Well, I was hanging around in NoHunters, and, as usual, no one wanted to play. I decided to get some much needed practice as Terrans, so I switched to my smurf name and joined the first non-hunters game I saw, which was a two on two Lost Temple. The other three were already in, so after a little friendly chat we started.
My Command Center and Starting SCV's landed in the 9:00, which I took as a good omen. Two comsats! I proceeded with a rax on 8 depot on 10 wall in at my ramp. Soon after my SCV's started construction, a probe ran up my ramp, did a 180 in my SCV line and left. A few seconds later, the probe met up with some marines at my partners ramp, and after a quick curse in probese (Probe-ezz) blew up in a delightful explosion.
I was proceeding with my M&M build, pumping rines from two rax, getting gas, factory, lots of depot's, Teching to SV's when I realized something. I couldn't comsat. Because I had no station. Because my SCV building my academy, who was the one who built my first barracks, had become stuck inside that barracks. I demoted him, not even bothering to learn his name. Soon, I had assembled a force of 12 marines w/Stim and 1/1, 4 medics, 2 tanks w/Seige three dropships and two SV's.
Unfortunately, I hadn't been paying attention at all to my ally. I totally take blame for that, there was no communication at all. I dropped my forces on the southern tip of Terran Monkeys main, letting my tanks pound his DT and cannons while my marines supported. I became so busy micro'ing my attack and my base that I didn't notice Bobbafett2345's base was being overrun by Hydra's and Zealots and was totally destroyed. He managed to save his CC though, floating it to my base, and later to the expansion in front of my natural. My attack was somewhat successful, destroying most of Terran Monkey's Tech buildings, but it was eventually repelled by troops from Red.
Back home, I had managed to expand and keep up
production for the most part though, so I was proud of that. My ground troops were now 2/3, but I neglected an armory until now. My tech tree was flourishing, with Ghosts in the works. However, in my zeal to protect my Choke and my expansion, the back of my base was left wide open. Like Flies to honey, my enemies swarmed to that point and began
ruining my base. My now seven SV's would have liked to irradiate some Hydra's, but it seems the game had become laggy all of a sudden, so my spell-casting was less than...well, frankly it sucked. I kept targeting hyrdas that were dead by the time the game registered.
The cause of the lag was, of course, the sheer numder of my attackers. A great multitude of Overlords unloaded a
greater multitude of 3/3 Hydra's
while Zealots here and there provided support. The attack gradually became two-sided,
as a second group attacked my frontal battlements. They ripped through Bobafett2345 and his fledgling base in seconds, and proceeded to lay waste to my expansion. I took quite a few troops down, but their numbers were overwhelming. I retreated to my new island, but it was to no avail, probably because my island didn't exist yet. Sadly, they knew of my island endeavors
and landed troops to deal with it. Graciously, the offered my an allied victory, filling my head with stories of my wonderful (not) SV usage.
Lessons:
1. I need to scout! I didn't get a look at either enemy base until I attacked. Of course, I thought it would be pointless, since Terran have to build everything to win anyway....
2. Pay attention to your ally! Had I done this, maybe it would have stayed a 2 on 2.
3. Always check your construction, maybe if I had dropped earlier it would have done more damage.
4. When you're floating your last CC somewhere to expand, it might be a good idea to try for an island where you might get some peace and quiet, instead of in front of your ally's main defenses which are sure to see lots of action. I should have mentioned this to my ally, but you know what they say about hindsight...
5. Personally, I find terrans overwhelming, they have
so much they have to be doing. I need to practice more =) |
