I thought becuase I am bored and can not play Starcraft anymore til I get my computer fixed that I would write a BR of this game I had a while back, well bout 2 months back. I still remember it like it was yesterday because it enlightened a whole new bunch of strats to me.
Channel NZL-1 (new zealand) is where I usually hang, its quite a good channel with about a 50/50 mix of no-hopers (bgh, $$$ players) and capable players. Usually there is an adequate number of capable players to get a good game and if there is not then its a short hop to AUS-1 or NH (but the lag becomes an issue then)
I don't actually remember who it was I played but the game was 1v1 temple (ye gads!) with some obs (Orinn and someone else). Dammit I can't think of the name of the person I played.
Well anyway onto the game, I randomed protoss at 6 and I knew he had picked protoss so I started my 8 pylon gateway then gas pylon gateway build, going for early tech reavers, or mass goons. Due to some unlucky scouting ie last place to look is where he was, I found him at 9. He had allready taken his nat and had cannons and a gateway up there. the probe reported that he had them up on the hill by the entrance meaning a direct ground assualt would hurt me. I reasoned that he would'nt have that much tech due to the powering he was doing. I knew soon he could have a big army.
I had the normal cannon at ramp with some zealots and then some goons behind that. These soldiers where not accomlishing very much so I thought I would go do some gosu goon hit and run micro on his natural, if all he had was zealots and cannons. Meanwhile at the batcave (my main) the robotics was up and shuttle was coming.
when i got to the door way to his nat i got my 4 goons and sent them in slowly to focus fire on something. But he had maybe 6 zealots + 6 goons comapred to my 4 z's 4 goons force. i ran like then wind and luckily he did not follow.
I knew he had more than me and a skirmish on open ground would cost me, I would be ok if he tried to striaght out attack my main, as I could hug my sheild battery for moral support in the time of need. i was accumalting minerals from my nat as all i was making was goons, and I knew it would be time to exp soon, i had neglected to scout so i knew at the least that he had main + nat and maybe more.
Then the lightbulb lit up. i hoped he would not hav his main that well defended, I moved my shuttle to the edge of his base (over the small gap between our bases) and sure enough he had nothing there. (I know that players like _Taipan from nzl-1, like to put pylons supply etc on the edge of there bases to look out for drops etc), well this guy did'nt. Hmm a gateway at his nat, probably 2 there now so his troops will be at his nat.. I moved my standing army to the little space in between mine and his base and proceeded to shuttle the 6 goons and 4 zealots into his main.
Attack.. I sent the zealots in to the peon line on attack move and micro'd the goons. He had some pylons and his cyber + forge at his main, so his gateways and all his troops must have been at his nat, because I did'nt see any. He ran his probes to his nat and i proceded to destroy his cyber. Now his troops took a while to come and they came one at a time and very slowly, so my goon micro was nailing them. hmmm why was this i wondered...
Well after a while he got a sizable force in there so i decided just to try and take down his nexus while I exp to my nat and and loaded a shuttle with 2 probes and 1 goon.
I did'nt quite get his nexus down but the damage had been done.
I fortified my nat with some cannons and a sheild battery, dropped one probe off at the lower right island and ordered a nexus from nexiforless.com, as well as the comlimentary cannons and pylons to support it.
All this money exp meant I could only pump goons from 2 gateways when really I wanted about 4-5, another forge was layed to get upgardes and so was a robotics support and an observaoty.
Now the naughty little probe and dragoon where dropped off at the enemies nat cliff and cannons + a sheild battery where set up. the shuttle then scouted the rest of the map. meanwhile at the batcave some probes where maynarded to the natural by foot while others took econemy class shuttle to their island resort, little did they know that the club auir resort they had been promised was actually a slave labour camp.
soon the ecomomy was pumpin with the shuttles ready and the reavers making their stpuid noises. Hmm rather passive was the enemy. 3 more gateways went down about the same time the cannons on the hill started firing away at the helpless enemy probes. the dragoon excitind at all of this began to pace back and forth on the cliff face watching for any enemy shuttle that would try and put and end to this probe slaughter.
Just as an entire legion of auirs finest 1/1/1 goons where about to be sent in to mop up..
"GG"
"I exp to early.. its to risky"
Orinn (obs) "yah, but you would have won had Sta (me) not done anything"
Sta "what was up with your defence at your main when i dropped?"
"oh, well my probes got blocked up my ramp and I couldn't get my troops in.. grr"
Sta "lol"
blah blah blah.. etc...
Well anyways this is how this battle ended. this game was about 2 months ago so i can't remember ecrything exactly, and I did'nt take screens, and I dunno how to use photoshop that well so thats why it sucks.
I expanded upon the "drop the troops behind the enemy lines" gimmick. It has won me afew games and works v terran wallins quite well. A lone zealot to watch for when the rax floats up and the troops pile out signals the time to drop the army in...
The world (and NZL-1) will be safe for a while until my computer is fixed but until then... |
