Hello everyone and welcome to my first attempt at a battlereport. The game started shortly after I met Psy on ICCUP. He just kicked my butt pretty hard in a ZvP I had with him, though I like to think I did a great job with only 2 bases vs his 5-6 while still doing enought damage to keep him from just running me over. He should really focus on his macro a bit more.

Anyway, I had just finished playing that game and I figured I could get atleast one more game in before I went to bed. So I opened up the join game menu and clicked on a random 1v1 motw game. MOTW is short for map of the week and games played on these maps will net you 30% more points if you win and 30% less points will be lost if you lose. I saw my opponent had selected Protoss and I chose to use Zerg.

Map: longinus

Players:

Terranmenace, brown Zerg @ 11:00

Khabarovsk, blue Protoss @ 6:00

Early Game:

As we split our workers and began mining, Khab asked me where I was from. I told him California, and he said he was from Russia. Then he said something about a hotel or hotels but I had already lost interest in chatting and was trying to focus on getting a decent apm going. My build was a simple 13 hatch 12 pool while Khab opted to go for a classic 10/12 gate for zealot harassment and pressure. His first zealot arrived at my base to assist his probe in running away from 4 newly hatched zerglings. They meet up with 2 more zeals and run into my base, in order to avoid a morphing sunken. They fight admirably and make it all the way to my mineral line before being overwhelmed by zerglings.

Then, fearing a mass ling retaliation he walls off the choke to his natural with zealots while getting gas, a cybercore and a third gate. Once his cybercore is online he get a dragoon to shoot at my overlord and a forge for +1 weapons. Meanwhile I decide to add gas and 2 more hatcheries bringing my total to 4. I also get a total of 3 sunken colonies at my natural after seeing his large number of zealots. He gets a couple of cannons at his natural in preperation of an expansion while creating a stargate and a cosair for scouting and ovie hunting while pumping zealots and getting a citadel. I add a hydralisk den and take the 12:00 expo while pumping drones and upgrading to lair tech.

I feel worried about what he might be doing so I send a group of speedlings down to his base, they meet 15 zealots and a dragoon just leaving his base and I retreat them back to my natural while making a fourth sunken. His forces sweep aside my lings as if they werent even there and destroy 2 sunkens before reinforcements are able to help finally fight them off. He then builds a nexus at his expasion while upgrading zeal speed and constructing an archives while I plant down 3 evolution chambers and research lurker tech.

Mid Game:

Khab wasn't about to stop pressuring me just yet though, and a quick robo and shuttle later he dropped a DT into my base that proceeded to rape nearly all of my drones before I realized what was happening. He also sent a DT to take out the 12:00 base I had, and I didnt so much as lift a finger to save it. In fact, I countered with a lurker drop at his natural, killing a large number of probes before he could get a DT to stop it. I also began getting a hive and ultralisk cavern while loading up four ovies with crax to drop into his natural. They were met with an archon and a few goons and due to an initial misclick, only one ovie was able to unload and the entire drop failed to do anything but take half the shields off a pylon.

Soon Khab had an impressive army of zealots, archons, and dragoons while I had just started ultralisk production and had more cracklings than you could shake a stick at, as well as about 10 lurkers. My upgrades were 3/3/3 he only had +2 weapons and +1 armor.

Late Game:

I knew the only way I would be able to take him would be to dictate the battlefield, so to that end I started an expansion at my mineral only and surrounded it with my force of lurkers. I also started an expansion at the 9:00 expo hoping he didnt see it so I could use it as a failsafe if my plan didnt work. However he took the bait and before long his entire army had charged up and destroyed my morphing base and its lurker defenses, but the lurkers did a good job taking many zeals down to around half health. He then decided to attempt to end the game by attacking my natural head on but fell right into my trap. He was stonewalled by nearly a full group of ultralisks and flanked by around five groups of crax. His force was crushed and I swarmed right into his base. He held off for a good couple minutes until I dropped more ultraling into his natural and finally broke him.

What program do you use?

So as I was finishing off the last vestiges of his base, Khab starts asking me what program I was using. I ask him what he means and he says I must of been using a program to cheat because there was no way that after so many drone kills I would be able to get such a large force of 3/3 ultraling. I told him I dont cheat and he should watch the replay, but he insisted I cheated in some way and said he was gonna report me and that I would be banned from ICCUP. I laughed and he decided to be annoying by planting pylons all over the map but I was soon able to eliminate him from the game.

Aftergame:

When Khabs last pylon was destroyed, I noticed I had gotten 227 points for winning. My jaw dropped and I was confused at how I could have gotten so many points. So I did a quick /stats on khab and saw that he was a C- rank. I was really surprised at this, because I thought that players of his rank would be better, or atleast not be bm about losing. Looking at the replay, his economy was pretty anemic and he hardly even expod at all. My plan had been to use ultraling to gain some map control and mass expo everywhere, but I didnt quite need to do that after he made the mistake of running straight for my natural and getting destroyed by ultraling. Hey, atleast he didn't disc.
