Lifetime Rating for Dev: 7.8723 |  | I was doing my usual thing on Battle.net: Starting up 1v1 games on Fast speed on Brood War maps and waiting thirty minutes for people to join them. Then this happened.
The Map: Crescent Moon. I don't have an image for it, but it's twilight, with bases at 3:00, 9:00, the upper left, and lower right corners.
The Players:
Dev, the newbie killer. Randomed, Purple Zerg, 3:00.
microdude, the newbie. Chosen, White Zerg, Upper left.
Did you hear the one about...
I start the game up, seeing my opponent has chosen zerg. A hatchery and a blanket of creep appears before me. Hmm, Zerg. Zerg is probably my worst race, but from reading various battle reports and strategy posts, I decide that mutalisks and zerglings are a decent idea.
After sending my drones about their tasks, I send my initial overlord to the bottom right start, just below me. If he's there, this could be really ugly in a hurry.

What the heck is this? Is he trying to screw with my early build order by making me type, or is he hacking and he sees my base? I don't respond and instead simply go about my business.
Just to be on the safe side, I build an early spawning pool with my seventh drone for some fast zerglings.
My overlord finds the lower right spot to be empty. I'm breathing a sigh of relief and considering my options when I hear this:
microdude: were are you
Me: Sheesh. Like I'm going to tell you.
microdude: okay
microdude: were
We have a winner. This guy actually expects me to tell him where my base is?
Me: Are you new at this?
microdude: no ive been playing since this game came out
Hmmmm.
My six zerglings finish and I send them to the 9:00 location to scout. Deciding to risk it a little, I drop a second hatchery and an extractor.
9:00 is clear, and I send my zerglings to the last spot, the upper left, for a look around. At the choke they are met and devoured by probably twice their number of zerglings; I wasn't able to get an accurate count. As the vision faded and the fog of war returned, I see a still sizable number of white zerglings.
Uh oh, I think. I morph two sunkens, one near my initial hatchery and one near my second, close enough to also cover my extractor and spawning pool. My building placement is such as that the sunkens can cover each other and the entire base. I morph tweleve zerglings as quickly as possible while making drones to recover my economic situation. But no attack comes. Hmmmm again.
I morph a third sunken between my two, and morph a lair. A single white zergling dashes down into my base and is skewered by my trio of sunkens. Okay, he can't be that bad, he's scouting, right? I research zergling speed, realizing I haven't seen the inside of my enemy's base, and begin making a spire. The spire goes well down past my extractor, out of sight range of any scout that's likely to gain entry, save maybe an ultralisk. Just to be on the safe side, I place a few overlords over the morphing structure to hide it.
I send a single zergling to my opponent's choke, microing it to run past what looks like twenty to twenty-four zerglings sitting there. When I arrived, the zerglings were running toward my base, but upon seeing my scout, they ALL turn around and run after him. Heh heh heh.
My zergling cuts left at the thirty-yard-line and heads for the end zone, the whole enemy army in pursuit. My intrepid little guy streaks into the enemy mineral line, when what to my wondering eyes should appear?
microdude's current assets:
Twenty four or so zerglings
One Hatchery
One Spawning Pool
One Extractor
Two Drones
One drone is mining gas, the other is mining minerals. He must have only built one other drone or so, and pulled his others off to make buildings without replacing them. Wheeeee.
Six mutalisks finish morphing and I waypoint them around my new friend's choke and swing them into his base. There are now two drones mining minerals, and a hydralisk den... I think he figured out that he could build more drones. I smack down the hydra den, a single hydra, and all three drones. Two more mutalisks from home join my rampaging flapping flyers.
At this point, all of his zerglings charge my base. He outnumbers me two to one, but I wait until he commits to attacking my trio of sunkens before committing my own zerglings to battle. The resulting slaughter is mercifully brief. My zerglings then enthusiastically join my mutalisks in ripping what there is of his base to shreds.
