The Stage is set:
I'm hunting for a reasonable ladder game and settle on the generic ladder 1000+++ game on, yes you guessed it, Lost Temple. The game statistics:

Map: Lost Temple
Playas:
Fractal_Wave: Yellow Protoss(random)
(definetly a playa)
[s]4159: Brown Zerg(random)
(not so sure)

**note: i may have messed up my opponents name..its close..**

BEGINNINGS
I warp my nexus in at 6:00. Protoss. Yehaw. The race i havn't played in over a week. w00p. Oh well. I decide to make the best of a less-than-opitmal situation, throw down a pylon, and send the probe a-scouting.

I'm at 6:00, so I scout 3:00 first, and what do I see there? A brown Overlord scouting 3:00 too.
Synopsis: Brown Zerg @ 12:00. Watch for lurkers
I send my probe in for further information, and he...he? probes have no gender...and what about SCVs and Drones? are they all male?? Let's have some politcal correction in our battle reports people.
ANYWAYS: My probe confirms my lurker rush hypothosis. Gas is already up, spawning pool is almost done. I run my probe around a bit to annoy the Zergie before retreating back to base. And a drone follows me!
"AHA" says i. "here's a wonderful chance to mess with this poor zergie's head.."

I send my probe back towars 9:00...and about 1/2 way there i turned Mr. Probe around and lay the smackdown on the drone...just like i would if 9:00 was my highly private main base.

Back home at 12:00, i've got two gates going, and bust out a forge to prevent lurkers...little would I know how much my @ss would be saved by that forge...

I get two zeals up and send them to harras the lurker-rushing zerg scum...and hopefully kill him. Some less-than skilled lurker rushers will build NO defense and you can kill them very fast and very easily.

Not this guy though...my zeals run into 4 zerglings as they march up the ramp. Fodder. I keep on going and see a sunken just building by the spawning pool. I attempt to kill it, but it finished building and with some zergling support, i get taken out.

An overlord shows up about now to annoy me. Fortunetly I was going to lay down some cannons anyways, so it was no bother. The overlord leaves just a fast after seeing the ominous form of a photon cannon warping in under him. I also lay down a cannon at my ramp to avoid any unwanted lurkering.

So, I decide on the order of the day: Zealot this guy until he breaks. I'm gambiling that I can take this guy out before he gets his lurkers up. Soon, three more zealots head out to raise a little hell. I build an assimilator as my zeals leave my base.

*plod* *plod* *plod*
Damn but zealots are slow. FINALLY my strike force reaches the enemy ramp, but are spotted by an Overlord. Dam. I race to get up the ramp before it gets clogged by zerglings with hydra support. I reach the bottom of the ramp, and WHAM. A small horde (8 or so) lings run into my zealots. Fortunetly, because of the choke, only 3 lings can hit my zeals at a time, where as I have 3 zeals hitting one ling...then the next...then the next...

A very important note to Zerg players: NEVER use zerglings at a choke unless you have hydra support. They'll get slaughtered by Zealots or Firebats. You want to use 'lings on open ground, where they can surround their targets, and get 4 or 6 'lings hitting a single zealot.

I take out the zerglings with no losses, but four more come in support before I make it up the ramp. But thank God he has no hydras
*censored: exessive violence*
I remove these feeble threats to my well being, and hurry up the ramp, with one healthy zealot, one in the red, and one in-between. To be met by that same old sunken, and four more lings. This could be trouble. I deal with the lings, but now have 3 HIGHLY damaged zealots who have to take out a sunken...and one dies...then another...then the sunken pops in a shower of red goo! I promise my lone zealot a bubble bath when he gets back and set him to drone killing...by this time I've got another 4 zeals chilling at home...I send them up towards the Zergie's base, almost sure that i've won.

DISASTER
Right about now I'm thinking:
"Man, what a newbie...he's lurkering and I can't even see a hydra den...he's got a lair, but no den...man he sucks..."
I'm sure all you good players out there who read this can figure out what' going to happen to me...but while I was playing I was SURE that he was busting it up to lurkers...and I can imagine him laughing at my feeble zealots...

As the giant egg beside the lair bursts open...sopping wet limbs stretch with glee...a horrbile scream rips through the air...as a mutalisk pops out of the egg and removes my zealot with one volly.

Right now I'm thinking:
"Oh. My. God. I'm. Dead. Mutalisks. Mutalisks. MUTALISKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I went in to panic mode: brought those zeals back to my cannon at my choke, slammed a cybercore down, transfered 2 probes to gas for a total of 3, and broke the bank building 4 cannons stratigically around my base, protecting my mineral line and cybercore.

I wait. And I wait...my core finishes and I bust out a dragoon out of each gate. My plan is to hit him with these few dragoons, take out his muties (he's only got one base he can't have too many) and then raze his spire.

Soon as my goons are done, i send 4 zealots + 2 dragoons at him. And I'm met by 6 muties around mid-map. This is bad. My goons stay and hold them for a while, as my zeals run like sixty to reach the opposing spire...but I see and expansion at his natural, and decide to kill it instead.
In retrospect, I think that might have been a bad decision. If i had killed his spire, i could have taken him out on the ground while it was rebuilding...but if I had missed the spire, he would have had an expansion up and running. I chose the safe option: Kill the hatchery.

My 4 noble zeals begin beating on the 1200 (i think) hit points of the hatchery. The mutie finish up with my goons and race back to assault my zeals. During the chaos I throw down a another gateway, and get a complete cirle of cannons around my base. It should be noted that as these cannons were placed rather hastily, they could not cover each other very well at all.

Meanwhile, back on the playing field, my zeals are pounding away at the hatchery. Will they kill the hatch before the muties kill them? One zeal dies, but the hatch is down to 400 HP...YES! The hatchey bursts in to nothingness, and my 3 zeals run up the ramp to assault the Spire. One is killed enroute, and alas the remaining two get in barely 3 hits each before 2 more muties hatch and kill them.

So, I have two dragoons, two more building and 5 or 6 badly placed cannons to kill 8 or more muties...Not good odds. I throw down a Citadel of Adun to get that mutie-killing pimp-daddy-o, the high templar. I also research Singularity Charge to add much-needed range to my Dragoons

WAVE # 1
Ten Muties come in through my backdoor...to find it slammed in their faces by two photon cannons and 4 dragoons running like track stars to get to those damnable muties. Unfortunely, my probe line was between me and him, and I had a HELL of a time maneuvering around my busy probes.

My 1st cannon explodes, and my goons STILL arn't there. My goons arrive just before the 2nd cannon goes bye-bye. By now 1 mutie is dead.

9 Mutalisks vs. 4 Dragoons in the WWF King of the Ring SHOWDOWN!!!
Care to take bets? =)
I start blasting away at the muties, get 2 more building, and smack down a cannon under the muties.
Naturally my goons start melting, but he takes some time-off goon killing to kill my warping cannon, which I cancel just before it dies. However, by now we're down to 1 goons vs. 4 muties or so. Grim Grim Grim. GGRRRIIIIMMMM
Then, ALLELUIA!! Singularity charge finishes, and my two extra goons pop out. w00p. With the +2 range, I can hit the muties without going through my probeline. life is good. And, even better, my goon fire draws the muties towards my other cannons!
*pop*

I've dealt with wave #1. But at a cost. I'm right on the ropes now, and he knows it. Expect a 2nd wave soon.

I rebuild one cannon, and grab a few more dragoons. I also start building my templar archvies. If i can get Psi-Storm, I'll be back in the game.

Wave #2 comes along, see the almost-completed templar archives, and realize that if i build that his muties will never be safe again. He removes the rebuilt cannon with ease, and aims for the archives. But i've got 2 cannons around it, and I beat back this wave, losing both cannons and all but one of my goons.

Now, here is where I went a little batty. Instead of holding the archies will all my might and getting psi-storm, i built a dark templar.
'WHAT!??!! A D-TEMP vs. a ZERG???? Hello, OVERLORDS??"
yes yes yes i know. But i was betting that he'd have little or no ground defense, and that all his muties would be commited to pounding me into the ground.

"Adun Toredas" My bad@ss ninja of a templar warps in and heads off to the Zergie's natural to wreak some havoc. Mean while, Wave #3 shows up at my door.

Again, it's 6+ muties vs. 4 goons + some cannons. He kills my outlying cannon and comes in for the templar archives. Defend, defend defend...built a cannon, distract him, cancel it, bust it out with more goons....pray...
*KA-BOOM*
is the sound of a templar archies blowing up. Not a happy sound. But, as he specificall hit my archives, i took him out before he could do any more damage.

During all this my assassin shows up at the zerg natural. He's hit once by the sunken there before he's out of detection range...he proceeds to remove the sunken with extreme prejudice...He also distracted my opponent from his Mutalisk control, so I could lure them towards more cannons. I begin attacking his hatchery, hoping against hope to remove it before any defenders come. An overlord floats over and detects me...this is bad...it's only a matter of time...until an egg spawns 2 zerglings and i bust out laughing. My dtemp spends a slash on each of 'em, then leaves for fear of marauding mutalisks. He continue to harras the base for a nice long while, until a mutie and an overlord remove him. He died well

I frantically rebuild my Archives, on the other side of my base from where the muties usually arrive. thanks to my harrasing Dtemp I get 2 cannons up beside my archives, and get a few more (6 or so) goons. In fact, wave 4 consists of only four muties...on a scouting run....hmm. what could he have planned for me. My archives is up, and psi-storm is being researched. I've got about 12 goons and a single, stormless Templar.

I have an epiphany. I decide to see what's outside my base. I send all 12 goons and my templar out to look. I see an overlord, and I see a horde of zerglings...who charge into my goons and do quite a bit of damage before my goons kill them, then my templar gets iced by some muties who swoop in whil I'm occupied with the 'lings. I pull back my goons to my cannons and remove the rest of the muties from the scene, winning by 2 goons. But my archives are untouched. w00p. I immidiatly start training a templar and two zealots. I send my zeals out scouting, all the while getting more temps and goons. I get the two zeals in to the middle of the map, and they are eradicated by a bunch of muties. But now i've got storm.

TURNING POINT

The mutie horde (18+) attack my 12 goons and 2 temps full on. I've got one storm in each templar.

Ownage. I lose one goon.

I also realize that i've got 2 mineral patches left. I build a few more goons and then send 12 goons, two templar and two probes to my natural to expand. Finally.
I leave 4 goons and two templar defening my main, 2 goons and one templar n each side. I'm expecting a mutie strike, and I'm not dissapointed. 12 muties again try to sneak in through the back door.
12 Mutalisks vs. 2 Dragoons and a Templar in the WWF King of the Ring SHOWDOWN PART II!!!
This sequel was better than the original, but it should have been sub-titled "Protoss Revenge"
The muties aim for one of my cannons. I psi-storm them.
8 muties die. The muties run and attack the other cannon. I psi storm them. They all die.
Results:
Protoss - 12
Zerg - 0
=)
I rotated my templar, got my expansion online, and proceeded to get a robo facilty + observatory. My two observers scour the map for expansion, but only find two: one at his natural, and one at the 3:00 start. Ok. I can deal with this. I take 12 goons, 2 templar and two observers on a mission. I also smack down two starports and commence corsair building.

I expand to my minerals-only natural to fund mo' dragoons

I walk up to his xpansion, eliminating 2 overlords on the way, and kick it's ass. I know it's undescriptive, but it's 12 goons vs. a hatchery. I kick it's ass.

ENDINGS

I then truck my horde over to the 9:00 starting spot...I thought my corsairs has seen some creep there, but they were wrong. However, my scouting observer (looking for lurkers) did see 8 or 9 overlords moving ominously towards my main.
Shit. That's a lot of troops. my 7 corsairs begin overlord popping, but the 'lords have speed and i only kill one before they arrive. I have 3 templar + 6 goons at my main, to deal with over 30 hydras.

No problem.

Did i mention that those templar are carrying patented Khaydarin Amulets, and are fully charged to 250 energy each?

Even then, the Zergie drops his hydras over a large area, so when all is said and done, there are 3 hydras attacking my corsairs. All ther overlords are dead, and there is a LOT of hydra blood over the ground. Then the cavalry shows up, in the form of my 12 goons. I win. And my energy-spent temps turn into archons, and i take 2 temps, 12 goons and 2 archons on a march to his main. I send my observers up ahead and see about 12 hydras on defense between his choke and his natural. A templar goes on a suicide storm and kills about half of them. The archons kill the rest, and my 11 goons + 1 temp walk into his natural.

Fractal_Wave: w00p.

Final Kill Count: 178 Zergies dead, 51 Protoss Dead

LESSONS LEARNED

1.) Psi-Storm OWNS.
2.) Don't Ever give up. I thought I was dead after the 1st mutie wave, but I somehowmanaged to win.
3.) Singularity Charge Makes Dragoons Better. Lots Better.
4.) Writing really long battle reports makes you un-creative by the end
5.) Expand when you've got your opponent contained. I came out of that mutie-wars with one base, and my opponent wsa just setting up his third base.
6.) Probes, Probes, Probes. Economy wins games
7.) Zerg can't stop psi-storm defense with troop masses alone. A few well-placed Broodlings or Plagues would have had me crying and pulling my hair.
8.) Psi-storm Owns.

And once more, just for the record
Own: v. To control, to possess or dominate. Esp. Protoss vs. Zerg Matchups involving Psi-Storm

And I'm sorry there are no screen shots...i was busy during all the best spots. To help you imagine the game, imagine that:
a.) When I was on the ropes, I was ON THE ROPES. I was near-death after each wave.
b.) When I was owning, I was owning. Obscenly owning. It was not even funny how much I cut him down with Psi-storm.

I don't know why the little '' are in after every comma or quote mark. sorry.

And to my Opponent, Good Game, I hope I got your name right, and I hope i didn't miss anything.

All the best,
Fractal_Wave
