Lifetime Rating for V-Dan: 1.0000 |  | Hiya Everyone! This is my first report, and since I got back from Japan, I decided to do a br about the most popular game in Japan, Street Fighter III!
In case you are not familiar with Street Fighter III, or the series for that matter, this is a little summary. Street Fighter III is in the category of fighting game. It is like the Street Fighter II, not the new VS. series. There are a variety of character you can choose from, ranging from the Shotos to the pixies. There are 6 buttons in total, 3 punches and 3 kicks. In the beginning of the match, you are to choose a "Master Art", or "super" for us normal people. On the menu, they explain the motion to execute the move.
I was fortunate enough to witness this while a big tournament is going on. This a a quarterfinals match.
ON WITH THE MATCH!!! WOOHOO! This battle was between 2 Japanese players. This was played in the Akahabara district of Tokyo, aka the Video Game capital of the world. Sodom-V used Ken, a very popular character to choose from. Ken is usually over zealous and is not intended to use as a defensive character. You are to attack constantly and consistantly, since his attacks do not do much damage. BAS used Remy, a variation from Guile, who is quite defensive, but is able to convey offensive as soon as it is needed. The super Ken chose was the Shinrai-Jipuu-Kyaku, and Remy used Somersault Flash Kick.
Round one of the match was a preliminary one, with both players sizing each other up. Ken and Remy both throw out their projectiles, and dash foward afterwards. Ken pokes a bit with crouching light kick, but he is being a tad careless because of the amount of time poking. Remy takes advantage of the fact and does the lunging kick, followed by a somersault kick. Ken is not faring so well, by the fact that his super bar is nearly empty and Remy's is full. Ken is aware he is in trouble, so he creates some room to evade Remy. Remy can sense this, and he pushes on. This was Ken's plan, though, and he performs the Shoryuken! Ken now has 1 level in his super meter and he now has an incentive to attack. He does a standard combo of jumping fierce, crouching foward, shoryuken cancel to super. With this combo alone, Remy is in the red danger part of his health bar and he is erratic. Soon all he is doing is throwing projectiles, while Ken parries them. It is clear that Ken wins this match as he catches Remy with a shoryuken.
You can never base anything by the first round. BAS figures he has caught on to Sodom-V's evasive/attacking plan, so he does something very weird indeed. He starts out with a hop kick, using MP+MK to initiate it. This is obviously ticking of Ken, who has no patience and no desire to wait. Ken goes for the same combo which killed Remy before, but it is blocked due to repetitiveness. Remy does his super, which takes off nearly half of Ken's health. Yet, Ken still attacks and it pays off. Remy does not think of a further attack, so he throws projectiles to win by time default. Just when he throws one more out, Ken jumps and kicks, does shoryuken and cancels into the super! This surprise brings the whole room to applause as Sodom-V wins the match.
Congradulations to Sodom-V and I hope you go on to win the semis. I hope you all enjoyed this battle report as this was my first. Pictures will come up afterwords.
