I was looking for some 1v1 action in vanilla SC this afternoon. So I perused over the game list looking for any 1v1 games not on BGH or a custom map. I played 3 games, all kinda humorous.
Game 1
Map: Blood Bath
Me: Picked Terran (lower left)
Him: Picked Zerg (upper right)
I walk into the game and he has already picked Zerg. Gee, I have no idea what Zerg players on Blood Bath do. *smirk* So I choose Terran and wonder if the guy on the other side thinks he's going to get an easy kill (probably not if he saw my 210-90 record :) ).
I deviate from my build that goes 8-depot, 11-rax, 13-rax, for a more Blood Bath-type order. 6 Rax, build a bunker and 2 marines right after, then a depot. This build obviously prepares for the early zerglings. Sure enough, they arrived, but not until AFTER I had 5 marines. They start attacking my barracks, ignoring everything else, and are cut to pieces in approximately 3.2 seconds. Easy repair and everything is as good as new.
"I never even saw that bunker" he says.
"Good" I reply.
I send a single marine to scout him out now, and he runs into 2 sunkens with 2 more morphing. Goody. Time to get my economy back on its feet, so I make more SCV's, a 2nd barracks, refinery, academy, and factory. Everything is going smoothly. When I comsat him, I see 8 sunkens all nice and neat, and no lair.
I make a 2nd factory just so I can make tanks faster, and move my 24 marines to the middle. There's a scary overlord guarding each of the chokes of the empty starting spots. Ooooh. My marines, however, are very brave, and show the overlords that they shouldn't really be there.
So now I have 6 tanks and am ready to bash down the wall. I scan the Zerg one more time to find 8 sunkens, 3 spore colonies (?!?), 3 hydras and 6 zerglings. Yawn. I siege up and start knocking them all down. I chuckle at the spores (maybe he read Newbieland V where I made wraiths vs. sunkens), and bellylaugh as he pulls drones off the line to make MORE sunkens! Too easy. He starts calling me a cheap motherf*cker. LOL. He tried to cheese me early (and he was very late doing it), and then calls me cheap later on. Brilliant. Another funny thing is, he says "you're not gonna get the win", but then he just normally leaves. Oh no, not the fake disconnect!
Game 2
Map: Road War
Me: Picked Terran (lower left)
Him: Picked Zerg (upper right)
Yet another guy that has Zerg already selected when I join the game. This time I do my normal build order since Road War is a medium sized map. I scout with 7th scv to see about 8 drones and a pool morphing. Okay, that's fairly normal. I leave the SCV outside his base to spot incoming.
I make marines out of 2 barracks and get a refinery. When I have 6 marines, 8 zerglings come rushing into my town. These particular zerglings are obviously mad at my barracks and begin banging their heads against it. So they get cut to pieces in about 3.2 seconds. Just for fun I made a bunker even though I probably didn't need it. A minute later 8 more zerglings charge in and barely cause 30 points of damage to the bunker before they are killed.
I get an academy and comsat. I scan him to see 3 sunkens with 3 more morphing and about 10 zerglings. Oh boy. Time to make some factories. As I'm making more marines and tanks I scan him again to see the beginnings of a spire. Just to be on the really safe side I tech to SV's. I also send 24 marines outside his base to contain him.
I really need more gas so I chose to expand to the middle right and put 4 scv's on the refinery there. I was fine with minerals. I scan his sunkened choke to see a Queen's Nest there. That means a Hive is coming, and since I saw the spire earlier, I guessed guardians were on the way. Good thing I made SV's. I move a couple to where the marines were.
When I have 6 tanks ready I scan his choke to see a 24 zergling group in front of the sunkens. Through masterful siege tank positioning (not really) the tanks fire on the zerglings and kill about half. The other half are killed by the marines guarding. Time to bash down the wall again (and the Queens' nest at the choke too. Why was it there?).
As I'm bashing my way again, you might guess that Guardians would attack. Nope. 2 Ultralisks attacked. I did a double take, then started laughing. If he had spent that gas on guardians (and not thrown away 4 mutas before too), he could have probably hurt me some. But no. He made ultras.
As I destroy his base I see creep from the left. He's expanded! I scan the expansion to see a defiler mound (gasp!) and a new pool. After his main was done, I destroyed the few sunkens he had there with tanks, then moved in the original marines (now weak from stim) with some reinforcements. I can only guess what would have happened if he had made defilers. I might have been in trouble with darkswarmed ultralisks. Perhaps he wasn't such a newbie after all. :)
Game 3
Map: Volcanis
Me: Picked Terran (upper left)
Him: Picked Zerg (lower right)
The name of this game was '1 vs. 1 rush'. Amused, I join and find he has already picked Zerg. Oh goodness, what's gonna happen now? He starts the game after saying 'damn' which could only mean he saw my record and experience. Hehe.
Just to be ballsy, I do the build I did in Game 2 instead of a build that prepares for a zergling rush. I scout him out and see 7 drones and a pool morphing. Surprise surprise. I leave the SCV outside. I make marines out of 2 barracks and then send the SCV back in for a look-see. He gets plastered by a sunken. What happened to rush?
Oh wait, here it comes. He hits me with about 12 lings when I had 6 marines. It was enough that it caused me to bring a few SCV's off the line to help attack, but no big deal. I made a bunker just in case.
I get the academy and scan to see (surprise again!) 7 sunkens. All this really does is let me get tanks because I'm not silly enough to attack mass sunkens with marines. Anyway, as I'm getting tanks, I see this thing morphing by my base? Huh? Oh, it's a creep colony. A creep colony? My 20 marines investigate and find an offensive hatchery, guarded by 16 lings. I kill the lings, then the colony, then the hatchery. And chuckle to myself.
A new scan reveals that he has now 3 hatcheries in his main, but no lair yet. Eggs are making zerglings. I make 2 factories and a 3rd barracks, as well as leave a point marine outside from each direction to spot any more hatchery cheeze.
So I get 36 marines and 10 tanks (wanted to show some power :) ) and send them to just outside his base. On the way they run into a point zergling. Now he knows I'm coming. So his 80 or 90 zerglings all attack in a nice single file line. They must have learned how to line up in single file in elementary zergling school. Since my unsieged tanks (remember I'm en route) are doing more damage per shot than the marines are, the lings all try to go after them. It's too bad that the marines were guarding the tanks, again. I kill all the zerglings without a single loss.
I then say two words out loud to him: "Uh oh."
He then leaves the game.
Lessons Learned:
1. Marines and tanks are hard to stop as Zerg.
2. Newbies play Zerg too.
3. A lot of people are impressed by my record for some reason. hehe. :) |
