Hello, I’m Larry, and I am a Terran SCV. Yes, you heard correctly, I am an underpaid, under appreciated mineral relocater for the Terran Army. It is as if nobody even cares about us anymore. In battle reports today, you often hear about marines saving the day or templars storming the last of the enemy forces, but you never hear about SCVs and the stories they have to tell. Sure from time to time you get a battle report telling of a heroic mass SCV drop into an enemy base, but those are of rare occurrences. The way I see things, SCVs are not given the fame and appreciation they deserve! Who is it that mines all the minerals you use make those marines and medics you always hear and cheer for? I’ll tell you who, hard working SCVs! Moreover, there is the constant fear of being an SCV altogether. Did you know when a Protoss shuttle carrying reavers flies over an SCV mining spot, more SCVs die of heart attacks than they do from actually reaver fire? I didn’t think so. It is because of the fact that SCVs are not getting the fame they deserve that Drintr has allowed me, Larry-SCV Extraordinaire, to tell you the tales of SCVs from an SCV’s point of view. This following battle report will contain three stories that will show off an SCV’s four greatest qualities: mining, rushing, repairing, and combat.

Our first game takes place on a rather unusually map. The map is basically scattered with mineral patches that only contain eight minerals. To win on such a map, a player must be able to find and mine these minerals so they can, in time, out number the other player’s army and win. Although I will admit that most starcraft games our won anyways by the events previously described, this map is different in that you will have to expand much more than in any other starcraft map. Seeing the confused looks on your faces I’ll just post a screenshot. Drintr? Would you be an angel and get that up for me? Thank you!

As you can see from the map, our brave and fearless leader Drintr started up as Terran in the top left corner. Flonase! started as Zerg in the bottom left hand corner. My comrades and I started mining all the minerals we could see furiously. Drintr had promised us some time in the “medic barracks” after the battle if things went well, so all us SCVs went into overtime just to ensure that we would win the upcoming battle. Once out of minerals in our start off base, we began to search for other patches of minerals. Intelligence informed us that Flonase! probably wasn’t too thrilled to have to look for new expansions so early in the game by his heart warming comments.

Intelligence also reported that Flonase! was also probably not the winner of many spelling bees either.

Once gathering around seven SCVs (one of which was me, Larry-SCV Extraordinaire,) Drintr decided to attack. We were ordered to move to the zerg hatchery and put our fusion cutters into its gooey skin. The drones nearby tried to attack us, but our armor was able to block the drone spit from doing any serious damage.

The hatchery was destroyed; ending the game and proving that SCVs are great at out mining and killing an opponent.

Fine fine, that game was not the most epic of starcraft games, but it did prove a valid point. SCVs rock! I will agree that the game was one-sided, but the way I see things any game where you are going against SCVs is going to be one sided… and if it isn’t your opponent is hacking. SCVs are also great at rushing. It is amazing how much fear you can strike into an opponent when you charge an army of SCVs into an enemy base. In this next game you can see how SCVs are the masters of rushing. Plus, you will get to see some awesome pictures of me, Larry-SCV Extraordinaire, attacking an enemy Protoss nexus.

The game started on the notorious big game hunters. Definitely not the greatest map in the world, but perfect for an old fashioned SCV rush. My opponent was none other than the highly acclaimed Adawg. Adawg had decided that Protoss was a good race against any Terran opponent, and chose it as the race he’d start out with. At the beginning of the game I forced Drintr to ask Adawg what he thought was the best unit in the game. Adawg’s answer surprised me a great deal, since it was not what I expected. I figured either Adawg was a complete genius that was using mind games to hinder Drintr’s playing ability, or he was a complete moron. I choice the later.

I asked Drintr to rephrase the question to hopefully make it easier for Adawg to understand. Drintr clarified his question by typing in the word, “Unit?” to end up getting Adawg to say, “Don’t know”. Since Adawg didn’t know what the best unit in the game was I figured it only polite to open his eyes, and show him it was the space construction vehicle (SCV). I had Drintr construct some more SCVs for the assault. Meanwhile we sent some SCV Scouts to attempt to find Adawg’s secret Protoss base. Sure enough we found the base in the last place we looked, and discovered that only a couple of pylons had been made. For those of you who care, Drintr had started in the middle right position and Adawg was located in the top middle position. Drintr ordered our SCV rush to begin, once acquiring around eleven SCVs. I was chosen to lead the charge, and make sure our SCVs got the victory they deserved. Some of my fellow SCVs were so excited that they even took their minerals with them, forgetting to safely deposit them in the command center.

Even though the probes outnumbered us, Adawg was so panicked by the mechanical strangers in his base that he quickly resigned. Ensuring yet another victory for SCVs around the planet. Maybe now Adawg will realize what the best unit in the game really is…the SCV.

Okay, okay so maybe that game wasn’t the greatest game either… although, it did show the power of a well planned and coordinated SCV rush. This last battle that I would like to present to you will reveal some of an SCV’s greatest attributes. In this next game you will see my comrades and I destroy an entire enemy base, out mine the enemy, and pretty much own our opponent so badly he will never be able to have children. Now of course General Drintr would never be able to accomplish such a victory, so we decided that General JJ! would be perfect for the job.

The game was set on the map lost temple. General JJ! and his SCVs would be fighting against Soulfire. Soulfire was also Terran, and ended up starting on the 3:00 position while JJ! started at the 12:00 position. I was lucky enough to be one of the four starting SCV’s for JJ!. Once reaching a supply of eight I was ordered to build our first supply depot. At 15 supply I had to make a command center in our natural, while another SCV (good friend of mine by the way) had to make a refinery. I always feel sorry for the SCVs that are put on gas mining duty. It is a tough line of work, being that it is extremely easy to get sick from the toxic fumes *sigh*, yet another hardship in the life of an SCV.

General JJ! ordered us to begin a tech to factories, just in case things went bad during the SCV attack. I personally knew it wouldn’t, but you can’t blame a guy for being careful. Our opponent, Soulfire, started to tech towards wraiths making a few marines in the process. Once gaining around forty or fifty SCVs, General JJ! decided to start the attack. Every SCV we had strolled towards the enemy base, fusion cutters ready to cut through the enemy forces. A lone, enemy marine saw the invading force and started trying to gun us down. Unfortunately for him, marine rifles are no match for hard-core SCV fusion cutters, and we quickly killed him. We charged up the ramp and began our attack on the buildings. It was a glorious win for us. The base was destroyed within seconds. Soulfire only had one wraith at the time that posed no real threat to my fellow SCVs. During all these events our great general decided to construct a star port and a wraith to combat the remaining enemy wraith anyway.

Our SCVs had destroyed most of the base, but Soulfire was not going to give up this easily and decided to lift all of his buildings (which after the attack only consisted of a command center and barracks). Luckily our newly built wraith was able to save the day by destroying the lifted command center. Its search for the barracks was interrupted by Soulfire ordering his wraith to attack our wraith. Our SCVs quickly started repairing our wraith, giving it the edge to win the battle. Yet Soulfire had another trick up his sleeve. Near his natural he had landed his barracks and constructed five marines. Although my army of SCVs could of killed the marines with ease, we felt that some of the other units in the game should get some fame. We told JJ! to simply construct a dropship and some tanks, then do a drop on the cliff nearby the barracks. The barracks and surrounding marines were quickly destroyed by tank gunfire, ensuring an SCV victory. Haha, now that I think about it, maybe if General Soulfire had concentrated more on building SCVs instead of dumb wraiths and marines he would of won… this just goes to show you that SCVs do own all.

I hope now after reading this battle report you appreciate SCVs a bit more. Sure we may have some faults, but doesn’t everyone? So the next time you are Terran and you see your SCVs mining along with their fingers up their noses, give them a thank you. We deserve it!
