It's BR time! Today we'll be covering an extraordinarly gruesome game on Tribes, which I imagine will soon be many people's least favorite map.

The Map: Tribes. Eight players, wide chokes, back doors.

The Teams:

In this corner...
Johnny_Vegas: Yellow Terran, Upper Right start location
Big-Penis(BliBleh): Randomed to White Terran, Upper Center
Whoop(TerranFlavor): Purple Protoss, Bottom Center

And in this corner...
KungFu_Joe: Teal Zerg, Middle Left
[TD]Rikus: Orange Protoss, Lower Left
Scarab: Blue Protoss, Lower Right

Let the mayhem commence!

Johnny and BP immediately surmise that Whoop is toast. Whoop's starting location places him directly between two enemy team members and his teammates are as far away as they could possibly be.

Build orders are frantic; the Protoss players (Whoop, Scarab, Rikus) open with the popular 2 gateway, 2 pylon tandem warp. BP chooses to wall in with three depots and two barracks, while Johnny contstructs three barracks for a large-scale infantry assault.

Scout SCVs, probes, and an overlord rapidly flow around the map like rush hour traffic and Whoop's unfortuante starting location is discovered.

To his credit, he's agressive... briefly. His exploratory/harassment zealots are smacked down by a growing army of blue protoss warriors from Scarab, his neighbor to the right. Scarab's three gateways are rocking and rolling non-stop and revenge in the form of a tidal wave of zealots in two colors and zerglings descends upon the unfortunate Whoop. The four defending zealots are buried under a pile of clawing zerg and flashing psi-blades. Whoop's base is razed to the ground, but a few probes escape to plant a final pylon in Johnny_Vegas's base.

Johnny's infantry force of marines, coming to assist his unlucky ally, are diverted to attack Scarab's encampment, which is assumed to be stripped for the assault. Johnny's marines hook up with his fellow Terran's forces and blast their way past a trio of defending zealots. Scarab's probes flee the mineral line; some are destroyed, but others make it to saftey as Rikus and KungFuJoe pour reinforcements in to save their beleagured comrades. The marines are torn down by a mass of orange-clad zealots and teal zerglings and Johnny's offensive bunker dies stillborn.

With Whoop all but eliminated and Scarab stalled but not stopped, Rikus and KungFuJoe move to counterattack. Scarab's gateways crank more zealots and he assists in the counterthrust. A large group of zealots and zerglings charge at Johnny_Vegas' main base and are met head on by medic-assisted, hopped-up flame-throwing firebats. The death-rate of the zealots is astounding as they meet the wall of napalm and rifle slugs. The attack does very little damage and the Terran duo romps down out of their bases for revenge.

Marines, firebats, and medics converge on Scarab's base, which was previously stripped of defenses. A lonely pair of dragoons is all the resistance that Scarab can muster and his probes again scatter before the Terran forces. Reinforcements from Rikus and Joe stream into the area and lay into the attackers. BP's small group of marines are overwhelmed by a large cloud of bloodthirsty probes(!) and beamed to death. Johnny's last action is to concentrate all fire on Scarab's nexus, oblivious to the zealots now tearing though his last few attacking forces. With a final burst of stimpack, the nexus crumbles and Scarab curses repeatedly. Without the money to build a new nexus and no expansions, he is effectively out of offensive operations. His assets total two dragoons and a handful of probes. He scatters these probes around to the land-side expansions for recon and surviellance.

All four remaining players have managed to gain themselves at least one expansion in the flurry and carnage of battle; Johnny and BP each have the mineral-only expansion to the rear of their main bases, and are working on cliff-side floats; Rikus has occupied two additional bases and is amassing a huge army. KungFuJoe also has an expansion and is producing large numbers of zerglings and a small attack group of lurkers.

During thier attacks, Joe and Rikus had discovered the lack of static detection in the Terran bases. Joe moves to capitalize upon this with a group of lurkers burrowing right in front of JV's infantry defenses. Johnny retreats his troops and a few dark templar and lurkers managed to set a few buildings afire before they are cleared out with comsat and stimpacked infantry fire. BP hurriedly constructs detecting missile turrets and continues on to siege tank tech.

Rikus and Joe abandon subtlety for raw power. A large group of dragoons and zerglings backed by a High Templar assault Johnny's base. With a lot of help from his next-door neighbor, BP, the assault is repelled with heavy casualties.

BP moves a dropship with a tank, three marines, and an SCV to the cliff above KungFuJoe's main base. The tank opens fire on the tech buildings below, but the three marines are unable to hold off the trio of mutalisks that respond. The assault is blunted and the dropship is destroyed.

Frustrated by their inability to eliminate Johnny_Vegas, another large group of dragoons, templar, hydralisks, and zergligns charge headlong at BP's fortification. The wall of defensive buildings begins to crumble under the onslaught and many marines give their lives; but a reinforcement convoy from Johnny_Vegas arrives to save the day with marines, firebats, medics, and siege tanks. The force is ravaged (two tanks sieged in range of a lurker) but BP's base, though roughed-up, remains intact.

It doesn't remain intact for long, however. Unhindred by attacks of any sort, KungFuJoe climbs the tech tree to guardians and uses four of them to batter through the tough defenses around BP's base. BP lifts his buildings into the air and begins to move away. The ponderous guardians bomb the remaining grounded structures as the game moves into it's final phase...

Johnny and BP are desparate now. They gather their forces for a final push into the heart of the zerg hive cluster. Infantry and tanks assemble and move in. As soon as the infantry engages, however, the tanks are caught from behind by a pack of dragoons and templar from Rikus! The tanks explode under concentrated phase disruptor fire and the infantry falls under repeated psionic storms.

A large group of guardians, now supported by dragoons and zerglings, pushes into Johnny_Vegas' nearly deserted base. A lone wraith leaps off the launch pad and blazes toward the guardians on full afterburner. It fires one missile salvo, eats five dragoon blasts, and explodes in mid-air. Johnny lifts what he can and moves it to his cliff-based expansion, but to no avail. Realizing his defeat, he resigns. BP follows his partner off the battlefield and the blood-soaked ground belongs solely to Rikus and KungFuJoe.

Good game, all parties involved. (:

Battle Shots!

Zealots versus flamethrowers? Heh.

The lurkers hit dirt in front of JV's hapless infantry.

The final, desperate Terran push.
