"The Science Vessel also notices that a High Templar is about to cast a spell on a Sieged Tank; in the nick of time, it is matrixed and weathers the storm (pun intended)" -Rumpelstiltskin

Evastorm, Terran (heh), top right.
Me: Watching the game from RabidReaver's computer =)
First of all, for a full understanding of this game and how funny it was you need a little background. I know both RabidReaver and Evastorm in real life (those aren't their real names if you haven't guessed ;), but RabidReaver had moved to another town at the beginning of the year and had just come up for the holidays. Evastorm was boasting about how great a player he was to RabidReaver who had only played previously at my house before he left. Now, RabidReaver was loathe to fight someone with a lot more experience, but chatting over ICQ on my computer he eventually agreed to a duel when Evastorm agreed to play Terran against his Protoss =)
And so the stage was set...
It began fairly normally from my point of view (which was hindered by only being able to watch RabidReaver): 2 gates, a few zealots for defence & recon and prgressing to gas & cyber core. RabidReaver found Evastorm's base fairly early and Eva responded with a wee little SCV of his own. A few minutes into the game, when Reaver was just getting his first gas (and warping an assimilator too ;) his probe wandered to the bottom right position and found a half-built expansion with crap all defence!
}:)
Eva was obviously trying to get a resource boost over Reaver early on, thinking the relative newbie wouldn't be quick to attack. How wrong he was... :)
At the prompting of the impartial observer (yours truly :), Reaver prepared his zealots and first 2 goons to pay a visit. While they were walking their slow way down, Reaver also got a Citadel & Archives and began to build a few of his favourite unit - Dark Templar... heh.
When the small army of 7 Zealots & 2 Goons (all still 0/0 at this point) reached the bottom right position they walked straight through the choke which Eva was only now building a bunker at and straight into the expansion =) Reaver showed his newbieness by attacking Eva's depots there but since he appeared to have built most of them at his expansion for some reason it did do some damage.
Wait on, did I mention the base's defences? Heh, oh that's right - 3 marines don't really constitute a defence do they? =)
Anyway, that expansion was razed to the...er...platform and by this time the darkie-happy Reaver had 5 of the cloaked assassins ready to rumble. Unfortunately for him, Eva knew of Reaver's fondness for the things so he had turrets scattered around his base and comsat ready too. The marines in the bunkers at the entrance didn't look like they were open to bribery, so Reaver concentrated on improving his economy... who knows? If you offer marines enough they might let you past... Terrans are renowned for their greed ;)
So Reaver took the expansion just below him and (with no prompting from me - honest! }:), put up a few 'Gates and brought in the Corsairs & Scouts as well as lotsa observers. Eva loves to nuke and the sooner the dropships went down the better!
Now some people just seem to have a thing for the cool-looking units, I don't know what it is... Reaver is one of those people who loooooooves Archons. Against a terran with a couple of Vessels flying around they're definitely not a good idea, but I couldn't convince him otherwise so he soon had half a dozen of the overgrown lightbulbs sitting at his choke... I did manage to convince him that the odd Templar ought to be left unwarped to provide... ahem... "bad weather" for Evastorm }:)
Still, Eva's Vessels must've been prowling around the edges of Reaver's expansion because a dropshit (oh I'm sorry, did I say dropshit? I meant dropSHIP of course... heh heh) slipped in the bottom and unloaded a ghost who proceeded to nuke a big 'ol chunk outta Reaver's probes =) A Templar finally got there to storm the prick but it was too late and a number of cannons and ALL the expansion's probes were lost. Luckily, Eva didn't follow through with the attack (the corsair/scout fleet was hovering ominously }:) and Reaver was able to repair and replace swiftly. Now, Reaver wasn't real happy with that and he doesn't call himself RabidReaver for nothing =)
Sending an Observer to the expansion between the two bases, Reaver spotted an expansion in the works... funny place to expand to but then, Eva aint the most... shall we say... "cunning" of players ;)
Well, by now Reaver had 3 Carriers and his bunch of Archons so he sent them in to eliminate the expansion. Evastorm wasted many minerals... I should probably teach him the benefits of cancelling construction when you're going to lose, no?
Still, a Ghost walked out of the fog towards the Carriers and locked down one of them before dying, so Reaver waited for the lockdown to run out, then retreated to fight another day.
Then came my favourite strat (really with no prompting this time) from Reaver - expansion grabbing! =)
He took the bottom left & right positions in quick succession and the scouting Observers revealed that his main and the expansion below him were the only places Eva's buildings were found. Now buying Carriers in earnest and upgrading them from 2 Cyber Cores (does that sound like the remains of a metal apple to anyone else?), Reaver also made a lot of Scouts to counter the expected Battlecruisers from Evastorm. I expected them, and Reaver expected them, but in probably the best move of his game, Eva didn't build them! =)
The fighting over the expansion between the two bases continued back and forth for awhile, and Evastorm kept trying to slip ghosts past Reaver's observers into his main. I was hilarious watching some of the attempts before he realised there must've been an observer watching that expansion. First there was the single ghost a couple of times who Reaver killed with his carriers for fun. Then Eva tried distraction, sending 8 or 9 Ghosts at once and only nuking with one of them... but Reaver Psi-Stormed them and I laughed =) but THEN Eva pulled a rather nice move... He pulled a medic and BLINDED the observer before he sent his ghost in...
Reaver didn't notice until the dreaded: *beep, beep* "Nuclear Launch Detected" message popped up and by then it was too late. The carriers were too slow and the nuke took out half of them and almost all of his ground troops which were poised to strike the expansion yet again. Reaver was left with only 4 Carriers, all damaged, and 3 Archons.
Reaver saw red...
Reaver went Rabid }:)
Although I was yelling at him that we was mad, Reaver sent his remaining carriers and archons into Eva's middle expansion with no heed as to their safety. There were so many goliaths in that expansion it amazed me... but somehow, with few micromanagement skills, Reaver killed them all! His Archons must have helped enormously, and with the loss of only 1 Carrier of the 4, Reaver left the expansion in ruins and moved right on into Eva's main! With his last surviving Archon, Reaver kamikaze'd the lone tank guarding the ramp and even took down the bunker there too while the carriers kept pounding on the meagre reinforcements Eva was trying to send. 2 Brand new Carriers flew over from Reaver's base and they joined the fight too. Eva's base was pitifully undefended and when the Carriers took down the last Turret he even sent his 3 lonely Dark Templar into the battle as well! =)
Eva didn't go down without a fight, though. He nuked his own base and killed all of Reaver's Carriers but when his comsat went down he had no way of finding the Darkies so he went into "give up mode".
It was quite humourous really, watching him fly all his buildings into the middle of Reaver's base and land them because Reaver had no air defence any more. And the convoy of SCVs that he sent to attack the cannons at the choke died pitifully too =)
Then the last building in Eva's lonely expansion went down and with a "lucky bastard", Eva quit to chat.
Needless to say, we both gave him crap for losing to a newbie... even with Terran }:)
Hey I can use HTML!
