-Flathead- had wondered as the game started if he was ever going to win a game against a Terran opponent on Styx. You see, he had always hated using lurker cheez vs. Terran, but couldn't ever find a better way to beat early, or mass, marines. Today, he tried mobility as an answer, and come up aces. As a steady swarm of upgraded zerglings smashed into the bunker+scivessel defenses, he reflected back on the game:

It had started when TSU (Terran Sixpack user)had changed his race at the last second from protoss to Terran. This prompted -Flathead- to curse, as he didn't want the Zerg vs. Terran game, only having 15-20 minutes to play. The battlefield was river styx and the idea was to draw Terran blood, early and often.

-Flathead- went with an early second hatch at his gimme, electing to forego early zerglings for double gas and a couple of sunkens at his main. His overlord being too slow, he sent a drone out to scout and found the Terran teching to an academy with one barracks built and one on the way. Too late, thought -Flathead-, noting that an early zergling rush would have killed the bunkerless Terran. He pumped zerglings and drones after two sunkens were built, and erected a third hatch at the same time as he built extractors on both gas vents. Tech for him, tech for me, thought -Flathead-.

The first thing -Flathead- spent gas on was one lair upgrade, then another, as he continued to pump more zerglings. As the first of 6 zerglings had come out, TSU attacked with 8 assorted units, 4 marines, 2 bats, and 2 medics. Alas, the medics were not numerous enough to take out the one sunken that was in range, only damaging it before the zerglings and sunken took the rag-tag group of mixed infantry down. The zerglings chased the 2 remaining medics away, then retreated back to base.

After the lair morphed, -Flathead- immediately started on a spire in the back of his base, along with a fourth hatch at his minerals only expansion. He quickly maxxed out his drone count at both main and expansion, and continued to build drones until he got the "You're under attack!!" message.

Quickly looking to his expansion where the message came from, he noticed a dropship had unloaded another death-squad of marines, firebats, and medics, and were tearing the expansion up. This is when -Flathead- thwacked his own forehead, realizing he had forgotten to build even one sunken for defense at his expansion. One sunken would have been enough to deter medimarines while mass zerglings got there, and as it stood it took 24 lost zerglings to take out the marines/firebats/medics that had landed. -Flathead- cursed and rebuilt his expansion hatch, which had been lost before the zerglings could respond. The drones that had managed to get away then went back to mining gas/minerals, as the first of lots of muties popped and the minerals only expansion came online.

Then, -Flathead- smacked his own forehead again, realizing that he had upgraded overlord transports and overlord SIGHT, instead of SPEED. D'OH!!!! -Flathead- started the speed research and headed to the Terran expansion spot with 12 muties and 5 overlords full of zerglings.

When the 12 muties got to the Terran expansion, they found a single turret, no bunkers, and an expansion going full steam. The muties lit into the turret, then began shredding the SCV's until none remained. They then fired at the refinery until 12 marines showed up, at which time the muties ran away over the water, towards the Terran main. The overlords were about 1/3 of the way to the now razed expansion, with 40 zerglings inside.

-Flathead-'s muties, meanwhile, were teaching the Terran a lesson in mobility. They flew behind the peon line, avoiding the forward missile turrets, and started shredding the peons there. IT was at this time that two irradiates went off, from two scivessels, and began whittling at the health of his mutie pack. -Flathead- quickly picked the muties out from the pack and attacked the scivessel with them, as scourge were qued up from all three hatches and put on patrol around the zerg bases.

More muties were coming, and the Terran economy was grinding to a halt. -Flathead- would run muties *constantly being reinforced by more muties* into the expansion, and alternate back to his main, kill a peon or two, and then run again as marines approached. Now and then, an irradiate would go off, spurring -Flathead- to que up two scourge to go after the scivessel. 4 scivessels were taken care of in this way, as the muties continued their dance.

Then, it happened again. TSU dropped 2 tanks, 4 marines, 8 firebats, and 4 medics on the gimme expansion, which was *once again* not protected by sunkens. DOH!!

-Flathead- cursed, and sent 12 zerglings and 12 muties after the threat. As the units converged on the Terran attackers, -Flathead- lost his expansion hatch yet again, followed by a successful triple irradiate on three different muties. Many zerglings died to this particular irradiate run before the muties could be seperated, which caused lots of damage to the zerg troops before the Terran infestation could be removed.

By now, the zerglings were cracklings and were landing on the (now empty) Terran gimme expansion. This Terran had perhaps gone after science vessels a little too quickly, -Flathead- mused, as 16 muties and 24 zerglings hit the front door, which was followed up by a back door attack of 40 zerglings and 6 muties. The swarm had won the day.

Lessons learned:

-Rush with early zerglings if he's teching. This could have been a 5 minute game but lasted 25.

-Muties and zerglings are a great combination, especially if you get his marines running around with a small pack of muties, while the main attack force goes and attacks somewhere else.

-Stop the Terran from Expanding if you're more mobile than him. If TSU has that expansion gas vent for too long, he builds 8 SV instead of 4 or 5, which would have been signifigantly more troublesome.

-Scourge ROCK against SV. Muties do not. 'Nuff said
