Orcish chieftain Blarg.Elfkiller reports on a glorious victory over the human forces led by ekolite.
Let it be known that a brave and glorious legion of loyal orcish warriors has laid waste to an encroaching settlement of despicable human scum in the elf-, troll-, ogre-, gnoll-, and dragon-infested forests of Lordaeron.
Establishing ourselves in the southwest corner of Tranquil Paths, we began training grunts and a blademaster as quickly as possible without any thought of scouting for the enemy. Miscommunication and a food shortage delayed the production of troops, but by nightfall, the hero Toljara ventured from the camp with a minuscule contingent of three grunts with reinforcements ordered to pursue him when their training had finished. The party's first conquest was a small group of sleeping ogres and trolls. Toljara's blade dealt considerable damage even when he was unable to land his critical hit and the former allies of the horde were easily overcome.
Using a crystal ball dropped by one of the ogres (who were almost certainly ignorant of its true value), Toljara scouted the likely locations for an enemy base from afar, spotting a human encampment to the northeast guarded by a single untried archmage. The hunting party grew bolder upon realizing that they had developed much faster than the enemy. With the war mill at home only beginning production, they began to explore northward, augmented by a handful of reinforcement grunts. On the way, they met and massacred a pack of gnolls who gave up minimal treasure but allowed Toljara to harness his mirror image ability.

Not yet willing to make a direct assault on the humans, Toljara led his forces to another band of inferior races, surrounding the ogre mauler who led the group while they slept. The blademaster then cast a mirror image of himself, ordering it and the rest of the party to attack. Feeling the imaginary sting of an illusory sword, the ogre foolishly turned his anger on the mirror image and was promptly hacked to bits by the real Toljara and the rest of his warriors, despite the futile attempts of the troll priest to heal him. The rest of the group fell the same way, leaving important books of wisdom for Toljara to peruse.
With the war mill completed, a stronghold under construction, and troll headhunters being trained to join the group, Toljara's party took on an even more powerful gang of ogres. Although the mirror image was not as successful, two maulers, a mage, and several trolls were overcome well before the first loyal horde trolls arrived, leaving behind an even more valuable tome of experience that enhanced the power of Toljara's critical strike, as well as boots of speed.

The blademaster ventured west to engage another pack of gnolls and gained yet another level, but now there was just as much excitement in the base camp. At this time, construction of the stronghold was completed and peons immediately began constructing bestiaries with the aim of producing more deadly warriors than grunts for the impending attack on the human forces. Some workers were so excited to welcome the noble beast riders into the base that they abandoned their posts at the war mill. After seeing the human encampment in its infancy few of us believed that the humans would have time to acquire air support. Therefore, the raiders were rushed through training without regard for their otherwise powerful ensnaring nets.

Still in the field and spotting the archmage Shal Lightbinder approaching them from behind with a small hunting party, Toljara's group immediately gave chase. It was evident that Lightbinder still had not seen a genuine battle and, not surprisingly, he ran away. Our warriors could not keep pace with his soldiers, and instead they settled for slaughtering a single sentry left behind to watch the mana pool. With resources still pouring in during the construction of new buildings, a spirit lodge was started and an expansion was created near the center of the map to handle the high cost of a raiding party.
Toljara was impatient to attack the human settlement. Believing that Lightbinder had left again in search of new hunting ground, he led his party into the base without raiders. The archmage was in fact still in the base, but with such laughably insufficient protection that Toljara pressed the attack. After the few soldiers guarding the base had been vanquished, the humans chose the coward's last resort and attacked in force with their peasant militia, far outnumbering and killing the noble grunts and trolls who had served the campaign so well. Toljara remained among the humans long enough to confront Shal face to face and return him to the spirit realm by force, then teleported back to the base camp, leaving the militia to wonder what had transpired.

Gathering the scattered forces that had halted on the way to assist him in the first attack on the humans, and joined by the first raiders to arrive from the bestiary, Toljara left the base again. The party encountered a powerful ogre lord but, not willing to attack with such a small force, they settled for demolishing a nearby group of midlevel golems and trolls while the remaining raiders were trained. The blademaster and his reinforcements met in front of the lord's den and immediately charged in for the kill, destroying the ogres and enabling Toljara to use his fearsome bladestorm with only minimal losses among the raiders.
Forces had just begun massing for the assault on the human camp when some of the arriving reinforcements spotted the resurrected Shal Lightbinder (still less than half as experienced as our blademaster) accompanied by a marginally more effective party. Toljara attacked the hero without hesitation. Witch doctors paralyzed the ground forces, which were then mowed down helplessly by Toljara's bladestorm as troll headhunters casually picked off the gryphons soaring overhead. Lightbinder cast several blizzards during the battle, but managed to miss the orcish horde almost entirely while causing considerable damage to his own soldiers. While on the way to the camp yet again, Toljara's party discovered an unguarded expansion and leveled it within seconds. These two successes bolstered our confidence.

When the attack on the enemy finally came, it was disappointing. The party met Lightbinder for a third time outside and killed him almost instantly. Toljara was heavily wounded and eventually killed by gryphons against whom the party had inadequate countermeasures due to a lack of both trolls and ensnare training. Undaunted, the remaining raiders tore through a barracks and then attacked the human castle, reducing it to a few rickety walls before finally succumbing a second time to the peasant militia. The castle was still standing, but disappointment soon changed to bloodthirsty jubilation. A lone raider who had witnessed the battle while riding to join Toljara charged bravely through the remaining defenses and leveled the entire structure with two blows of his sword, giving up his own life for the success of the horde as he was quickly surrounded and killed afterward.
Another expansion was built, the gold mine from the base having collapsed after the fall of the human castle, and again all available capital was put into training raiders and trolls and upgrading their equipment while the blademaster began his return journey into this world. When the group was assembled, they traveled immediately toward the human base with the intent of destroying every man and building in sight. But the humans had different plans.
The group encountered a handful of knights and killed them with little trouble. However, they had traveled with a large contingent of gryphon riders, which methodically targeted our trolls until none were left. Powerless to stop the flying creatures without their nets, the riders rode around helplessly as Toljara was targeted by their irritating hammers.
Few orcs are capable of withstanding repeated blows from mythical hammers but Toljara, barely wounded after the encounter, volunteered to withstand the aerial attack for as long as it took to bring the gryphons down. Plans for the destruction of the human base were put on hold while a large squadron of trolls was trained in the base and Toljara led the human riders on a wild chase throughout the paths, leading them everywhere except our base camp. When he finally approached our corner of the forest, the headhunters met him halfway. Toljara cast his mirror image, confusing the gryphons, as the trolls brought them down with lethal accuracy.
When the last gryphon fell, the human commander surrendered! This was surprising at first, but on examining his base camp, we discovered only a small amount of gold. The humans did not have enough resources to reconstruct their town halls after they were destroyed. The nameless raider who destroyed the castle had won the battle for the orcish horde.
Observations on my side:
---Mirror Image was only properly used once. :)
---It's shamefully true that I forgot to upgrade while building bestiaries. Always watch your tech buildings.
---Never fight the militia! If you run, the worst scenario is being followed for 30 seconds while your opponent loses resources.
---Stasis trap was poorly utilized. Just imagine if the militia had been trapped properly at any time.
---Stasis trap generally sucks anyway so you should go for healing ward.
---Always get ensnare! The build time is painful to watch, but it will be worth it.
---Ultimate spells rock :)
Observations on the opponent:
---Get soldiers and hunt as soon as possible! Ekolite's conservative opening lost the game.
---The expansion was a good idea but poorly placed. I had already attacked from that direction several times.
---Never leave your buildings damaged after repulsing an attack.
---Always remember how much gold it takes to build a town hall in case of emergencies.
As always, nothing in this battle report is meant to reflect badly or personally on my opponent, who was completely mature and respectable. It was a good game and I look forward to the next one. :)
