Welcome to my first Oblivion Report. We start out with our hero, the Dark Elf Orranon Drakar, Magician of the Mages guild, Swordmaster of the fighter’s guild, and Cutthroat of the Dark Brotherhood. He is lamely tasked with helping out some losers that are having trouble unearthing an Ayeleid Ruin.
Ayeleids were the High Elves of old, the original race.
There are four guilds. The fighter’s guild (lame), the mages guild (not so lame), the thieves guild (very cool), and the Dark Brotherhood (pretty cool). I have not yet joined the Thieves guild because I have been having a hard time finding the Garden of Dareloth, but have had some advice, and now know where to look. But first, the mages guild.
PART ONE
TEN DAYS BEFORE
Hear hear. Immediately after receiving my assignment from some guy I can’t remember, but he’s quite important, I fast travel to Harlun’s Watch, the closest to that place he needs me. I then walk to the excavation site, and open the wooden door that leads to the digging site. Once inside I scavenge around, and locate one of the mages. She tells me about this pillar that’s blocking their way, and using magic on it has disastrous side effects. She tells me that another guy is down there. I go down and talk to that guy. He tells me that there are Ayleid writings on the walls that may be a code, but the other mage has the translation book. He says he won’t ask her because he already did, and she said that it was a crackpot notion. I go up and ask for it, and she gives me the book. I then walk back down, give the guy the book, read the inscriptions on the walls, and then ask him for the translations.
I have to first cast a frost spell on the pillar, then a fire spell, then a fortify attribute spell, and then a drain spell on the pillar. It opens up and the guy tells me to go down alone, because it’s my honor. Yeah right. He’s obviously scared. I’m not. I am definitly at least ten times stronger than him, and could kill both mages easily. But I proceed.
I first find ghosts, and chop them up till they die, then steal their ectoplasm. They can not fire at me with their dreaded snowballs as my silver shortsword whacks them fast enough and strong enough to keep them stunned. I then proceed. I meet a few ancestral ghosts whom I untactfully yet successfully hack them down with my good ol’ silver blade.
((Silver weapons: Silver is very helpful because it effects undead drastically. While other weapons do not affect ghosts at all, silver weapons can put them in the netherworld pretty darn fast. This is why all guards carry silver and steel weapons. While typing this part I myself carry as weapons: Dwarven Dagger, Dwarven longsword, Bow of Shocking, Bow of Embers, a Dwarven bow, a silver shortsword, and a Sufferthorn. My Sufferthorn is my old anti ghost weapon, and still works pretty well because of its Drain Health, however I have to keep recharging it, which is costly, so I go with a silver shortsword that I can repair cheaply myself.))
I continue to go around picking up treasures and killing the numerous ghosts, when I enter a large room. I can’t walk up the center thing because the stairs are retracted, so I find the switch. I then climb up the stairs and see a covering device. I hit the switch and the covering device retracts. It’s an ancient elven helm! So what, really. The creepy, scary music plays, and I detect movement down below the center thing. I look across to the high place where I found the switch, and see a skeleton. Guarding a gate that had just opened. Ha! I fire a fireball at the skeleton to kill. The fireball (thanks to the obvious illumination) makes contact. Yet I can still detect the skeleton pacing back and forth. Anyways, I need to deal with the creatures below me. I use detect life, and three purple essences appear. From what I can make out, there are Zombies Down there. Ha! Easy! Only three Zombies and a skeleton. The infamous Ayleid traps have lost their reputation! I walk down the steps and brandish my silver blade. The only problem are the diseases.
Zombies and Diseases: There are many ways to catch diseases. The easiest and most annoying way to catch diseases is from zombies. Diseases decrease certain attributes depending on the disease. Oblivion has many diseases because it is a cool and well detailed game.
I meet a zombie, and hack and slash him, I then dodge out of the way of his stupidly slow arm swing (which usually stuns you and give you disease). I continue to quick slash him as another Zombie comes out of the darkness. I jump and run out of the way as both zombies swing again. I frown as I look upon the zombie I have just slashed. He has a full health meter! *Gulp*
I realize two things. 1: I was wrong about Ayleid traps. 2: I had read about this on the forums. The writer had a strength 20 enchanted blade, while I have a strength 9 normal blade, and strength 7 silver blade. This vile creature that is at full health currently is a Dread Zombie. I truly know that one is extremely hard to handle, as I can do almost nothing to it at a time, two is too many to do anything, and three means certain death. So I ran back up the center thing.
The Zombies cannot follow. I doubt I can do anything. But I decide to try anyways. Where there’s a will, there’s a way they always say. An idea forms inside my head. I pull out my bow and use fireball on the ground down below me. That attracts the three zombies to that area. I use Minor Life Detection so I get a good lock on them. I pull my bow back, and let loose a silver arrow at the one in front of me. The Dread Zombie in front of me falls back from the impact of the arrow, and sways, spraying out dried blood and flesh. Wonderful. I then fire four more arrows at my target. He drops to ¼ health. Ta Dah! However, I am out of silver arrows, and my dragon arrows (precious and few are they) will not cause enough damage to outweigh the Dread Zombie’s regeneration. I then use a last ditch attempt, my last secret weapon, someone I can depend on to give me the edge in combat, and help when I’m in trouble (like now). My Ancestor Guardian.
Racial Abilities: Out of the many races, each has two special powers. For Dark Elves, the powers are: resistant to fire (VERY helpful against the daedra, so therefore helpful in the main quest), and summon ancestral ghost. Summon ancestral ghost allows me once a day to allow me to summon an invulnerable ghost once a day for thirty seconds. This ghost fires dangerous and damageful frost balls.
“I summon my grandad, my eternal guardian. Using fire and frost, I and grandad finish off that weakened Zombie. It’s almost time for gramps to go. We fire at the second Zombie, dropping it to ¾ healths. Gramps then smiles and waves goodbye, having given me the courage and inspiration I needed.” I then steadily finish off the remaining zombies until none remain. I then retrieve four silver arrows, as one remains stuck inside the zombie. Now that I am done with that problem, I move up towards the stairs. I find out that the skeleton up there is in fact a skeleton lord. I am able to dispatch him, and continue on. I arrive back where the mage is. He tells me to go to the first mage. I comply, and complete the quest. I then go back to the mage’s tower, walk in, speak to the head of the excavation, and then speak to Raminus Polus, my master. He upgrades me to magician. I then go to speak to Arch Mage Traven for my next assignment.
I first go to take a rest. I fall asleep. I begin to dream…
PART TWO
THE BEGINNING
I am standing in a prison cell. I pace the prison cell ten times as the guy across the hall laughs at me. “Ha ha,” I think. I wish that I had not down what I had. I glance at the shackles on my hands. Oh man. I was going to be in here for a while, and I had probably been in here for only twelve hours, though it had felt like three days. Oh dea-. The person across the hall starts speaking to me. He tells me that he hasn’t seen a dunmer like me for a long time. He then says that since he’s getting out soon, he’ll find my wife, and marry her since I’m going to the block. I don’t have a wife, but I swear to kill him. I jerked up abruptly at the sound of foots clanking in the distance. I heard a young women’s voice along with an old man and a young man’s voice. The young man seemed to be saying: “Not much farther, My Lord.”
