill the dragoon, but the 5 scv's attempting to kill it.
During all the comotion and bitch fighting, QsX has managed to tech for a reaver drop, as 4 dragoons made their way in through Crap711's front door, a reaver accompanied by a shuttle, found itslef deployed in the middle of Crap711's peon line. The first scarab killed 4 scv's, as 2 vultures evily descended upon the intruder, only to be blown back to earth in about 0.003 of a second by the next scarab that came out the the reavers metallic shell. A tank began popping away at the reaver as it fired another volley into the peon line killing another 3, before it was scooped up and brought around to the other end of the minerals by the shuttle, but however, as soon as the reaver was deployed, QsX took the time to expand to the 3 o'clock main. The reavers scarabs got caught behind the refinery and were wasted as the tank finished off the reaver without the aid of seige mode.
The four invading dragoons fared no better as the first two are wasted by 3 spider mines placed, around the choke, and the other two die when another 4 spider mines pop up. The dragoon attempted to kill the mines as they were attack moved, but due to their slow firing rate cannot kill the spider mines before they blow up in thier face and are soon only a pile of blue, gunky crap someone will later tred in.
There is a brief lull in action as QsX brings his expansion at his natural online and Crap711 repairs and rebuilds any damage done to his base. QsX also adds a Citedal of Adun and a Templar Archives to his tech tree, obviously to build Dark Templar becasue Crap711 doesnt even have an engineering bay yet. Crap711 continues to pump from 3 factories, and soon has a force of 2 tanks and 4 vultures who begin the first counter attack of the game.
The scv Crap711 left in the corner of QsX comes out from its hiding path and scouts around his base, upon seeing the Templar Archives, he throws down and engineering bay and later an Armoury and begins adding Goliaths to his warchest. Due to the psi storm damage being reduced from 125 to 113, goliaths can now withstand at least one storm, making them a better choice than vultures.
QsX begins reseach on zealot leg speed, obviously to counter seige tanks and dancing vultures which he will soon face, as 2 dragoons were left outside crap's natural and are soon assulted by the approaching Terran army, 2 vultures had strayed from the pack and are shot at for a while, one of them left basically dead before the 2 dragoons retreat back towards their base and are joined by another 2, the vultures give chase leaving a path of mines behind them, and because they now have Ion Thrusters researched, reach the 4 goons before the tanks do, 2 vultures explode, and one dragoon turns to gunk before the tanks arrive and everyone scatters, 2 vultures somehow manage to kill 2 dragoons, one of the two tanks goes up in flames and a hot headed vulture tries to avenge the death of his Master Seargent, but meets the same fate before the goon is wasted by the other tank, neither of the tanks were in seige mode. So the surviving 2 vultures and a tank make there way to QsX natural expansion.
The vultures are met by two zealots outside the expansion and are left with very little health until they start dancing out of range of the zealots, killing them withut taking any further damage. The probes mining at the expansion, upon seeing the injured vultures, turn into savage malisious beats and attack the vultures, who are very effective at killing peons. But a single dragoon from QsX's main, kills the two damaged vultures and gets a couple of shots off on the tank which is left with 70 health. The first Dark Templar is warped in and in time to chase of the injured tank, but is wasted when it follows the tank straight into 2 spider mines. Crap711 is proving his vultures to be more than cost effective. But however the goons also give chase to the tank and kill it before any more damage is done.
Meanwhile back at Crap711's main, a forces of 7 vultures and a tank have amassed and make their way towards QsX's expansion again. Upon their arrival, they are met with one Dark Templar and a goon, waiting at the outskirts, it slashed once, is scanned for, and quickly dispatched of doing little damage. 2 more vultures and the tank are making thier way down, and when the two vultures meet the other 7 others, they attack the goon. For some unknown reason, they leave the goon seconds from death and on 15 health and start laying spider mines in the middle of the peon line, which is a dumb idea because spider mines dont attack peons. Another goon and a Dark Templar join the fray, and rape all 9 vultures as they get stuck between the probes and are killed one by one, 4 mines were left, 2 in the peon line and 2 just outside QsX's choke by one vulture which strayed away. By now the tank has made its way down, only to find it has no support and retreats, once again the Dark Templar chases after the tank all the way back to Crap711's natural when it decides to eat 5 spider mines for breakfast.
An scv built a missile turret at Crap711's natural and soon is copmlemented by a command centre at the resource node. QsX also takes the opportunity to expand at the 9 o'clock main, making the expansion count 2:1 in QsX's favour. Crap711 breaks the lull in action by sending a force of 3 tanks and 7 vultures off to assault QsX's expansion at his natural once again. Meanwhile QsX also has a small force of 6 dragoons and a reaver accompanied by a shuttle back at his base, as Crap711's army moves down the left hand side of map, QsX's dragoons move into the middle of the map, and both of the forces pass each other without seeing their opponents force, but QsX spotted Crap's army with a probe he had sent to a mineral only expansion just above his natural, and the goons move in to attack before the tanks seige up. However Crap711 also saw the probe and seiged one of his tanks at the mineral patch and the vultures layed mines within the proximity. Unknown to Crap711 was that the goons were actually north of his position not south, the goons moved in and began firing on one of the tanks and the vultures, 2 dragoons and a vulture died instantly, while the goons mived in close to the tanks. As they did, two things happened, Crap711 seiged one of the 2 tanks which werent seiged, and QsX's reaver arrived at the scene and was dropped at the foot of the tank already in seige mode. All the vultures had returned from the mine laying and moved in beside the tank which was in the process of seiging. When the dragoons formed their line, they moved within range of the spider mines, and so all at once, practically every unit present fired at the same time. I was lucky to catch the pic as about 4 or 5 units all exploded at the same time. As the dust settled, 2 vultures and 2 seige tanks were left standing, thanks to Crap711 spreading hs units out so the splash damage from the tanks and the reaver did less damage.
Anyway, a second later, a lone Dark Templar whisked by, completly ignoring the immoble seiged tanks and 2 vultures and continued on up towards Crap711's base. However unfortuantly for Dark Templars, they cannont absorb spider mines like an ultralisk can and the Dark Templar copped 5 or 6 spider mines up the arse for being foolish.
5 new vultures snaked their way down the map and join the survivors from the last battle, while QsX threw down a plyon and a photon cannon on the high ground above his expansion to prevent any turbo newbie attempts. He also added three gateways and the choke in his 3 o'clock expansion and finnaly added a third gateway at his main. He also loaded a single zealot into a shuttle and dropped it at the foot of the tanks, which were still in seige mode, one of the tanks was destoryed from the splash damage the other dealt, as did the zealot.
Crap711 now had a force of 10 vultures and 2 tanks, and seiged them so the tanks could start firing away at the buildings in QsX's expansion. However, 5 dragoons somehow managed to kill every single unit Crap711 had without the loss of a single dragoon, probably becasue one of the tanks seemed to lose interest in what it was doing and began firing at the forge the whole time, not the dragoons.
The dragoons attempt to counterattack but are blown off the face of the planet by four thousand spider mines. 6 zealots meet in the middle of the map and try again at Crap711 natural expansion, only to find he has also begun to expand to mineral only expansion just outside his natural, however once again the zealots had to absorb spider mine after spider mine and 5 vultures were enough for QsX to retreat back with 3 losses taken by both sides due to the splash damage of the mines.
From here the game turns from a micro intensive game to a macro war. Crap711 has not pressured QsX's expansions much the whole game and send another harrasment force of 4 vulture through to the main recourse node at QsX's 3 o'clock expansion. However the vultures get stuck on their way through and 2 zealots and a cannon placed at the choke administer quite a lot of damage to the vultures, leaving 3 of them in critical health. A single zealot is able to destroy all four of the vultures and once again, QsX's expansions are forgotten about. Both players take the chance to expand, QsX's to the mineral only expansion outside his main, and Crap711 floats the command centre from his main over to the upper left island.
Crap711 has finished off the command centre at the mineral only expansion and throws down 3 missile turrets to prevent any unwanted Dark Templar from wandering into his base, and begins to tank push his way towards the middle of the map. Because QsX has so many expansions, Crap711 has to cover himself on all sides and therefore wastes resources in fortefying his flanks. With a mix of tanks, vultures and goliath's he begins the laborious procedure of seiging, unseiging, moving, seiging etc etc. His push holds the first few counterattacks well, QsX has 3 gateways at everyone of his expansions now, and simply gathers his units outside his 6, 3 and 12 o'clock naturals and attack moves them in. But due to the constant pressure, and flow of fresh units, his push eventually crumbles when his flank guarding the 12 o'clock expansion is destroyed and 8 zealots are able to surround the tanks and kill them off, without the support of his tanks, the vultures and goliaths die quickly and Crap711 is forced to start all over again.
This time however, Crap711 works his way towards the mineral only expansion outside QsX's 3 o'clock position. QsX is attacking with zealots and dragoons only, and brings his first few high templar along for the rides, and the forces of QsX which number about 14 dragoons, 2 high templar and about 6 zealots face off against Crap711's units, which consist of about 8 tanks, 6 vultures and 5 goliaths. Once again, Crap711 emerges victorious, taking little losses as QsX's forces take heavy hits from Crap711's fully upgraded tanks at 3/3, while QsX is only at 1/0/0, which means he's dying fast, however, 2 forges have just warped in plus the one he had since the start of the game, gives him three, and they are all put to work.
Both players load up units into transports, in the hope of stunnting the others economy, Crap711 loads up 4 vultures into a drop ship and pilots it towards QsX's 3 o'clock expansion, while QsX loads up a single High Templar into a shuttle and ferries the load towards the cliff above Crap711's mineral only expand. The transports pass each other one their way towards their destinations, and only QsX seems to have noticed this as he places 3 dragoons along the cliff side to ward off the approaching drop ship. The 3 dragoons prove to be enough of a warning, as Crap711 pulls the drop ship back when he sees the dragoons. But QsX's shuttle arrives safely to its target, and 3 seconds later, 7 scv's die to the Templars psi storm. 2 vultures are instantly transported ontop of the cliff and eliminate the threat before any more damage is done.
Both players played an awesome game, and they both and different stages of the game showed some superior micro/macro skills which certainly raised by eyebrows. One suggestion i feel obligated to make however, is that if Crap711 had made more of an attempt to destory QsX's expansions early on in the game, he wouldnt have found himself out resourced and dieing to just sheer volume of units. But overall a very GG by both players and thanks for reading my first ever battle report! I'd like to note that Crap711 had a kill/loss statistic of something like 720-500, pretty impressive seing as he was facing a protoss opponent.
