First off let say that I apologize for the lack of visual
aids in this report. I am still getting the hang of it and
Im not sure how to get the screen shots in the right format.
If you have any advice please feel welcome to advise me when commenting on the report. The tools at my disposal are
Windows Imaging and plain ol' MS Paint.
As well, this is my first crack at any type of HTML and Im not really sure if this is going to work or if my readers will be left with some sort of jibberish across the page.
Without further ado I present to you my report.
You know how sometimes you join a game and you just get this feeling that the person sitting across the map is something to be feared and that you had best put on your helmet and buckle down? This is the feeling that came over me when I joined the game of Current_Man. Somehow I knew that he would not tolerate any nonsense on my behalf and that I had better come out swinging when that bell rang or I would find myself trapped in my own defenses with entire legions of enemy troops camped outside my brittle fortress.
Current_Man had chosen Hunters as the battleground and had randomed. I hate it when they random. Either they are idiots or they are deadly adversaries who have dabbled in the voodoo of all of the races. I wondered which of the two Current_Man was.
I would soon find out.
I randomed as well and found myself at the helm of the Terran. Top left is where I began and I quickly scooped up my SCVs and slung them against the mineral patches, cloning as I went. Diligently my boys went to work, slicing the rock with their fusion cutters and bringing the precious minerals back to the Command Center where it could be processed.
I began construction of the first depot a bit later than usual, erecting it at supply nine instead of eight. This was not Lost Temple and so there would be no ramp choke this time. Hunters demands that you face your opponent toe to toe and face to face. No funny stuff, just war.
At ten supply my first barracks went down. I built it close to the depot, compacting my base as much as possible, hopefully making it easier to defend in case the situation turned grim. I had a plan already for the layout of my base. The depots would form a box around my SCVs and all military producing buildings would be built out beyond the box. Nothing original but it was effective.
Soon after beginning my first barracks I sent an SCV to scout out Current_Man and learn of his race, location and strategy. Clockwise I went, checking every starting location along the way, hoping for a peek into the mind of my opponent.
As I continued construction of my base, building a second barracks and then a second depot and then a refinery, something on my minimap caught my attention. My scouting SCV had passed by something. I quickly tapped "0" "0", (the hotkey of my scout), just in time to see a shiny probe zip by me on its own miniature sorty to gather information about me and my secret operations. I didnt follow, let it come. A marine was close to emerging from the barracks and he would be sufficient to deal with the knee-high intruder.
So my opponent was the almighty Protoss. The Protoss have alot of anti-terran units at their disposal and I didnt want to be at the wrong end of any of them.
As the probe slid by my lone marine and into my base my own scout was discovering the location of Current_Man in the middle right location. Around the two defending zealots he went, a zig here, a little zag there and he was in, gathering vital intelligence that would serve me. Down he went, past the dual gateways, past the pair of pylons and all the way to the Nexus where many identical probes harvested the minerals that would soon become Protoss soldiers with mayhem on their telepathic minds.
The zealots had been chasing my scout all the way and he would have to pull off some pretty good moves if he wanted to escape from behind enemy lines alive. He looped around a couple of times before darting back toward the only way out of this hole. Taking a few blows from the zealots, he whipped back up towards the gateways, around the pylons and onward in the general direction of safety. All that stood between my brave scout and the open road were two gateways now, the zealots long being in the wake of his turbines. Safety was moments away.
But just as the scout was weaving inbetween his last obstacle two more viscous zealots emerged from the gateways, blocking his escape and brandishing their lightning quick blades eagerly and as the lone SCV came within striking range the zealots tore into him with a fury that foreshadowed the battle ahead of me.
Current_Man had drawn first blood.
But an eye for an eye, right? The enemies probe had zipped right past the marine I had stationed at my choke at the exact time that my SCV had breached the defenses of my adversary and I wanted to make sure that this probe did not make it home. The probe had taken a good look around, spotting the academy and the refinery that I had been working on. Just as the academy finished the SCV that had been building it gave chase to the metallic spy and another that had emerged from the Command Center joined in. They chased the probe out towards the choke, away from the buildings and into the gauss rifle fire of my first two marines.
Here I will assess the situation. From my standpoint Current_Man was going for infantry, he wasnt particularly quick on getting gas and he had obviously been producing zealots non stop. I had seen two gateways, a forge and a newly built assimilator. No cannons, no cybernetics core. I had an academy and a comsat and I had began construction of a third barracks when I saw what Current_Man was up to. In my opinion, it was time to rush.
I began upgrading stimpack and starting kicking firebats out of my barracks. I also started an engineering bay so it would be there in case I needed it. A few firebats to compliment my marines, a few medics and I was off.
I had roughly twelve marines, six firebats and four medics when my army began marching. I sent a point man to serve as a scout and to spring any ambushes my opponent might put up.
All was looking good. No ambushes, stim had finished upgrading and I began the marine range upgrade. I was almost there, moving onto the narrow strip of land that paved the way toward his natural expansion. As the infantry marched on I sent an SCV to the 12:00 start to expand behind my attack.
But things soon went awry when the shimmer of stealthy beings came into the sight range of my point man. Two were their number and they proceeded to severe the marines head from his shoulders. Quickly I stopped my troops and grouped them together in anticipation of the dark templar that were bearing down on my men. My comsat had been hotkeyed to the number "0" and I readied it for the upcoming clash. It had just enough juice for two scans. I had better make this count.
Then they were upon us, ungodly speed drove them toward us and into our ranks, warp blades glistening with the fresh blood of my point man. I scanned and stimmed and my men opened fire upon the inhuman creatures, cutting through the shields that granted them extra life and into the very flesh of the beasts. The pair was dispatched quickly and we were left standing. My comsat scan disappeared.
During the invasion I had been building a second Command Center at the 12:00 and when it was finished I added a comsat station and assigned it to hotkey number "9".
We readied ourselves for another round of fighting. Empty clips dropped to the ground at our feet and new ammunition replaced them. A second wave of dark assassins came for us and again I flashed the area with a comsat and again the marines sprayed the attackers with large, uncomfortable metal spikes.
Up in unnatural smoke the templar went, out of this realm and out of our way. We charged toward the protoss base, past the natural expansion there and into the choke of the enemy where we encountered a small number of zealots and some dragoons. I stimmed and engaged the defenders. The marines armor was alight with the reflections of their gauss rifle fire and the firebats flame throwers were working hard to bring down the zealots that came forward to meet us.
Then out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of a blueish, choppy figure who came slowly into view, just out of range of my men. A bright flash alit atop his alien brow and down came the wrath of Aiur, engulfing my marines with mind-tearing energy that quickly brought them to their knees and then to the ground where they would slowly dissolve, never to fight again.
At my choke I began a turret amidst the infantry that had gathered there while my first assault went to the enemy. I began construction of a tank at my factory and siege mode simultaneously. My 12:00 expansion was growing with SCVs by the minute and I began erecting two more factories there. At my main I began to build turrets spread around my base as well as a starport and an armoury. I also began the armor upgrade for my infantry.
As the turret at my choke finished another dark templar tested the waters. Quickly he was reduced to vapor. No counter attack ensued.
Templar. Infantry isnt very effective against a unit that has the ability to dispatch them as quickly as the templar can dispatch them. I would need machinery. And in order to have machinery I would need factories. So thats what I built, factories. Factories began to sprout like weeds all over both of my base. Vultures rolled out of them, tanks rumbled the ground beneath us as they emerged, goliaths lumbered down the ramps while every possible upgrade that a machine shop can make was being researched.
Dark templar. In order to kill them I would need to see them. A science facility followed my starport and the armouries hummed as they worked to upgrade the weapons and armor of my growing mechanized army. I my main and my expansion in full swing and it gave the power to keep all factories busy churning out the war machines.
I began to mine the entrance to my expansion and as soon as my third mine had submerged beneath the soil another dark templar tried to squeeze in. The mines thwarted the attempt and I began building turrets around my expansion.
I then sent a lone vulture to scout the rest of the map. A protoss with an expansion is a dangerous thing. To all the starting points he went, hoping to discover a new Nexus ripe for the taking.
I was following the progress of the vulture scout when an alarm went off, "Your forces are under attack". I quickly checked the minimap and saw that my expansion was under attack and flashing red. I quickly tapped the spacebar and I was instantly teleported to the source of the trouble. A lone templar. He had been delivered via a shuttle right next to the workers at my expansion. Two storms he unleashed upon the oblivious SCVs before I was able to grab them and attack the templar. Back into the shuttle he went and the shuttle disappeared back into the shadows.
Needless to say I built an additional turret there and sat a sieged tank in the middle of my workers.
While my attention had been diverted from the vulture scout it had been killed, destroyed by a single cannon guarding a Nexus in the bottom right corner of the map.
My mechanized forces had been steadily swelling and at this point I had about eight marines, two vultures, four tanks and a science vessel at my main with some additional units at my expansion.
I took the forces from my main and headed for the bottom right. I met with some small resistance in the center of the map but was able to root it and continue on my way. Only a few token zealots that he had there warning of any troop movement by me.
But I knew that I would beat him to the expansion, I was already too far along for him to catch me before I got there. We came within striking distance of the single cannon there and my tanks sieged. the cannon quickly became rubble and my marines were free to move in. The expansion attempt was denied.
All the pylons around the Nexus were destroyed now and the Nexus was going next. The marines thumped the huge structure relentlessly as the tanks lobbed shells from a good distance behind the infantry. Then came the garrison. About eight leg enhanced zealots came bearing down on my tanks, closing fast and quickly ducking under the range of the machines. The vultures tried to thump them off but their attempts were futile in the face of such a quick foe. The vultures went next and as the marines desperately tried to finish off the Nexus the zealots charged in for the kill. But I had brought along a science vessel as well to compliment my forces and two of the eight marines found themselves suddenly surrounded by a heavy forcefield, providing enough time to kill the footman of Auir and then go back to their task of destroying the Nexus.
I expanded once again to the 9:00. My forces had been growing while the attack on my enemy had been going on. I knew he had to be hurting for resources and I scanned his main. Alot of gateways. I scanned again. Two robotics facilities, an observatory and a robotics support bay. I scanned one last time. There were his troops, dark templar, dragoons, zealots, high templar and a few token dark templar. I mustered my forces, tanks, marines, goliaths, vultures and sent them to the middle. I sent one lone science vessel in behind his base.
When I had scanned I noticed that his templar were behind his main lines, ready to storm and my science vessel swept in from behind, irradiating one of the templar and chasing another before being shot down by dragoon fire.
But it didnt matter. Even now my tanks were sieging outside his main and the vultures were planting mines. A single science vessel came in to spot the dark templar and the final battle was at hand.
Current_Man came out swinging, he rushed forward with the blades of his warriors flailing and the blasts from his dragoons cutting wedges into my infantry. Storms cracked the sky and blood spilled and flowed. The earth beneath us shook as the powerful cannons of the tanks tore into the protoss assault and the marines rifles blazed and peppered every alien being that came within range. A few defensive matrixes were cast to tip the balance in my favor and when the smoke cleared many protoss warriors lay broken on the ground at our feet while many terran soldiers stood tall and alive.
It was over and Current_Man knew it. He could do nothing but concede the game to me and I greatfully accepted it. Im never comfortable facing a protoss opponent with terran and this time was no different. In my opinion this game was won because of the fact that I expanded before my opponent. I am happy to have made this game a victory.
This concludes this battlereport.
