The game starts off with Mage
and Mac sending their drones to the minerals.
However Mage has some micro problems and all
his drones don't go to different patches. Soon after the overlords are
sent to the adjacent starting points to find the other player.
Mage
goes with an early expansion and at that point Mac
still hasn't placed his second hatchery. By the time Mac
builds his second hatch, Mage has already
built his third hatchery right next to his expansion.
The third hatchery placed by Mage
is an attempt to keep his main base safe. This way he can block his ramp
more effectively so units cannot run by.
Spawning pools are morphed at the
same time and around this time Mac begins
his extractor. Soon after his extractor is complete, Mac
adds another hatchery, making his total three, all in his main.
Once Mac
recieves enough gas he morphs one of his hatcheries into a Lair. Realize
that when Mac is morphing his lair, Mage
hasn't even touched his vespene geyser.
Once Mac finishes the lair, he immediately
beings a spire. Shortly after, Mage starts morphing an extractor at each
of his bases. When they extractors are complete, they stay idle for at
least one minute before Mage makes use of them.
Realizing his faults and that Mac's
mutas will be coming very soon, Mage starts an evolution chamber and two
creep colonies at both his natural expansion and main base. Also Mage sets
up a hydralisk den for mobile anti-air. Once Mac's spire is completed he
sets up camp right outside of Mage's ramp.
Here you can see ColdBladed's comment
about Mage's buildng placement.
Here
you can see how Mage's and Mac's forces compare. Right now Mac could have
charged in and obliterated Mage. But due to Mage's well placed units on
the frontline, Mac was not able to gain any knowledge of the quantity of
Mage's troops. Each side keeps adding more and more units until they decide
to attack.
It just so happens that both sides
start moving at the same time.
Mac is caught extremely off gaurd
though. He didn't expect Mage to attack at the same time.
Mac's lings attack alone in the first
shot while his mutas are trying to move to a better attacking position.
In the second shot the mutas were directed wrong and fly right over the
large pack of hydras. In the third shot you can see the remains of both
armies. Mage is victorious in the first battle. Prior to this skirmish,
Mac uses some of his time to make an expansion. Which finishes just as
Mage wins the battle

Without even sending a scout
zergling to make sure his attack would work, Mage follows up with a counter-attack.
Mac frantically tries to save his expansion by immediately slapping down
some sunken colonies, but it is no use.

Here we see Mage's hydras tear down
Mac's expansion. Part of Mage's success comes from the armor upgrade. An
armor upgrade is extremely effective because it protects against three
damage from mutalisk fire.
as
In
a last ditch effort Mac tries to throwing up some sunkens on his ramp and
using a hydra/ling combo to keep the enemy at bay, but reinforcements are
on the way and they prove to much for Mac. Mage wins the game.
