"I hope you don't have homework to do!?"
Actually he does - still, he feels the need for one last match before settling down to do it. The Join Game screen refreshes with a small list of <sarcasm>quality</sarcasm> games to choose from, but Michael is in the mood for a nice 1v1 where he can "Bring It" - what luck!
After the usual pleasantries KvM`TheProud, starts the countdown, both players choosing to random on the nostalgic map-
The game starts with KvM`TheProud cloning his Drones to 4 of the 6 mineral patches while simutaneously spawning a 5th at his Hatchery. A second later, the first of many Overlords starts the journey South-East to randompubbie's Terran base which begins in a similar fashion with the cloning and the training and what not.
Both players know it's an Island map, they start their build orders with this is mind -
KvM`TheProud morphs an Extractor at 9(supply) and a Spawning Pool at 11 in prerequisition for an early Lair. He pumps Drones until 300 minerals and starts a second Hatchery. A few seconds later as his Lair finishes, KvM`TheProud plants a Spire.
Playing a little sloppy, randompubbie's 9th SCV starts a Supply Depot following shortly after with a Barracks at 10 and Refinery at 11. By this time, KvM`TheProud's scouting Overlord is making its rounds through the Terran base, officially turning RvR into TvZ. randompubbie continues with his construction, adding a Factory, second Barracks and eventually a Starport and Academy - all the while training a treacle of Marines.
After several dry minutes, randompubbie ignores the practicality a Comsat would provide and sends his Factory North-West to the yet undiscovered Zerg base. Just before reaching the central canyon, a pack of Mutalisks appear before the defenseless Factory. The Zerg flyers ignore the building and head towards randompubbie non-floating structures. Scattered Marines caused KvM`TheProud to retreat his small air force, who instead decided to have a go at that Factory. At speeds in excess of mach 0.00006, the Factory was able to return to the safety of a sizable M&M group, and the caring Fusion Cutter of one very special SCV. randompubbie adds a Comsat immediately after.
Entertaining thoughts of an attack, randompubbie brings forward a pair of Dropships and prepares to make a shuttle run. Hovering menacingly above his natural are KvM`TheProud's dozen or so Mutalisks. The 7/8 & 8/8 Dropships make their way towards the canyon but are blocked by the Mutalisk pack. randompubbie pulls them back while KvM`TheProud pursues with a proximal pair of Scourge, taking out the terribly placed 7/8 Dropship.
Back home, KvM`TheProud drops a Drone in his natural, morphing it into a Hatchery.
With the standoffish antics of the Mutalisks, randompubbie gathers his immediate forces to try and take his own natural. Once again 2 Dropships are employed - The first drops 4 Marines to the East of the Mutalisks before dying to Scourge. KvM`TheProud's Mutalisks automatically attack but are pulled away, giving the second Dropship a safe landing zone. 2 Medics and 6 Marines are deployed followed soon after by another Medic and 7 Marines. KvM`TheProud retreats the Mutalisk pack to his natural expansion and sets up perimeter Scourge patrols along his side of the canyon. randompubbie starts construction on a 2nd Command Centre inside his main. A small hit and run attack by KvM`TheProud fails to cause any interruption and the game goes on.
A botched attack from KvM`TheProud reduces his Mutalisk numbers by half. With randompubbie's natural expansion now up and running, he decides to counter.
3 Dropships are loaded to capacity and head West. randompubbie, aware of the Scourge patrol, sacrifices a Science Vessel to clear the airways above the canyon. The M&M unload under a sentry Overlord, alerting KvM`TheProud to the iminent attack. randompubbie moves his troops North meeting head on with the majority of the Zerg's attacking forces. The fighting is fierce and casualties mount on both sides, Zergling and Marine blood cover the creep turning it not purple. The M&M seem to have the upper hand, until a pair of just morphed Guardians take over. Around the time of the last Marine's death, a second wave of M&M arrive to the south, the surviving Medics now making a 1:1 ratio of M&M in the area.
KvM`TheProud morphs Lings from his immediate Hatchery and Hive in preparation for a follow-up attack. The attack comes and once again the Guardians prove descisive, all Marines are slaughtered leaving greiving Medics to stand around weeping. KvM`TheProud pulls 1 of the 2 Guardians away from his main, placing it above randompubbie's natural. The Guardian is able to get several SCV kills before a trans-canyon Science Vessel irradiates the beast. The Guardian moves point blank on the mineral line to expose the SCVs to it's radioactive body but dies before doing any real damage.
Time for round 3 at the Zerg main - and again, Terran reinforcements from the south are grouped with the previous survivors. KvM`TheProud, running low on resources and troops, adds Lurkers to his arsenal. The M&M force plants itself in range of KvM`TheProud's Hive, taking it out with little resistance. A single Lurker is dropped into the main, and burrowed, and killed. The Marines quickly take control of the Zerg base, leaving KvM`TheProud with just his natural.
Now all that remains for randompubbie is to stroll in with a few Marines and clean up - or so he thinks! 14 Marines are dropped to the south of the Zerg expansion. They march in with guns blazing - and are systematically murdered 1 by 1 by various Zerg nasties.
KvM`TheProud then plants a single Lurker below the Terran expansion mineral line. Although it is picked up and irradiated quickly, the Lurker manages a dozen kills before popping.
Two small M&M strikes fail thanks to some viscious Lurker/Sunken/Drone defense. randompubbie plays it safe by Irradiating the remaining 2 Lurkers. KvM`TheProud admits defeat and surrenders.
As Michael returns to a random chat channel, a voice comes from the door - "Man would you hurry up!? It was my turn on the computer 10 minutes ago and I'm late for some clan meeting in MY honour!"
"Yeah, yeah, I just finished. You'll have to relog though." he says as he hops out of the comfortable computer chair, giving way to his older brother April. "Oh and also, don't touch any of my replays, I named some wrong and I have to sort through them."
"Uh huh," April mumbles insincerely, typing in his account password...
