I decided to have a little fun on ladder so I said, well what the hell, mass goliaths ‘r’ us. I search through the ladder games and since I’m not finding a thing, I make my own, 1025++ since I already used this account and start on my first game.

I am met by GrassMan~DoA and we exchange greetings and the countdown starts. We both random and I ended up with terran at 3:00 and decided “Hell, why don’t I write a series on massing goliaths.” I started with my usual build start. 9 depot, 11 rax, 12 refinery, 16 depot. Only SCVs and Goliaths, if this gets me killed, oh well ^-^.

I sent a scouting SCV out at 7 so I could discover my randoming opponent’s race. GrassMan was at the 9:00 position with zerg. By the time I got there GrassMan had sent a drone over to his nat and started a hatchery, I continued on my way into his base to do some drone harassment with my gosu micro (yeah right). The SCV finally left his base when it was down to 10 life. After my scout returned I start my armory.

Soon after I started a 3rd factory because I calculated the cost of goliaths to being 2-factory tank pump so I thought this would work out. My armory completed and I began 2 goliaths with my 3rd factory being nearly done.

I started making supply depots with 1 SCV after my 3rd factory finished and started pumping goliaths as fast as I could. GrassMan had an overlord spying on my choke so I sent my first 2 goliaths to kill it. During this great battle I started my level 1 vehicle weapons upgrade.

Getting tired of the silence I sent an SCV to scout his base to see if now would be a good time to attack. Only finding a couple lings and figuring GrassMan was teching to mutas I sent 10 goliaths to hit mineral only. Soon there would be zergies to step on.

GrassMan had about 8 zerglings and 8-10 mutas, I didn’t really have time to count. I danced my goliaths and did my best to target the zerglings with 2 of my goliaths, which seemed to work pretty well. Once the zerglings were gone, I had been forced back to his natural only and began focus firing on his mutas. 5 Goliaths remained.

GrassMan had tried to start a hatchery during the battle but do to poor placement (right in front of my goliaths?) I demolished it in no time. GrassMan then hit my goliaths with 6 zerglings and 2 mutas causing me to have to dance them a little because they tend to attack the mutas, as I’m sure most of you know. GrassMan kept up his production of zerglings and mutas when he could so I moved my 3 remaining goliaths back a bit.

I sent 6 re-enforcing goliaths to keep the pressure on him and they were half way there. They met my retreating goliaths just outside of his mineral only and I turned around the 3 goliaths and fought back. After disposing of his small force my goliaths pressed on into his nat hoping to do some serious damage, but GrassMan would have none of it. GrassMan had created a creep colony, which I focus fired upon until it blew up into a blood mess. GrassMan then rammed a control group of speedlings and half a control group of mutas into my goliaths. I began dancing them furiously as I had already lost 2 but my goliaths continued exploding. During the battle I had sent 3 more goliaths which got to the mineral only just in time and sent another 3 goliaths that were fresh from the factories.

I still microd my goliaths but I only had 3 remaining with 3 more on the way but his force was also reduced to about 3 lings and 3 mutas. I gained an advantage in the battle when my 3 goliaths met the 2 remaining ones and kill the lings and 1 muta before he retreated. GrassMan had began morphing a sunken colony but only had 1 ling and 1 muta, obviously more units morphing, so I just focus-fired on the sunken as it was the only current threat. I stopped shooting at it when it got below 100 as it would explode when it morphed anyway.

GrassMan then hit my goliaths with 6 zerglings and 4 mutas, the goliaths already having 2 heavily damaged, weren’t in the greatest shape. The 2 damaged ones died quickly while I microd the other 3 in hopes of them doing well. GrassMan noticed that I usually had goliaths on the way that would meet my goliaths right outside his mineral only and retreated, though, I didn’t have any on the way, lucky me. I moved the 3 to his mineral only and sent 6 others from my main. 3 more goliaths popped out seconds later so I sent them too.

GrassMan encountered 6 of my goliaths in his mineral only because 3 of them got stuck in terrain. I killed most of the zerglings as they managed to get ahead of the mutas. GrassMan retreated his mutas knowing that goliaths > mutas.
3 more goliaths arrived and I sent them into his nat, GrassMan had made 2 sunkens during our recent skirmishes but one only had about 50 life so I made 2 goliaths focus fire on that while my other 7 hit the other. GrassMan hit my goliaths with about 8 mutas and a couple lings right after the 2nd sunken colony exploded. Seeing as my goliaths were already damaged, I decided to retreat them. During this I expanded to my natural.

My goliaths met 2 others that were in the center and I had 6 more on the way, I hoped I wouldn’t lose this battle or I’d lose my strong foothold. With some micro I managed to kill the lings before they could do any damage and began focus firing on his mutas when they retreated. GrassMan turned them around when he sent in 4 zerglings, killing 2 of my 4 goliaths. I retreated the remaining 2 until the 6 that were on their way arrived and then began another dance class. I had targeted lings with 3 of my goliaths, effectively killing the majority of the 10 he now had and then began dancing like mad hoping he wouldn’t finish off my goliaths. His lings fell and he realized that his 3 or 4 remaining mutas weren’t any match for my goliaths and retreated.

My 6 goliaths ran into his expo and I sent 6 more goliaths from my main. GrassMan was hatching a decent number of units but I had one mission in this run, kill his expo hatchery. I destroyed his hatchery just seconds before he hatched some units and hit my goliaths with them. 3 of the goliaths I had sent arrived and 6 goliaths faced 10 lings and 4 mutas. With some fancy michael jackson moves and some focus fire, my goliaths were triumphant.

Being out expanded and out produced he…disconnected, the bastard! Just kidding, he left! ^-^

The scored were very close at the end with only a 3000 point gap in my favour. The game lasted 16:01 and was almost a constant battle for about 8 mins. #2 of this series will be out as soon as I play the game ^-^.

This has been a Cer1dan production.

I'd make some pictures for this but I dont have the time right now
